It's back, the greatest karting game ever made is getting a remaster and is headed for the Switch! Did you play the original? Will you be buying this new one? I'm more excited for this than I have ever been for a mariokart game, so my answers are both absolutely yes!

I'm getting but not sure which console
Most of my workmates and my most used console is now the Xbox One and this is X enhanced as well
However, it's the sort of game that suits the Switch in my opinion
But I played CTR on PS1 and I would think most people will be getting on PS4 and I know some let's say casual gamers will get this along with the FIFAs etc

I'm excited for this! By coincidence, I played CTR last week, before it's update was rumoured (let alone announced) and I had a brilliant time with it. Fair enough, I don't agree that CTR on the PSone is the best kart racer ever, but I think it belongs in that conversation.
On another note, I was disappointed to see a lot of snootiness towards these Crash Bandicoot remasters, as it's totally undeserved, seeing as the originals were such good games.

I think I only ever played the original once or twice but it was good from what I remember, I'll keep an :cyclops: on this.

It may just be the nostalgia of one of the first games I ever played but CTR will always rate very highly in my book. What snootiness are you talking about though, I wasn't aware of any

CTR had a pretty solid single-player adventure mode, if I recall correctly. It could end up being worth a shout even if we don't gather a GNamer gang for this.

I saw that snootiness from a number of UK gaming journalists, although most of their names escape me, because they're rubbish. Although I might remember that Matthew Castle was one of these folks who dismissed the N.Sane Trilogy, and said something like 'Crash was never good' before moving on.

I think it falls into the bracket of "it's popular so it must be rubbish", which is silly as the Crash games are still crackers.
I reckon CTR will do gangbusters, especially with online multiplayer in the mix now.

I don't know if you remember me bringing up Xenoblade's and because it's like one of the only JRPGs on the last three Nintendo systems which is good but what I have played doesn't compare to other JRPGs.
Both Castle and Scullion have said Crash was never good, I think it might be true from playing the remaster but at the time I only played PS1 that it was the best but I used my N64 then SM64, Banjo are miles better.
That I do think some games are viewed better than they should be if that's the only games you can play.

This is out on Friday, and surely destined to be the talk o’ the steamie in that sales thread. One of my favourite gaming stories of the last few years was when Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy sold out everywhere but it still stayed top of the charts for months. Fully deserved. It’s been in the charts since, hovering around the top twenty with Rayman 1, Driver 1 and Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (I assume, I’ve not closely looked at the charts since 1999).
I'm on it like a car bonnet. Get this bought, CTR is class.

I remember the single player content on CTR to be pretty decent - I'm assuming it still holds up alright in the remaster?

How so? Beyond online play, I didn't think they'd added much in the way of new content beyond refreshing the visuals and controls. It didn't seem like a RE2 total remake to me.

It's also got Nitro Kart stages, new boost system and when I think remaster I think more of the long lines of Final Fantasy X which is exactly the same as it was but looks nicer.
But then again this isn't a remake in the such as Res Evil 2 but close to ReMake.

I saw someone on twitter today mention that the CPU can be a right cheating bastard in this.

It's very challenging, and the CPU are quite ruthless with driving into you and shrewd with their weapon use. That's just on Medium difficulty mind - and I've struggled with that enough.
My first impressions of this are really positive, it's just got a surprising amount of challenge and difficulty, that's all.

Ahh that sounds alright then, though I don't see me getting this unless a bunch of us on here do and plan to get more than a few sessions out of it.

The bosses seem to be the biggest issue even on medium, with serious rub banding.
100% on even medium is going to be rather hard. Still at the moment, going to say this is still the best kart racer.

I've decided I definitely want this, just not sure if I want it on Switch or PS4.

I've got no input on that as I'm playing on Xbox and this doesn't have cross-play with anything.

I'm playing it on Switch, and on the TV it looks and runs quite well - probably not as well as on PS4, but it's more than adequate. I feel that the performance drops just a bit in handheld mode though. It's likely the same story here as it was the the N.Sane Trilogy port, in that it's graphically worse than elsewhere, but perfectly all right and comparable in all the other ways.
The loading times are rubbish though, maybe the worst I've seen in big-budget, 'name' game since Sonic 06. I've not timed them, but I'd guess that most last around thirty seconds, and there's a lot of loading times too. I don't know if that's just a Switch thing.

Yeah, I've heard the rubber banding is particularly nasty in this. Rubber banding is my biggest gripe with any racer, so if it's that nasty then I might not be as interested in this as I was.

I'll probably wait for a sale but I'm glad people are enjoying it. I'd probably get the ps version, assuming it doesn't have the switch loading issues.
