What are you playing on your Switch?

Whenever I get my finger out I've got a review due for Rive. I liked it but - and I need to go back and play Normal mode to check that this isn't a feature exclusive to Hard mode - the lack of any invulnerability frames made for a frustrating experience at points.

Yeah I don't think there is and even a few times after I died it threw me back into a bunch of enemies as a check point where I'd either die or lose a tonne of health. I've finished and it is a good game but something seems missing to take into those top tier shooters.

A lot of people had that complaint about Hyper Light Drifter when it launched and the developer actually patched the way dodging worked in that game.

...I am really looking forward to HLD.

I am also excited for Hyper Light Drifter. I've somehow avoided playing it, so Switch will finally resolve that.

Most recently I've been playing Streets of Red on Switch. It's decent!

I'm excited about Another Lost Phone: Laura's Story coming to Switch, I'm up for more mobile games ported as long as they're priced right.

The prequel to that caught my eye browsing through the upcoming games list a while back. Have you played it, Mas? It looks like the sort of game that was meant to be played on a phone considering the subject matter and whatnot, and I'm concerned it'll be a bit fiddly on Switch.

I've not played the other one but I didn't hear great things when that came to Switch but this one people seem to be excited about coming to Switch, maybe they got what they had in the first and totally nailed it for the next one.

So it's less to do with the platform it's on and more to do with the game itself not being up to snuff? That's a little disappointing if so, as if the game was still decent but played like rubbish on Switch I could have played it on iOS or Android.

If Normal is cheap on phones, then maybe give it ago but I do think it's not a well-received game where Laura is.

The 3rd game I'm playing is Binaries which is a puzzler where you control two balls at the same time to make it to their respective goals. It's both tough and very satisfying when you complete a level although I don't think I'll ever get 100% as some levels have me completely stumped, good concept though and I'd definitely recommend.

Colour me intrigued, sir!  It's been an age since I played a good puzzle game (okay it was Picross 3D 2).  Also: yay more Celeste praise.  I've shunned food and started existing purely off enthusiasm for Celeste.  What was your overall view on the story bits, Papa Smurf?

Loved it, I did have an idea what is was about beforehand after watching some reviews on it which I assumed might take away from it for me but nope, a great story well told. I can't say how it would relate to people with anxiety but I'd say it seems like a good way to understand what so many people go through and has a nice message for anyone who feel unhappy about themselves.

Glad you loved it, sir. I have seen it described as a simplification and a poor depiction in places/one place, but most people seem to really like it, including those with depression.

Sky Rogue is my latest dalliance

It's fun stuff so far. I really dig the visuals and the combat is sufficiently satisfying.

I can see how it might split people but in the end it's down to how people interpret it, for me there's a positive message in there that many could do to take note of.

I've been playing . . . Monster Hunter XX. Listening to Monhan podcasts (both the boys on Mash and The Carve) made me keen to get back on it.

In terms of other games, I've been playing Spla2n and ARMS when I have good wifi, and dipping into Mario and Zelda to get moons or shrines/ koroks when the mood takes me.

I still have some eshop games and stuff like FIFA/ Rocket League for when I feel like them, which I'm sure will happen at some point.

The big singleplayer games that are still sat unplayed are LA Noire, DOOM, Skyrim and Xenoblade 2. I've decided I'm gonna play LAN when I run out of Ace Attorney cases as a way of branching out into other crime/ detective content. As for DOOM, I'm not gonna go back to it until I'm settled somewhere with a TV and a pro controller. I'd like to give the new motion controls a proper bash when I eventually play through it.

That leaves Skyrim and Bobbobob, so I've decided that after this weekend's splatfest and party crash, I'm gonna get those two properly played before Dark Souls, Okami and the next wave of big Nintendo releases. Wish me luck!

(crosses fingers that somebody else on this place likes Bobobob anywhere near as much as I did)

Have you played Skyrim before? Knowing what I know about your taste in games, you won't be lukewarm about it - you'll either really love it or really hate it. I'm intrigued to see which way you fall.

Or I don't know your tastes in the least and you end up thinking it's a pile of average wank.

I was living on some friends' sofa when it came out, so I watched them play it while they watched me play Skyward Sword. I also bought my brother a copy for Christmas one year and he's gone on to become a massive fan, going back and playing through the whole Elder Scrolls series!

I will admit to not being the biggest fan of Bethesda's very procedural open worlds, but I'm hoping the music and dragons and feeling of going out into a big world with a sword will have enough of its own charm to at least interest me through a play of the main story.

Shame you've still not got your Xbox One as you could play a top-tier Elder Scrolls game in Morrowind.

I think that'll grab you, for sure. The land of Skyrim itself is easily the best world they've made to date in terms of being a visually nice place to explore. I'm a sucker for my snowy Nordic areas though.

It's pretty strongly the North of Westeros, which is very much my cup of tea.

Hyrule warriors - Started it today on my train journey back home & minus the occasional sun glare from my window seat I really enjoyed what I've played, it seems like it'll have a decent amount of depth to it as well which is nice as all I was expecting was a fun hack & slash type of game.

I get the impression that it (and the other warriors games) are as much RTS as they are slashy-bashy games. Glad you're enjoying it Jas, but I'd be especially interested as to whether it keeps its hooks in. Despite the new elements they introduce, it feels like it could get repetitive over time.
