Shovel Knight Treasure Trove – The best version of one of the best indie games of the decade.
Shantae: ½ Genie Hero – Beautiful, catchy, happy and bouncy, but the base game is just too quickly over. Get that deluxe edition.
Namco Museum – A pretty mixed bag of interesting old baws and baws old baws that’s £30 by itself. Bundled with Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 at retail for £25, it's much easier to recommend.
Mario & Rabbids Kingdom Battle – Shouldn’t work, but worked well. Why I traded this in to get Travis Strikes Again is a mystery of Mary Celeste proportions.
Wonderboy: The Dragon’s Trap - Not played it.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – The stuff of legends.
SteamWorld Dig 2 – A sensational follow-up to the excellent original, this deserved Minecraft’s success!
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers – Maximum sales for minimum effort. Just download a SNES one off the 3DS eShop instead.
Oxenfree - Not played it.
Floor Kids – It’s like if SSX was a rhythm game. Different, though a bit on the expensive side with it being so brief.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – I don’t understand how folk can like these games. Not stirring up a fight, but I thought that this was unbelievably boring.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime – A very likeable and earnest co-op shooter, highly recommended if you’ve got a regular co-pilot.
The Binding of Isaac Rebirth+ - I hate the aesthetic and it’s a bit too cryptic for me, but it’s constantly surprising and massively addictive.
Bayonetta – Dumb as fuck, cool as shit.
Bayonetta 2 – At least as good as the legendary original.
Snipperclips Plus – Novel co-op game that’s just about passable on your tod.
Overcooked Special Edition – Took it back to the shop saying it was broken; absolutely no fun on your own, and I didn’t rate it that highly in multiplayer either.
The Sparkle 2: EVO – Complicated…thing. I’ve got no idea what’s going on here.
Snake Pass – Unorthodox physics-based platformer that’s hugely annoying when you fail, and really gratifying when you succeed.
Scribblenauts Showdown – You can get the whole experience in about an hour, but it's all right.
Arcade Archives: PUNCH-OUT!! – Frank Burno said “It’s A Knock-Out!!”. I say ‘This Is A Good Boxing Game On A Console That Has Few Alternatives’.
Puyo Puyo Tetris – I personally prefer Tetris to Puyo Puyo, and I could do without the daft story, but this is still worth a place in anybody’s collection.
Shu – Forgettable and unoriginal platformer that’s been done better hundreds of times.
Kamiko – Breezy action adventure that looks great, sounds great, and is…quite good.
Fast RMX – Unspectacular launch game that so wishes it was F-Zero GX, but it lacks it’s spirit. All style, no substance.
Lumo – Isometric puzzle-platformer that shares many of the pros and cons of older games design.
Owlboy – Overrated Metroidvania. This left very little impression on me.
Mecho Tales – Dreadful Rayman 1 clone that defies the laws of sensible 2D platformer games design.
Aqua Kitty UDX – Satisfying bullet-hell shooter that takes place underwater and has loads of cats.
Flip Wars – Mediocre and empty tile-flipping game that’s there to fill a Bomberman void that was already filled by Super Bomberman R. This should be free with Nintendo Switch Online.
Wulverblade – Bloody, savage and hugely enjoyable side-scrolling brawler, definitely one of the best since the 90s.
LEGO City Undercover – One of my favourite Wii U games, but competition for your playing time is much more fierce on Switch.
FIFA 18 – A decent first effort at a football game on Switch, but obviously underdeveloped and punted out the door before it was finished.
Miles & Kilo – Challenging but eminently beatable 2D platformer that’s a great follow-up to Kid Tripp.
The Adventure Pals - Not played it.
Bleed – Probably great on Xbox Live’s Indies service, but tight design and fluid controls doesn’t make it worth a tenner on Switch.
Yoku’s Island Express – Likeable and energetic, SEGA should get Villa Gorilla to develop a new Sonic Spinball off of this.
Super Mario Odyssey – A modern classic, every bit as a good as the likes of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy.
Graceful Explosion Machine – Slick and stylish side-scrolling shoot ‘em up that was brilliant when the Switch came out.
Pokemon Quest – Addictive and free, but never any good.
Runbow – Still good, but shined brighter on Wii U, where the alternatives were Stone Shire, Frenchy Bird and Hot Rod Racer.
ACA NeoGeo Metal Slug – Truly excellent old-school side-scrolling shooter, right up there with Gunstar Heroes as the genre’s best ever.
ACA NeoGeo Alpha Mission II – Slow vertical shooter that looks surprisingly rubbish for a NeoGeo game.
