| Can't find a thread on this in the forum I think it should be in, so here we are. Axiom Verge on Wii U and XBone before too long! I remember Jas tweeting about it: how is it? Its reputation makes it an instabuy for me. |

| It's a pretty neat looking game - very Metroid! Jas sung its praises, so it's one I need to check out soon. |

| Aye, I enjoyed this game a lot and once I clear a bit of a backlog I'm going to return to it for a 100% run. |

| Dated - and I'm not just talking about the graphics (er, arf arf?). September 1st is the date and I will be there with bells on. Varia bells. |

| Varia bells for its eShop distribution? I've heard positive things about this (albeit from madpeople who liked Cave Story), I have nothing else on my Wii U right now, and I like Metroidvanias. Sign me up! |

| If I was the AV guys, I would sort want out the same time as when people are going to be down on MP:FF and want proper a Metroidvania experience they'll be able to download AV.
Of course they are different systems but I would say most Wii U owners have a 3DS and then how many of those Wii U owners only have a Nintendo system as AV is already on PS4, VITA, PC, Mac, Linux that the audience is going to be small to do something like that but hey I know people who have a 3DS & PS4, who now might want to buy AV after seeing and hearing about a new Metroid. |

| I think it is a coincidence myself, Thomas Happ (the guy who made it) has had the project in the works for some time & it only makes sense that he now wants it on as many platforms as possible not to mention the certification process can take a long long time. (or perhaps even longer when you are one man that does everything for the game) |

| Then Balla says it's to retro I've seen another review on a Nintendo Fansite and they gave it a 7 with one of the negatives being backtracking, that's like saying FIFA has to many goalkeepers and I can't score goals.

| Yeah, a bit of a baffling criticism, that - part of the fun of a Metroidvania is backtracking to previous areas and being able to open up previously inaccessible paths. |

| Aye, the game even has a handy marker system where you can place an icon in an area you know you want to return to later. - mas wrote:

| I know it was a joke but I thought he said similar back in the day about Shovel Knight.
I'd thought you may have even platinumed this on PS4, Jas as such a Jas game. |

| Nah I've only done the one play through, there's a fair few trophies connected to getting 100% & even a couple of speedrun ones as well. |

| This feels like good stuff thus far. I like the dialogue bits, they break up what would otherwise be a pretty standard Metroid-like experience - but it's been so long since I played one of those. I like how he moves too, less floaty than Samus, which is good. Just got the drill. |

I enjoyed that part of it also as it makes the world that little bit more interesting. (side note: Yass! The term "Metroid-like" is taking over & there's nothing mas can do about it. ) |

| Although the heading of the relevant Wikipedia article is 'Metroidvania', 'Metroid-like' links to it. Other equivalent terms it lists include 'Castletroid' ( ), 'Igavania', 'Metroid-style' and 'Metroid-like'. I'm sure I've said this before but not all Castlevanias are Metroid-like; a greater proportion of Metroid games are Metroid-like (and were Metroid-like first). *removes reading glasses*On Axiom Verge: I said to myself that I'd start Axy when I'd beaten Azzy (Asdivine Hearts); as that's done, I'll be on it soon.

| I'd say pre-1997, you'd be correct, but the vast majority of Castlevania games since Symphony of the Night have been Metroidvanias in nature to the extent where any Metroidvania that launches will draw comparison to either a Metroid or a Castlevania game.
On topic, I've got Axiom Verge to play through on PS4 - I might jump on once I'm finished with my Ace Attorney double bill. |

| Well it should be called Metroidvania as the best one in the genre is a Castlevania game.
Metroid-like is a real pet-peeve of mine and does really bug me as well as to me that's not the genre, yeah pre-1997 like Jay said maybe but things evolve that Demon's Souls would have been called a Action-RPG more then likely but now people when talking about game like that it's Souls-like.
But hey at least I can call Monster Hunter, MonHan. |

| Well, that's me about twenty minutes in. It feels really good at the moment - a Metroid 1 vibe with some modern touches. I have to warn y'all that I'm playing it in French. Parce que je peux. |
