I can't think of great thread name (I'll edit in a good one), and you might be wondering why Decay of Logos a thread, well I wouldn't be surprised if this is a bit of hit around here and if things like Fe can get a thread this certainly can.
DoL is a Zelda-like from a Portuguese studio and will be published by Rising Star games (who are bringing over a few good looking games), the other game it's being likened to is Dark Souls due to the combat.
From what I can find it's not meant to be hard in away Souls might be but they wanted the combat to be more challenging then what you would get from a Zelda. It's meant to come out this Autumn on Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
I really like art-style which drew me into the game right away, due to Zelda-like nature and the art-style I think it suits the Switch brilliantly.
Here's the trailer which sold me on the game already.

I thought you were genuinely making a thread about games' logos not being as good as they used to be, I was excited for a nice meaty discussion.
I guess I'll check out the game trailer, then.

Okay, I'm back:
That looks like the dog's bollocks! I'm surprised you're excited, though, it looks like Dark Souls by way of Breath of the Wild. I suppose it comes down to whether it's more exploration-focused or linear enough to grab you.

They had me at "well-armoured female protagonist" - almost the polar opposite of the image that you posted in the Ys VIII thread, mas. It does look like it will help me further develop the art of patience when playing video games, though.

The thing is I like BotW's art-style, sure this isn't exactly the same and I think when they're talking Zelda-like I think they mean OoT, TP etc due to the game having dungeons and I wouldn't be surprised if it's not in a SotC style as well with an empty atmospheric world.
Then once you've ridden your elk to a dungeon it will focus on combat in a Soulsborne way, which I've never had an issue within a Soulsborne and like I said it's here for the challenge not to be hard that I would think it's dialled back a bit.
I've got got to keep everyone happy, Zero

Aye this looks like it could be alright but I need to see a wee bit more before I can fully make up my mind on it though.

With apologies to Mas, I really don't like the look of the trailer. Not sure if that's the art style or the level design or the character movement or what. I'm happy to see how it does, but Dark Souls x BotW seems awfully high praise for what was shown.

That's why I'm wary of it tbh as any game that jumps on the "it's a souls-like" train have very big shoes to fill.

Yeah, I wasn't too hot on the animations shown off on the trailer. Naturally, I don't want to judge a game solely on its visuals but you don't have much else to go by with a trailer! I'm interested in how it lives up to the inspirations that it's clearly drawing from - it'll be a tall order to effectively blend BotW and Dark Souls.

I think it's because they feel a bit... floaty. When combat's that integral, you want to feel like every footstep, every weapon, to have some weight behind it. These don't, they feel like puppets on strings. The bit where she stabs the barrel is especially bad.

I can't really judge the feel of a game until I play it (unless it's shovelware levels of bad), so I'd like to see a demo. If it's anything like Dark Souls though, a demo wouldn't really show off what the game actually does. I'm treating this like I did Snake Pass, avoiding until I hear people whose opinions I respect rave about it (which is why I don't own Snake Pass).

Yeah a demo could help this but I doubt we will get one, even though I'm excited for the DoL, I can see it falling into the same sort of category as Rime that it has some great ideas and some will love it (Was in my Top 10 Switch games) but having problems which some might not look past and drag it down.

I've rewatched the trailer, and I have to say I still feel much more positive than most of you. The player character seemed to be dodging, ducking and attacking pretty quickly and fluidly. Like some of you said, you can never know until it's in the hands, but I didn't see any big warning signs or anything.

I hope I like it, I could always go for another Zelda-like sword-based action adventure. They are my favourite types of games, apparently. Good reviews and I'm in, misgivings or no.

This is coming out the end of the month
I'm still keen but the end of August has Astral Chain, Control and Man of Medan that unless this is cheap or game pass, I may have to give it a miss for a while.

That's what it needed to be fair. It looked floaty and horrible from the previous trailer: see my previous posts on the topic. Looked much better now, and while it still seems to lack some of the whimsy that the Zelda games mostly have, the fact that your goat can headbutt enemies might make it worth playing in and of itself.
Looking forward to reviews! I wasn't going to have enough to play at the back end of this year...

I was mainly talking about the announcement trailer - the new one has less combat in it on balance!
If I want to play it, it will be for the exploration, not the battles.

Well this has turned out to be a bit of a mess in terms of review and the game itself.
I got a review code for the game Xbox One, with a embargo of the 22nd to show content upto the first village but wasn't allowed to review to the 27th.
IGN for one along with others put reviews up on the 22nd and they gave it a 3.7 or something like that.
In turns out that the Xbox One verison is a 2 month old code and the patch hasn't gone out, the other versions also have issues hence why the one review from IGN not like with Prey.
They've since taken the review down as it's not the product we will buy on launch.
Others still have reviews up, with a mixed response as Push Square gave it a 7/10 and seems to run okay on PS4 (version that comes out first) then others saying it's a unplayable mess, which it's meant to be on Xbox One with Switch in-between.
I'm yet to actually play the game and I've spoken to Rising Star and basically I'm going to play it like you guys would after launch.
This could turn out to be a good (7) game but at the moment who knows.
