| Everyone righ now go and buy some kind of protection for your WiiU Gamepad. Apparently they are the most fragile things in existence. I dropped mine safely on my knee and then it slid off onto the floor, I have my chair at it's lowest height so the drop wasnt very far but now my screen looks like this Anyone know what I can do about getting this repaired or replaced? I ordered it from ShopTo but I'm guessing their 12 month warranty doesnt cover dropping it like an idiot

| That's... impressive. The only thing I can think of is contacting Nintendo. If it's just a screen problem, an electronics retailer might be able to fix it? Maybe? But I don't think I'd want to take the risk. |

| Oh, no, Gwyn, I'm really sorry. I agree with Balla, though - Nintendo are probably your best bet.

| Yea I agree with Balla and Zero, give ninty a ring and ask for a replacement/repair. Also, what are your floors made out of? I thought the gamepad was meant to be 'sturdy'? :cyclops:

| A quick google shows that many people seem to have the same problem, looks like if it falls from any height at all and lands with the screen face down then the screen just breaks. So definitely get some kind of protective case for your own gamepads because it really does seem to break very easily and it sounds like it isnt going to be cheap to replace it either. I'll give Ninty a ring tomorrow I guess, there's no rush though, the touch screen still works I just cant see half of it |

| Damn sorry to hear that as others have said contacting Nintendo is the best their repair service is excellent too.
I do find it odd that it broke that easily though especially since I seen this video before launch:

| They need to release some kind of phone app or 3DS app that lets you do basic gamepad functions like typing. I cant even turn my WiiU on without the gamepad because I cant type my password out. How hard would it have been to make the keyboard appear on the TV and let me type with a pro controller |

| Do multiple people use your wii U? That's the only reason I'd use the password but yeah that is a small oversight. |

No but my younger brother often messes with my things and I didn't want him breaking it like he did with 2 of my old DS's and several PS2/Gamecube controllers and anyone that clumsy should not be allowed near my expensive WiiU. Lets just forget about me breaking the gamepad |

| If it costs you to get it fixed, get your folks to claim it back on their house insurance. Still though, that looks tragic. Like Jaster, I had seen that drop test video and thought the pad was built like a brick shithouse. |

| Being a big screen, there isn't much they can do to safeguard that, especially if it lands on an object with a point or a corner (table, etc.). |

| True, I'm normally a clumsy person most of the time too but I never seem to drop controllers/handhelds. |

| Is it covered under any house insurance? Accidental damage? With hopefully no excess to pay? |

You're thinking of Autoglass. Still, they're worth a go... |

| Well now Nintendo are asking for £85 to fix it despite saying it would be between £50 and £70 when I sent it off pretty sure it would be cheaper buying a new WiiU and then selling the WiiU again but keeping the controller |

| I'm genuinely surprised, Nintendo products are famously sturdy usually. See the grenade game boy from Iraq. - Gwyn400 wrote:

You might even be right there. |

| Their customer service is good but there is nothing worse than having to throw away £85 for something you already own The worst part is I bought the White Wii U because it would be cheaper than the black one but with this repair I've spent more on my White Wii U and got nothing extra out of it And I think the controller itself is pretty sturdy but the screen landed exactly on one of my chair wheels I've bought one of these now though (£7 at Game), it clips onto the front of the gamepad and has a massive soft spongey bit where the screen is |