ACA NeoGeo Super Sidekicks – Okayish football game from 1993, but usurped by it’s many sequels.
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze – So much better than I gave it credit for on Wii U, and Donkey Kong’s best game ever.
Golf Story – Charming and witty, but got samey and probably could have ended sooner.
Kid Tripp – Single-button autorunner that’s worth a couple of quid.
Bulb Boy - Point and click horror puzzler that didn't really grab me.
Super Bomberman R – A bitter pill to swallow two years ago at £50, but much more agreeable – and padded out thanks to continued support – at today’s price.
Ikaruga - Not played it.
Super Mario Party – A good refresh of the knackered Mario Party formula, recovering what was good before and throwing away what didn’t work on Wii, DS and Wii U.
SEGA AGES Thunder Force IV – Quality update of a well-regarded Mega Drive shooter from 1992.
The Escapists 2 – I needed a walkthrough about fifteen seconds in.
Go Vacation – A decent weekend rental from your local Blockbuster, with loads of types of minigames and places to see.
Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy – Three fun platforming classics. Deserved it’s success.
Steredenn Binary Stars – Roguelike 2D shooter that can last about three minutes before you die. It’s dead good, but progress is slow and difficulty is high.
Wild Guns Reloaded – Futuristic Sci-Fi Western shoot-em-up that’s brutally hard even on Novice Mode but brilliantly put together.
Kirby Star Allies – Pleasant and fun 2D platformer that could have been released anywhere between 1992 and 2018.
Grim Fandango Remastered - Not played it.
Crypt of the Necrodancer - Not played it.
Hyper Sentiel - Uridium tribute that cuts about quickly and gets very chaotic.
Katamari Damacy Reroll - Row, row, row yet baws gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, I should play this more.
Car Quest – Annoying and aimless 3D platforming collect-a-thon that handles like a brick stuck in mud.
SNK 40th Anniversary Collection – Interesting compilation of arcade ‘classics’ that are older than all of us put together.
SEGA Mega Drive Classics – All your favourites, and Altered Beast.
Nintendo Labo Variety Kit – A creative masterpiece that’s a pain in the arse to store.
Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido – Odd puzzler that I feel I’m not fully understanding.
SEGA AGES OutRun – Iconic arcade racing at it’s purest.
Totes the Goat – Reasonable QBert clone by the wank who made Mutant Mudds.
Soccer Slammers –Unbalanced Mario Strikers-alike by the wank who made Mutant Mudds.
Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes – A massive disappointment, presumably made for a joke on me – I paid £35 for this keech!
Sonic Mania Plus – A dream come true for Sonic fans that’s very definitely in my Switch Top 3.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – Solid and entertaining platformer that’s hurt by the feeling of deja-vu.
UNO – Merle Robbins probably didn’t have this in mind in that Cincinatti barber shop in 1971. Better with cards.
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection – Twelve arcade perfect Street Fighters on the go, but the Switch’s D-Pad hinders it a bit. Play with a Pro Controller.
ACA NeoGeo Puzzle Bobble 2 – Timeless bubble-matching puzzler that’s been aped a billion times, it’s a classic.
ARMS – A tense and exciting system exclusive that didn't seem to last as long in the public consciousness as it deserved.
Rocket League – Car football that plays amazingly on Switch.
Horizon Chase Turbo – Superb homage to the pre-32 bit arcade racers of the past.
Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu – A smart remix of Pokemon Yellow. Very easy to like, though very easy to complete.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – The best Mario Kart of the lot, and one of Nintendo’s greatest games of all time.
Mario Tennis Aces – Uniquely competitive and badly underrated.
NBA2K Playgrounds 2 - Not played it.
Enter the Gungeon – Roguelike that keeps you moving, but I just don’t like it as much as The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth+.
Danmaku Unlimited 3 – Bullet hell arcade game that’s not completely bollocksed by harsh difficulty. Very accessible, very good!
Tetris 99 – A genius idea that almost validates the worth of Nintendo Switch Online by itself.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – Ever-lasting belter that’s probably the best fighting game of them all.
Splatoon 2 – “Splatoon 2 is a sequel in the way that Madden 17 is a sequel”: Dunkey.
Membrane – Curious single-screen puzzle-platformer that cost something like 86p? Worth a swatch.
SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy – Bizarre fetishist tag-team beat-em-up that makes me feel a bit unclean.
Capcom Beat-em-Up Bundle – Seven side-scroller beat ‘em ups by the folk who more or less mastered that type of game.
GRIP – Competent yet unimpressive Rollcage homage that lacks that game’s intelligent track design or belting soundtrack.
