I like to think of it as you predicting the future... Doctor. Anyway, let's rev this party up a notch - only a notch, mind you; you can have too much fun - by announcing two results at the same time. The Slightly Disappointing Chocolate Bar Award for Topic of the YearJust kidding, Topic bars - we love you really. We do, though, genuinely love some of GNamer's loveliest topics. Feast your eyes on these beauts! - Thirdly:
=Switchin' and Moanin' (one vote)Switchin' and Moanin' "Yer man Drunka taps into the zeitgeist, with his inimitable blend of humour, love for Nintendo, and hatred for anyone who dare criticise Nintendo at all how dare they THE BASTARDS! Cough. This was a banger." =The Switch vs the 3DS (one vote)The Switch vs the 3DS "I appreciate the existence of this thread because it kept that nonsense out of other threads."
- Secondly:
=If... (two votes)If... "I know this thread was originally created in 2016, but I reckon it's come into its own in 2017. Whilst I've not contributed to each scenario posed in this thread, it's been grand to see the creativity flexed by the forumites and to chime in myself on occasion. Good stuff." "If... has been a constant source of goodness" =Random Gaming Thoughts II ~News Items Beware~ (two votes)Random Gaming Thoughts II ~News Items Beware~ "You never know what you're gonna get with this one but it's always nice to see what everyone has been pondering, kind of like a mini Twitter feed." "This is a terrible answer - Random Gaming Thoughts II - it's just a nice surprise to see a new entry. What's it going to be this time? *reads* I have no idea what that is"
- Firstly:
A Switch In Time (General Switch Chat II) (three votes)A Switch In Time (General Switch Chat II) "The new heart of the forum this. A delightful Smörgåsbord of jokes, hopes, and general chat about the greatest console of all time." "What else but the toppest topic in the toppest forum? Plenty of sweet chattin' action enjoyed by all."
- That's all well and good, but what does Zero think of it all?:
Another totally fitting award. The original Switch chat thread filled up quickly with NX speculation and when Muss created its replacement he unleashed a monster of possibility onto us all. Cheers, boss. Also, massive thanks to the light souls who voted for If... - I love you all!
Next! The Royal Mail Award for Post of the YearMuch like those science dudes divided the atom into subatomic particles, so we divide topics into posts. SCIENCE! - This post got enough points to come third:
=Athrun888 talking about the Thirteenth Doctor being portrayed by a female (two points)Here "It may not be about games, but I really liked this. Athers gives the definitive post on female Doctor Who, something that would do any forum in the world proud. If opinions can't be objective, anyone who disagrees with this ain't worth listening to. Objectively." =Drunka throws his copy of ARMS in the bin after learning he won't be able to see the female characters' knickers (two points)Here "In another year of top #bantz from the lad, this is classic. The boy can make me giggle without using any words at all. He's like some sort of comedy magician." =Jaster's Spla2n gag (two points)Here "I just can't resist a good Splatoon gag, and Jaster served up a treat." =Muss talking about 4K gaming (two points)Here "Really, could have picked any of Muss's longform posts. The man's a clever one."
- This post got enough points to come second:
=Drunka's Joy-Con song (three points)As for the url... er... I can't find it, apologies! The person who voted for this did include the text of it, so here it is: "The red con and the blue con played a game But all Jas wants is two joy cons the same He matches every set he sees From Monhan to Dark Souls III But Drunka puts on armour as he plays. He's looking for the best stats, Preferably light, So all his dodge rolling isn't fat. OH NO! This piece of armour doesn't add up to a complete set! Jas won't wear it! But good ol' Drunka took the mixed set way." If anyone can tell me what thread it's from, I will be happy to update this post accordingly. =Drunka's suggestion on how Achievements could work for the Switch (three points)Here "Drunka's post here changed me; bollock-breakingly funny." =Jimbob's suggestions for more Ultra Street Fighter II characters (three points)Here "Just when you think it can't get any better, it does. Each new character tops the next until a brilliant comedic crescendo is reached. Top notch stuff." =Drunka's Music Week 150 (three points)Here "The Drunk Man serves up the biggest music post the forum has ever seen, about the biggest game Nintendo has ever seen. This is a thing to be celebrated." =Muss talks about censorship (three points)Here "Muss is correct."
- This post got enough points to come first:
Drunka produces some fanart of Balla and Link (nine points)Here "Just one vote here but it has to be THAT drawing Drunka done of Balla and link, it made me laugh so much at the time that I even said it was post of the Year." "Drunka's, erm, endearing fan art of Link and Balla - No comment."
- This post did not get enough points to be in the top three:
All of these earned one point
a) The Cappuccino Kid on inclusive gaming: Here 2) Drunka reviews Crumpy Andy: Here d) Jimbob on Breath Of The Wild: Here Fifthly) Jimbob's 2017 Gaming Predictions: Here
- This collection of sentences is what ZeroJones thought of the whole affair:
We doez gud posts. Seriously, our ability to entertain each other has not diminished over the years, and I think that's part of the continuing charm of this very lovely site. Huge thanks to all contributors across all of time and space.

