| Fair fucks to Athrun there, that's an absolute stoater of a tagline. I didn't get it at first, but it eventually clicked, and I feel like a proper fanny for not thinking of it myself. |

| Uh.........what just happened? Needless to say, I'm immensely honoured that people think I contribute in some positive way. Thank you very much. I personally don't think I deserve it - Muss and Drunka put actual effort and organisation into their jokes, and, even though this year's been shite, I think every one of the regular folk here has made me laugh on several occasions. I also fear my dad jokes are instead of actual topical conversation. |

I was only planning to do it for Forumite of the Year, to be honest. I can include it for the votes moving forward (except for Post and Topic of the Year, because fuuuuuck that!) and I can retroactively reveal that myself, Muss and gjones received some love for Contributor of the Year. You're not getting Tagline of the Year because once again, fuuuuck that. In any case... fancy another set of results? The SSX Tricky Award for Board of the Year (11 votes)AKA The General Gaming Award, right? Well, maybe things won't be as clear cut this year. We've seen bustling activity elsewhere on the forum as well as brand new board to herald the arrival of Nintendo's latest console. Let's see how it all went down. - Third Place:
Nontendo ( one vote) “Good chats this year.”
- Second Place:
Retro ( two votes) “it's difficult to look beyond the traditional winner of this one, with its massive gaggle of varied threads, both short-term and ongoing. You know the one I mean. Wink That said, my vote is going to the Retro forum. It experienced a good upturn in fortunes last year and I hope it'll go from strength to strength as time goes by. Not least because, as time goes by, more consoles become retro. Twisted Evil” “I’ve been frequenting the Retro board throughout 2016 and it’s where I click first. Interesting hearing everybody’s gaming backgrounds.”
- WINRAR.EXE:
=Switch – ( four votes) “Early days yet, but it's prompted as much fresh discussion as any other board in its short lifespan. If it doesn't win this year, I reckon it'll be a lock for next time around.” “GG has won for three years in a row, so I'm hoping for a different winner this time. Nintendo's dubious games release strategy meant that more fun was had looking to the future than discussing the present - but what a bright shining future they laid out for us! And the discussion in here reflected that, I feel. More animated and fun than almost anywhere else on t'forum.” “Has to be the Nintendo Switch board for me. Nothing in life is as exciting as the run-up to a new Nintendo console, and chatting to the forum about every game, sneak peek, rumour and theory is a big part of that. Hopefully this board will only get more alive and exciting as the Switch and its games actually launch.” “Sneaky this - I'm gonna say the Switch board (LOL Switchboard), even though it's a newbie. Immediately there's excitement and speculation over the new console, even before 2017's presentation.” General Gaming ( four votes) “It's always General Gaming.” “Full of ideas, discussion, hopes and fears. A fusion of Starbucks and Woolworths that's somehow not crap.” “This is where all the fun forum games or our creativity shines with things like who's that pokemon & gaming poetry.” “This board is always the most consistently alive and active out of the others, between the what game did you finish thread and the release schedule threads and even the who's that pokémon thread there's something for everyone to get their metaphorical (or literal) teeth into.”
- I say!:
Up until the final two ballots, Switch had a lead. All was right in the world... and then, everything changed. The view never changes...

| Fuck off GG. I asked for Jay to remove it from the ballot this time around, and while I respect his reasons for not doing so, I still think that would have been the optimal decision. It gets boring when the champion wins all the time: outside their hardcore fans, nobody liked the dominant Australian cricket team of the late 90s-early 00s, and nobody cheered when Sampras won yet another Grand Slam. At least this time it had a serious challenger. - JayMoyles wrote:

To be honest I just want to see the comments. It's part of what GNamer's all about: #bantz, and 'words everywhere'. Our voting comments are some of the funniest anywhere, and I like seeing them all shared so that we can appreciate the effort of their submitters. (I'll bet that I'm the only person who submitted comments for Tagline though. Also I think you rolled 'em out for Contributor already, didn't you?) |

