Looking forward to the next chap featuring in Nintendo Directs though... if we don't see some Bowser-based wordplay I'll be deeply disappointed.

I'm glad the big man is getting to retire and enjoy his days, and I doubt he had much control over the actual games we'll be playing, but it's sad to see the last of the classic E3 and Direct personalities step down.

Spot on from Drunka. We haven't really had a comedy Nintendo skit since that Muppets E3, have we? When it was the best part of the E3. That Runbow advert really shows what Nintendo are missing.

But like you say, that was the best part of the E3. Perhaps the reason we don't have so much bantz from Nintendo at the moment is because they're not trying to paper over the cracks in their actual content at the moment.

You're not wrong, and I reckon that goes beyond E3s and Directs. For example, the Switch has one of the best libraries of any machine after two years, but it lacks a certain Nintendo-ish-ness (ouch, there's a 'word' never to use again). No OS songs, no themes, no folders: just excellent games.

I like Nintendo-ish-ness (sorry), but I prefer excellent games.

Stuff like that is better when it's not done all the time anyway plus I appreciate how honest & up front they are being with the Switch, even the little things like in the recent direct when Mr Koizumi would ask if you enjoyed what you seen after a new trailer etc.

Meh, I'm a fan of fun Ninty stuff however often it crops up, and we really haven't had some for a while now. Koizumi's good, but he's not funny good.

That said, again, I was perfectly happy with the last Direct because it was jam-packed full of GAMES. And belting games at that.

Oh I love it too but you have to remember that most of it was down to how quirky and fun Mr Iwata was as a person so it makes sense it isn't the same as it used to be.

At least 2019 Nintendo isn't as dry as Wii era Nintendo. It isn't the same kind of quirky as Mr Iwata, but there's still a lot of warmth and personality.

Anyone else see this DYKG vid? Some of it was a bit too "business" for me but I did look up the Iwata speech which Reggie gave and it brought a tear to my eye.

The videos on iwata and sakurai are also well worth watching.
