Golf Story (Putt All Your Puns Here)

A few of us have got Golf Story, I'm gathering, or are thinking about it... so, thread.

I've only played the tutorial so far but it seems cute enough. The actual golfing mechanic is the same it's been since the days of NES golf games ( ), which is good, as I'm really familiar with it. Anyone else playing/loving/hating?

I haven't played it yet, but it the idea's great; I can't believe this hasn't been done before - using the mechanic as part of the adventure. (pre-emptive strike: don't reply that Mario Golf on the Game Boy had RPG elements coz that's not the same).
Digression: there were a couple of crappy games - Soccer Kid / Marko's Magic Football - but I think I want to make a team-based RPG where a bunch of midfielders have to tiki-taka a ball through an environment.

The more I read about this the more I want it, but I do need to make some backlog progression first.

I have bought but yet to play yet as I want to beat SWD2 first.

I was thinking we could get more like this e.g. Football Story like you Jim but wouldn't Inazuma Eleven be that?

I've unlocked the second course (and maybe more?) now, so I feel better qualified to answer your question, mas: Football Story wouldn't be like Inazuma Eleven because IE doesn't use footy for anything except battling. In Golf Story, hitting a ball with a club is a massive part of the game that you can use in the overworld to trip switches, hit people, and all sorts of stuff like that. I would love to play Football Story... but then I'd love to play more Inazuma Eleven, too.

This is on sale in the Switch eShop, and I'm dithering over whether or not it's worth buying. I like RPGs but have never been especially interested in golf, virtual or in real life. Did any of you play enough of it to decide if it's worth my dollar?

Can't be bottomed with real golf, do like Mario Golf. It feels like that, with a touch of Earthbound B-team doing dialogue. I should probably get back to it actually...

I decided I didn't really like it. The humour was much more miss than hit with me and it lacks the charm of the Mario Tennis RPGs.

I'm going to give it a swing and see if it's up to par (NOT SORRY) - worth it at that price, I reckon.

Wonderful little game, I really hope they make another one or release and expansion for it. Everyone get it so this can happen please and thanks.

Anyway, how RPG-ey is Golf Story? I'm up for playing anything as unique and well-crafted as I've heard this is, but I know I'll be pissing my money down the drain if this is some 30 hour long Earthbound rip-off. Is it more about the golf?

It's literally all golf, all the time. Everything is done using a golf club and ball.

Its really only an RPG in the sense that you get quests and you level up, everything is done by playing golf or doing golf adjacent activities. If you go out of your way to do absolutely everything it should still take you less than 20 hours, mainlining the story should be less than 15.

There's a fair amount of dialogue, I suppose, and tutorials at the beginning. Not sure how much that'll rub you up the wrong way Cappa.