It was therefore nice to see the music post I put actual care and love into secure some votes. |

| Whether you spell them 'games' or 'gaemz', 'videogames' or 'video games', this is what we do. We anticipate them, play them and talk about them. Let's see where we were with them in Space Year 2017. The Gates Foundation Award for Nontendo Exclusive of the Year- Third:
=Hiveswap (three points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "Based on a webcomic I loved. I played a bit of it. It was good." =Yakuza 0 (three points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "The best game in the series and the best game of the year. It takes it to new heights with 2 brilliant interweaving stories that leave you constantly wanting more. Then there's all of the side content that leaves you in a state of joy for the weeks that you (and yes even I took weeks) will be playing this game."
- Second:
=Horizon Zero Dawn (four points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "It's a shame I played this after Breath of the Wild as I think I'd have enjoyed it a lot more had I not been spoiled on what an open world game should look like from Zelda. Still, smashing robot dinosaurs with traps and electric arrows was a grand old time. As much as the world felt uninspired by comparison, the combat was bloody brilliant." =Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (four points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "I think it's the only Nontendo exclusive I played this year. Cool Uncharted-y running climbing driving and shooting, and a story with no *gaaaaaaasp* OTT revelations."
- First:
Persona 5 (eight points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "The story and combat are fantastic. A true RPG to remember." "I think it says a lot that people who've never particularly been enamoured with JRPGs really took to P5. I've been excited about this game for years and it lived up to the hype. Great tunes, great menus (yes, that's an important selling point, honest) and some welcome changes to the battling and traversal from previous Personas."
- Votes went in for these games too but they won't be getting as much of a fuss:
Two points for
Knack 2: "Mario Odyssey? Pfffft. The best platformer of the year is right here, and anyone who says otherwise is a filthy Nintendo fanboy peasant. (Tried to bring myself to use the shortened form of 'cuckold'. Couldn't. Sorry.)"
Only one point for
1) Boom Ball for Kinect 3: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJIu0EfN-zM" 2) Doki Doki Literature Club: "Okay, so I haven't exactly played this one, but I'm really struggling for a third entry in this category! It's a visual novel and I've watched a complete run of the game. To say too much about this would be to spoil what is an incredibly creative take on the traditional visual novel. It falls into the same vein as Undertale in that DDLC toys with conventions of its chosen genre. Worth a look - it's a free download!" 3) Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice: "A really different experience. Can't recommend more"
- My thoughts:

| About what I expected for the top two placings, and it's good to see Andy getting Yakuza 0 a placing all by himself. My biggest problem here is that you've linked to TV Tropes Zero... I'm going to lose hours clicking through those links now. |

| Boo! I should've tactically voted But nah, other than P5 I didn't play many new nontendo games last year so I abstained. I do want to give hellblade, and horizon a go this year though so it's nice to see they're well regarded around these parts. My top post votes went to the silly ones, top work. |

