Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Boo(Ster Course Pass) This Man)

There's not really a specific day so to speak, but if we do end up karting it's usually in the evening around and after 7ish.

Tends to be one of us fancies it, throws out a tweet and other people join in.

Like last night, when I was able to join for a bit because my wonderful wife got it for me for my birthday. For some reason I got much more into it than I ever did with MK8. Please explain.

I've been in the same boat, I've no idea what is different but it just feels so much better.

It's the 4K 1080p that does it. Those were some fun races, I even got Jay a bit mad with me taking first place so much.

I think the new console scenario gets more of us online at shorter notice, as well. As does the greater ease of use of the Switch compared to Wii U, and the fact some of us can go handheld if we're not able to commandeer a TV.

On the whole issue of it looking better, I think it's interesting to note that David Turner of the Computer Game Show, who apparently played it every day with his young son right up until the Switch launch, noticed the graphics much less than people who'd had a little break.

I definitely was wowed by Deluxe's visuals, though.

I think they're both beautiful, and both wonderful. But because of the additions, and the fact that it's a fricking handheld, MK8D seems even more beautifuller and wonderfuller.

That said, I noticed that somebody else (Jas?) had my problem with the A button and it knackering your thumbs. Auto-accelerate really is a godsend for that (thanks Muss).

Yeah, if I find myself playing it in handheld mode I'll use auto-accelerate.

I'd feel like a noob for switching on auto-accelerate, but it does make sense really, given that I never let go of the button ever! Mind you I definitely came third in Super James Kart though, so perhaps I am a noob!

I feel like the whole 'let's play Moo Moo fifty times' is a meme that actually gets in the way of fun.  One of MK8D's strengths is the number of brilliant tracks it has, 48 with maybe 4 duffers (I can think of two and am rounding up).  Playing any one track over and over, for the sake of #bantz or anything else, is taking a big fat dump (a cow pat if you like) on one of the things that makes the game so great: its variety in excellent track design.  

The streamer may well be a bit of a twonk (and indeed sounding like one for the few minutes I listened to), but I'd be annoyed too if I were him.

Tbh I think we are good at not kicking the arse out of it in fact I don't remember it coming up much at all the last time we played, plus even the top tier tracks can become boring/annoying to play multiple times in a row.

Anyhow I think we are more likely to pick a track Andy dislikes these days anyway.

That is totally fine and I agree with it wholeheartedly.

I think it's grand for our standard tournaments where you get a selection of tracks to choose from - we're not picking it every time after all when we're playing online, and messing with others is always funny in regards to the mode where you pick from every track. Moo Moo Meadows for life.

It's here where I'd disagree.  I just don't like messing with people I don't know. It might mean they're not having much fun.

I, as usual like a wuss, am caught in two minds about this. I loves me Moo Moo Meadows, and I love that we've got "our track" (in fact, I'm-a-check all your time trials later). I also agree that trolling people online isn't nice. However, I'd also say that it's Mario Kart - it's very difficult to be unreasonable, and to not see the funny side, and if 1/12 people always picks Moo Moo Meadows, you have no-one to blame but the Gods of Random Numbers.

It would be different if all of us joined his game and deliberately kept picking MMM as a calculated wind-up, but what Smurf did was just lucky and funny.

There is the luck point, I'll give you that. 'Funny' less so, unless he's a git in the first place, and threw an absolute wobbly as a result. But given that he's a professional YouTuber...

It was all for the memes rather than trying to irritate, when I play MK8 I just naturally gravitate towards Moo Moo Meadows so it's always gonna be my first pick. It's all down to luck of course too although it was funny to see someone else joined in with me.

That being said I cooled off on it after the reset for a bit and when it came up later on after I picked it he was cool with it, it's all in good humour.

I might have said this before, but... one suggestion for improvement I'd have, even for the great MK8D:

Team mode. Having 2 teams of 6 is fine(-ish) if you're playing with 6 people. However, it makes races a bit of a mess, as you have to speed-read the colour of the racer names, and avoid contact/weapons with half of the pack. I'd rather the teams were F1-style 6 teams of 2.