I can't deny that it'll get exciting next year, unless GG wins again - in which case, in the Switch's launch year when BotW and SMO are out, GG really does need excising from the ballot. |

| Funny you should say that, Drunka... - Balla's tagline votes:
1. YOU'VE BEEN CASTLED - More of this sort of thing! 2. OBJECTION! Everything you just said was bollocks, Mr Trump. - If only The Judge had been in charge of the electoral results rather than the common people. This is why the jury system is a bad idea, Japanifornia had it right all along. 3. Darksiders II Wii U ran like it was ported by The Chuckle Brothers. - Jimbob at his finest. Tickles my nostalgia gland as well.

| It does get boring having it win every year, but I honestly think the Switch board has been a more exciting place to post. It's only been about for a couple of months, and the fact it's ended up garnering a joint first in such a short space of time is a real credit. But in any case... to make up for no results yesterday, how about another double whammy? The Premier Inn Award for GNamer Forum Event of the Year (ten votes)It's been a good year for the big little forum, especially considering we've seen a plethora of podcast, an assortment of Admintendos and capped it off with a meet-up and a Secret Santa. That's not to mention the various in-game meet-ups we've seen, be they in Overwatch, Splatoon or Mario Kart 8. Let's see which were your favourites. - Third Place:
=Overwatch Free Weekend ( one vote) “I'm assuming the meet-up will win this, but I missed it so limited options... Kinda cheating but I'm gonna go with the Overwatch Free Weekend, got to try it out with a few of you bastards and it sold me on the game & left us with a cool group of dudes (and some guy called JayMoyles)” =GOTY 2016 GNamer Podcast ( one vote) "That GOTY podcast was a belter, guys. Belter." =October-December 2016 Quarterly Review: Admintendo XVI - We're Running Out of Subtitles ( one vote) “I’ve not been involved in any of these but I’ll vote for the most recent Admintendo. It’s nice to see lengthy discussions with genuinely funny comments.”
- Second Place:
X-Treme X-Mas X-Change 2K16 ( two votes) “Good will and cheer to and from all, though next year I hope the meetup will take this biscuit, assuming I can attend.”
- Overlord of all Events:
GNamer Meet-up in Summertime ( five votes) “It's got to be the meet-up for me – meeting some of you was a real treat, especially considering I count a lot of you as good friends. Just... let me know if it's only going to be me and Drunka getting involved with drinking Mario Kart next time round.” “Couldn't really be anything else, could it? A fun day ou NEIGHt with fun chaps and some fun drinks (Super Soldier sticks in the mind). Fun!” “Meeting you guys for real was a genuine treat. I’ve said before I consider you guys some of my best friends, so actually hanging out and having a few drinks was fan-bloody-tastic. Here’s to many more of the same!” “The Meet-Up, with unfortunate ease compared to the other big events we've organised. Meeting some of y'all and playing dem gaemz with y'all - on my Wii U, too (yes, I waive my right to anonymity ) - was totes amaze, as I hear people saying* these days. Can't wait for 2 Meet 2 Up. ” “It has to be the Newcastle meet up, doesn't it? Good times & I can't wait to do it again.”
- What I Say:
Yeah, it was a bit of a shoe-in, wasn't it? Unsurprisingly, everybody who submitted a ballot and went to the meet-up voted for it in this category, with a couple of people who didn't go even suggesting they would have voted for it had they went. A top event - here's to Meet-up 2K17!
Another one! The Topic Bar Award for Topic of the Year
There'd be no forum without things to discuss, so it falls upon the backs of these wonderful topics to get discussion flowing. Here are your results for Topic of the Year! - Third:
=Gaming Clerihews ( one vote) =Simply the Best ( one vote) "Simply The Best has literally been the most good, for me. A beautiful way to think about games that don't necessarily get the limelight. A corking idea from the Crump and one that Our Cappa has taken on with aplomb. To be honest, he's done such a grand job that it should probably be called 'manyplomb'." =Who's That Pokémon? ( one vote) “This has been a good year for silly little games and threads, and I think this remains my favourite. Some of the abominations even those of us who can draw are producing under pressure . . . *shudder*” =Nintendo NX -> Nintendo Switch (Switchcraft) ( one vote) “As this is gaming forum but with Nintendo as the core, I feel something Nintendo needs to be represented and this topic has given us many an argument, ideas (I was right) and now rumours for us to go urghh not more remasters and why is the battery only 3hrs along with cool 3D Mario at launch.” =The Gaming Zoo ( one vote) “Top Idea from resident GNaddict, Balladeer, even if he is swayed by the power of Matthew Castle from time to time.”
- Second:
=Is Rufus Hound to Blame for the Failure of the Wii U? ( two votes) (Fun fact - I pulled this image from the fourth search result of "Rufus Hound Wii U" on Google Images... it was from the thread itself! Sheamus also features a bit further down because of that thread too.) “This had me howling in laughter. What a thread.” =Pokédix ( two votes) “Pokédix. I like Pokédix. Pokédix.” “I thought this was a really fun forum game that tested creativity. Perhaps that's why it didn't get as far off the ground as it deserved to.”
- Tastiest Topic :
NGamer 10th Anniversary ( three votes) “Despite our coming together being based on that magazine, Mr. Grant Jones was organised enough to attempt to get us to revel in the past decade. Runners up would have been the issue posts, natch.” “Can we vote for our own threads? A lot of my favourite threads are the ongoing ones (What have you bought?, What have you completed? Etc.) I’m going to vote for the NGamer anniversary threads, whichever the first one was?” “It's been a good year for the big man.”
- I say!:
A worthy winner! A lot of effort went into those NGamer threads, and it's only fitting that threads based on our heritage take the top spot here. Good stuff!
More tomorrow!