Er... one vote. That was me. It deserved more, but games music seems to be a niche topic around here. Sorry boss. Kinda disappointed about the topic vote results. The chat threads are fine, but don't require much imagination or effort. Meanwhile, Drunka's 'Switchin' and Moanin'' topic was basically in the vein of Kirby's Rumour Buffet, while also taking potshots at the worst parts of gaming fandom. I genuinely believe it's the funniest thread in the forum since Snack Reviews and Guest's heyday. It was an ingenious idea with some quality posts in that deserved more than one vote. (If... was another good'un, though. Fun fact: I can quote that poem off by heart, because I am An Exciting Person.) at Zero dancing around the Post of the Year winner. too at a niche game about a webcomic about Internet trolls getting a podium placing. | I think the fact that the third place finishers were pushed through by one person each suggests an unfortunate lack of votes in the gaming categories this time round. It's something myself and Zero will ruminate on for next time round. |

| It's exactly like Jay says - to which I add, "Watch this space." Enigmatic! Anyway, let us move on. The Crewe Train Station Multiplatform Game of the Year AwardSome games are released on more than one platform at once, so that developers and publishers can make more money. - Multiplatform Three:
=Assassin's Creed Origins (one point)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "This reinvigorated the Creed series. The combat was actually good for the first time, the world wasn't overly crammed and the story was probably the best it has been. A game that has truly learnt from its mistakes." =The Walking Dead: Season Three (one point)Metacritic page TV Tropes page [covers all TWD games] no comment provided
- Multiplatform Two:
=Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (two points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "Definitely not everybody's cup of tea as it heavily relies on how much you like Dragon Ball, but as a massive fan of the series this was a cracking surprise on Switch. Seeing my own original character (please do not steal) scrapping with Goku and pals and the RPG elements made for a more involved experience than previous Dragon Ball games I've played." =Jackbox Party Pack 3 (two points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page [covers all Jackbox Party Pack games] "There are games where it's impossible to separate the quality of the game from the people you played it with. Then there's JPP3, which is nothing without great people to play it with... but with great people, acts as a kind of fun multiplier that will have the entire room in stitches. Not recommended for people with heart problems." =Life Is Strange: Before The Storm (two points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page no comment provided =Old Man's Journey (two points)Metacritic page This game has no TV Tropes page "A beautiful and affecting game with a simple but unusual puzzling mechanic. It may be short but it's still good stuff." =Rocket League (two points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "Welcome to Switch! In split-screen, this gave rise to some of the most hilarious multiplayer moments my family have ever witnessed. Its biggest problem? My sister's better at it than me. " =What Remains Of Edith Finch (two points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page no comment was provided
- Multiplatform One:
=Ark: Survival EvolvedMetacritic page TV Tropes page "Not played much new multiplatform stuff but I'll throw a vote in for Ark: Survival Evolved, had a lot of fun with it recently, much like a grown up Minecraft." =Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links (three points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "Has rekindled my childhood fascination with yugioh, I've had a lot of fun on this during my daily plops." =Injustice 2 (three points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "The best fighting game I've played in years, no doubt enhanced by having a regular sparring partner in the Crumpster. It's packed with content, which is great to see after the disappointment that was SFV." =Severed (three points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "Everything Drinkbox Studios touch turns to gold. Caution: will cause friction burn." =South Park: Phone Destroyer (three points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "Play it guys, it's free and it's ace. If you've tried Clash Royale it's a bit like that. If you've not, just play it" =Thimbleweed Park (three points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "You can tell it's a classy adventure game - you feel bad for solving the puzzles, as it means having to stop interacting with characters." =To The Moon (three points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "Hauntingly beautiful adventure game, sort of. Forget gameplay mechanics, for the most part, and just sink into the storyline."
- Multiplatform Zero:
And it does count, because Stockport train station has a Platform Zero. Every game that was voted for placed. I think it was only Rocket League that got votes from more than one person. *is exhausted*

| Think you may have misplaced a comment there Zero, I've got a weird hunch that the reasons for LiS:BtS might be as follows:
"A game that didn't need to exist, but it did and it was still great, shame it let itself down a bit towards the end but the highs were certainly high"
Good to see South Park Phone Destroyer get the recognition it deserves at #1. |

| I know it won't make much difference but I voted Life is Strange Before the Storm at number 1 which would be 3 points instead of 2.
I'm trying to work out what Andy voted for, I think his 3 points would be South Park and 1 point to Assassin's Creed.
I said elsewhere today looking at Nontendo exclusives and Multi Platform along with the thoughts on the 3DS based of the Podcast and the admin question maybe going forward it should be just Nintendo as it will be mainly the Switch anyway and Nontendo going forward. |

| That's why I suggested just two one just for Nintendo and one for Nontendo, seems far simpler and is how the forum is sort of set up anyway.
And it's even been suggested that their is a Nintendo section with all Switch, 3DS etc in due to the 3DS winding down, even though I don't like that idea but like above would work for a game award.

