As Nintendo grow more bold in the world of mobile gaming, so do their games: a version of Mario Kart is zooming to a mobile near you before March 2019.
Now that's going to need some sort of button overlay arrangement, or it'll be hideously unlike Mario Kart. I suppose we'll have to wait to see how this one develops but for now - are y'all interested in this?

Not to bothered like the other mobile Nintendo games but I do wonder how it will play as racing games have been on mobile from the get go and like you say Zero they normally have button overlay as the controls on the screen.
The only thing is Nintendo's games on mobile have been simple that I wouldn't be shocked if it uses motion controls.

Nintendo's mobile offerings having been reasonably unoffensive so far with the only major offender in regards to bad mobile practices being Fire Emblem Heroes and its gacha mechanics. I'm expecting a pretty decent effort for Mario Kart Tour but like yourselves, I'm struggling to envisage how they'll bring Mario Kart to mobile without losing a lot of the experience. FEH and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp feel like bite-sized versions of the real thing... how can they feasibly do that with Mario Kart on mobile?

This had better be 'pay once and play'. I suppose they could add gacha mechanics for the drivers... argh I probably shouldn't have typed that out.

You've done it now Zero. Alternatively, 0.99 for a free mushroom! £3 for a blue shell!

It absolutely has to be a pay once deal like Super Mario Run otherwise I can't see how they'll make it work. Cue idiots giving it bad reviews on their app store because they have to pay money for it.

"Free to start"? I'm thinking that means it'll be like Super Mario Run. It'll be a long time before we hear about pricing, though...

That's the branding they used for Super Mario Run, yep. So, that'd suggest we're getting a trial version with the option to buy the full release.

This is one of those games where we just don't know what to expect. I predict a mess, but whatever mess that DeNA and Nintendo have come up with to meet shareholder and mobile device user expectations, it'll at least be an interesting one.
I just hope it's not as depressingly manipulative into getting players to behave in ways that benefit Nintendo's bank account as Animal Crossing is.

'Free to start' suggests it won't be, but also that it'll underpenetrate the mobile market (business speak, hooray) as SMR did.

Have Nintendo not marketed nearly all of their mobile offerings as "free to start"? I don't think that branding is really indicative of how much of a drain this'll be on the wallet.

Oh, have they? I thought it was specifically those games where you can play through the first few levels/worlds for free, then you pay once for the rest of the game.

This should work, but if not that's a search page from Nintendo's own site with iOS and free-to-start set as filters. They've got Fire Emblem Heroes and Pocket Camp in there, which aren't cut from the same cloth as Super Mario Run.

Yup, basically what Jay said. Probably a change in policy/direction post-Iwata, I remember he was very specific about what free-to-start meant, at least when they were experimenting with it on 3DS.
Still, wasn't Pokémon Shuffle branded free-to-start?

I think so. It was in a sense that the game was very liberal with its freebies in the early levels, but I'd still say it's somewhat disingenuous classing it as "free-to-start".

25th of September release. Looks like a mixture of retro courses and... er, Paris Circuit. Also, plenty of snazzy outfits to pay through the nose or wait months for acquire, and UNIQUE ITEMS ARE BACK HOLY CRAP
Anybody interested? I'm... still not sure, but it looks nice!

A lot of Japanese people love Paris and dream about visiting there to such a degree that there's a syndrome named for the shock that tourists - mostly Japanese - experience at realising Paris isn't an idyllic paradise.
In regards to the game... eh. It looks like Mario Kart on a mobile device and I don't know how much I'll get into it when I've got MK8D sitting there to scratch any kart racing itches I've got. I'll check it out for a bit, probably.

If I get my phone fixed I'd like to give it a go. I'm literally still playing Mario kart 8 at least a couple times a week, trying to beat 200cc staff ghosts.

Frankly, shame on Nintendo for exacerbating this myth.
I've completely dropped MK8D from a solo perspective and could do with a few new tracks... but realistically this isn't for me. Still, UNIQUE ITEMS LADS!!! I loved them in DD, still the best bit of that game.

Also in the meh camp but I'll try it and hopefully it has some good new features that can move over to the proper games, like the timed real world tracks.
