| Judging by our opinions on the Rattata and Pidgey lines, we've got polar opposite tastes in Pokémon designs. |

| Of course you'd see that. And you're probably right! For me, it's the teeny tiny posing pouch and the arms that look like the muscles are bursting through the skin. |

| As you both no, I've already recorded pigeon and rat episodes, but your comments are pretty close to what I said, thankfully. I'm also happy to say I preempted exactly what the balls man would say about the Pidgey line |

| So, I'm gonna record Ekans and Spearow in the next few days. Any comments would be appreciated so can maintainthe illusion of interaction while I'm not actually making episodes week by week.
More importantly, after that will be pikachu! Everyone tell me your thoughts and feelings about the electric mouse and family |

| Thoughts on the snake, bird and mouse:
I'll never be able to disassociate Ekans (and by extension, Arbok) from the anime. I'll always hear that hoarse cry of "KOFFING" after saying Ekans. I can't decide if the names are dumb or genius. I'm leaning towards the latter.
As for Spearow, considering I quite like Pidgey, I found Spearow and Fearow to be too mean and intimidating by comparison. I think the very first episode of the anime where they nearly kill Ash and Pikachu didn't help matters either.
Pikachu... what could be said that hasn't be said about the mascot of the series? They're wonderfully cute either in the dumpy classic design or the more streamlined modern design. Pichu is a wee cutie too and it seems as though that'll continue to be the case with his return in SSBU. I do feel sorry for Raichu though - Yellow (and I'd imagine Let's Go Pikachu) actively stop you from getting one as your Pikachu doesn't want to evolve into a Raichu. It KNOWS that barely anyone likes Raichu and that's a shame! I suppose that's the curse of having your series mascot be a middle evolution - folks are going to want to keep the popular 'Mon as opposed to its older brother. |

| I prefer Raichu out of the three and one of the reason's I'm going for Eevee as I feel bad for getting rid of my starter and not being able to evolve Pikachu you start with is balls and I'm not having a Pikachu and a Raichu in the same team.
Least with Eevee, I like Eevee and can go get 3 wild ones and have Vaporeon, Flareon and Jolteon (Doubt I'll have two electric types but is more likely especially with alola form) from them. |

| The Ekans naming convention is definitely genius. What's more, I think Arbok is one of the more interesting early-days Pokémon, with its hood that looks like a face. Never mind that though: there's a scene in the manga where an Arbok gets sliced literally in half. (Thank you Bulbapedia.) That's dark. But mainly Poison. Spearow is a brown bird. It's a tad more interesting than Pidgey, but nothing compared to some later-gen. equivalents, or even the other weird Gen. 1 one we'll talk about down the line. Fearow, though, I like a bit more. Its wings feel like a big umbrella, its neck resembles the snake bird, and its beak is sharp enough to drill into things. It's a big ol' raptor, and only its rather dull colouration prevents me from liking it more. I am bored of Pikachu. It's cute but not among the cutest, not cute enough to appear everywhere like it does. If it had been just another 'mon I'd have loved it, but I've been deadened to it by overexposure. Raichu is a bigger more aggressive Pikachu; shrug. Pichu is a cutey, especially when it's nipping around Super Smash Bros. Mêlée shocking itself, but the head size does border on the ridiculous. Alolan Raichu's where it's at with this family. An extra type, riding its tail through the air and Electric Terrain, with dead soulless eyes. Definitely my pick. Drunka I need some tags and text for Rattata. |

| I always felt a bit sorry for Spearow and Fearow (and Robert de Niro) as I'd catch a Pidgey first. I don't really know about stats, so I have to assume that these do more gooder things. Ekans however I've quite warmed to - he's got such a happy face in the original GameBoy games! |

Also, if you're hankering for more Luke Summerhayes related Pokémon podcasting, listen to the feature I wrote on last month's bit socket. Y'all should listen to bitsocket anyway. |

CHUUUUUU!
In what should come as a surprise to nobody, this is the longest episode I've done yet. The script was twice the length of anything previous episode before I even moved on to Raichu and Pichu. |

| Your girlfriend has excellent taste. Remember last episode, when I said I'd find Pikachu cute and endearing if it wasn't chuffing everywhere? That's Sandshrew. It's a sweetie, with its little pot-belly. Nowhere is this more emphasised than in Dig! Dig! Dig!, when it's wiggling its widdle legs on top of a water spout. Sandslash balances cute and tough much better than Raichu does (I blame Gorochu), as well as looking like a hedgehog/pangolin/echidna thing, all of which are brilliant animals. Then it gets ice/steel typing in Alola, which is very cool (pun intended), even if the frosty spikes look somewhat off. Definitely two of the better monsters in the original 151. |

| Walked straight into that one didn't I. The Nidos! I quite like Nidoran-F, a cute little mouse-thing, but struggled to get interested in the rest of them. They're sort of rodenty-porcupiney things, but they follow Sandslash who does that whole thing much better. The gender difference stuff is interesting enough, but what's really curious to me is that the male line can produce eggs, as can Nido-F, but Nidorina and Nidoqueen can't. Bizarre. |

| Always found the Sands to be a tad boring as ground isn't a type I really use but they're cute for that typing I guess, now Alolan versions I'm all for being Ice/Steel as that is interesting. |