And it does count, because Stockport train station has a Platform Zero. So, that was extremely unfortunate. My apologies for the poor level of organisation that you have received in this vote. Anyway, the fact that there is an overall single winner makes me feel better about this category.

| Nice to have an outright winner. I didn't vote in this one purely because I've bought very little Nontendo in the past year, but I do want a crack at LiS at some point. Rocket League and Jackbox are very good in their own right, although Jackbox is dependent upon whom it's played with. |

| Thanks to Muss, whose post there prevented me from getting a hat-trick in the Awards thread. It would have been my own silly fault if I had, anyway. To the Awardmobile! *60's Batman scene change; did consider putting the gif in but as it keeps flashing the symbol into and out of the screen, it's a bit too weird*The Gunpei Yokoi Best 3DS & Mobile Game AwardNintendo, eh? They're reasonably competent at making handheld video games consoles. Sometimes video games get released onto them. Some of them were even released in 2017. We also counted anything made by Nintendo for mobiles. Here... are the results. - Thirdest:
Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle And The Millionaires' Conspiracy (four points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "Puzzles slightly down on past Layton but still a joy (this might have jumped up a bit had I finished it)"
- Secondest:
Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows Of Valentia (six points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "A return to Fire Emblem of a simpler era before marriage, children, overly complex reclassing systems and the dreaded waifus permeated their way into Fire Emblem. The simpler design made for a more streamlined experience in my eyes. Cracking Fire Emblem fun with some of my new favourite characters now coming from this game. They'll sing legends about Saber and how he took down whole maps by himself." "Takes away all of the nonsense FE has accrued lately and leaves you with a great strategy game"
- Firstest:
=Metroid: Samus Returns (seven points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "The first 2D Metroid I've ever finished, and it's a belter. All-but-perfect gameplay, let down slightly by a lack of charm." "In that it's a game I played this year." "She's back, baby! It's great to play a 2D Metroid game again. The new tweaks made to the combat, especially that oh so satisfying parry system, made for a great battling experience. I'm glad Samus has returned. Let's hope she sticks around this time!" =Ever Oasis (seven points)Metacritic page TV Tropes page "The most charming game you've never played. Switch version/sequel please." "Fun dungeoneering and watching your oasis grow is a joy" "The game is so happy with any of your achievements, which are all the cutest things you ever did see. A shame it came out at a time where it couldn't have shone into more hearts."
- Some other games that folks voted for:
Earning Three Points
1) Fire Emblem Heroes: [no comment provided] 2) Magikarp Jump: "You can use rude words and sometimes they bypass the filter. Also it's nice and I've not picked up my 3ds since Pokémon so shut up."
Two Pointers
1) Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp: "This was absolutely delightful, up until I realised that I'd have to choose a camper to kick out in order to invite someone else..." 2) Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions: "A shinied-up version of what is, I reckon, still in the top two Mario RPGs there have ever been."
One Point Awarded To
1) Miitopia: "Okay, so the actual RPG battling got samey fast, but that's not what Miitopia is about. It's all about making your own fun. I was giggling away casting some of Nintendo's greatest characters and the odd celebrity here or there into these ridiculous fantasy scenarios. I shared a few screenshots in the Miitopia thread. It's not for everybody, sure, but it was a great continuation of that brand of silliness seen in Tomodachi Life."
- Les Pensées de Zéro:
In possibly the last serious-ish year of the 3DS we did see some great games. Everything on the podium deserves its place for being a beautiful piece of software. I feel a bit sad that we might not see this award again next year...