| And tomorrow has arrived. The Lon Lon Ranch Fence Award for Post of the Year (11 ballots submitted, although some did not submit all three and some voted for the same post multiple times...and voting for the same post multiple times ain't allowed! A big one this - which was the post that blew us all away this year? Make sure to read after the results for a special BONUS SURPRISE! - Third!:
Cappa on Kirby ( two votes) – 5 points “Sometimes I like my posts as I like my thursts, long. It was a pleasure to read this very fine post about Kirby games by Cappa as archived by Zerojones. An entertaining read on a series I've always admired, but rarely got to play, and a reminder to all that alongside his humour the Kid is also capable of translating a wealth of gaming experience into something well worth reading.”
- Second!:
Turnabout Drunka ( three votes) – 6 points “Look, if the whole forum could post as if we were in an Ace Attorney trial 24/7, it'd be the best thing ever.”
- Grand Post Lord:
YOU'VE BEEN CASTLED ( three votes) – 9 points “Brilliance from Jimmers that exemplifies why he's one of the funniest forumites around.” “With help from Drunkalilly (and Mas), Jimbob steals the show with one of the funniest posts I've ever seen.” “It's been a good year for the big man.”
- I say!:
A good mix of different styles of posts there - genuinely great discourse from Cappa, creativity from Drunka and hilarious brilliance from Jimbob. A worthy trio!
BUT WAIT! There's more. See, there were, unsurprisingly, a shitload of nominations in this category. As I was tallying them up, I came up with a new mini-award of sorts, so... The Olly Moss Award for Prolific Poster of the Year (11 ballots)Basically, this award is going to bestowed upon the individual who received the most nominations for their posts over all the posts nominated. Case in point, the winner of Post of the Year got three votes for his post, so that's three nominations for that post in total. Let's take a look at the results! - 3:
Muss (two nominations)
- 2:
Jimbob (four nominations)
The Cappucino Kid (four nominations)
- ONEONEONEONEONE:
Drunkalilly (thirteen (!!!) nominations)
- Appreciated:
All with one nomination!
JayMoyles Crumpy Andy Athrun888 Balladeer ZeroJones Masofdas The_Jaster
So there you go! A bonus award, just for you lot. Tomorrow - it's GNamer's turn to talk about our games of the year that was! |
