Baba Is You (Baba Black Sheep)

loves it, I love it, Jimbob will probably love it when he gets it.  A mixture of block-shifting puzzler and rules-changing experiment with emphasis on the latter, and a low-poly charm all its own.  A puzzler where you feel like a genius/champ when you complete a puzzle is a Good Puzzler.

Anybody else fancy giving their soul to a rock, a flag, or a jellyfish?

Yeah, this is one that I'll definitely be picking up at some point, whenever that may be.

For those that have played both this and The Witness, are the puzzles a bit simpler in BIY? I really struggled with some of the later puzzles in The Witness and had to rely on a guide, which obviously wasn't as fun, although I appreciate that's totally self-inflicted.

That should probably be now!  It's in the sale and is I believe 30% off, although I can't remember how much it costs in absolute terms.  If you need more encouragement to buy it, our affiliate's gone 'full Celeste' on it and that's wonderful to see.  (In fact, one of the two banners at the top of GRcade is Baba-themed - refresh if you don't see it.)

I've still not played The Witness, but Baba does get bloody hard - but rewardingly so, I've found.  You could always try these hints (not solutions), or ask me?  I'd be delighted to talk Baba with anyone.

£7.90 is the sale price, for those wondering. With my gold points, that's under a fiver and it'd be rude to say no at that price! I can't promise I'll get around to anytime soon as my game du jour is Yakuza Kiwami. Whilst it's not as big of a beast as its predecessor/sequel/who the hell knows in Yakuza 0, it's still a Yakuza game so I'll be on that for a bit.

...and then there's FE:TH next week too. Hm. I'll get it played soon, though.

Hm, I'm not sure if it's such a good companion piece to Fire Emblem, which I imagine needs a bit of thought itself. It would on the other hand gel perfectly with Yakuza and Smash, which I assume are relatively mindless (cue immense Crumpyness). I'm playing it alongside the similarly mindless Lapis x Labyrinth, and they complement each other well!

Glad you've bought it, anyway. That's the first step complete. Second step: clear some backlo- oh.

I've also bought it, couldn't refuse at that price as I've been interested for a while. I'll put it next in the queue as well I think.

To a point, but I reckon it's a different type of brainpower required for BIY compared to FE. I reckon it'll go along nicely with FE - having it on the same machine can't hurt, too.

Ooh - ooh - I also bought it! I actually feel cool now. I'll get it played once Dark Souls is finally finished.

I played half an hour or so of this after polishing off Yakuza Kiwami. Some of the solutions of the early levels have made me chuckle with how simple yet ingenious they are. I'm stumped on a couple of levels in the lake sub-area - submerged lake (or something like that) and the tenth level in that area, Two Doors. But, I'll return to it in due course.

Regrettably, I've nothing to add since my last post! FE:TH has gripped its wiry claws into me and is refusing to let go.

It's bloody clever isn't it? I'm only a few worlds in so far and I've already had plenty of Eureka moments. I'm expecting big things of it now going forward, it's already exceeded my expectations with the variety in the puzzles.

I've popped this on my watch list but it could be a good while before I get around to buying it.

I definitely found myself saying "you clever bastards" even with my brief time playing the game. This seems like a must have for puzzle fans.

I'd second that. I will admit that some puzzles in the space world have put me off a bit for the moment though...

I feel like I've already hit a wall with it, I have 3 available stages at the minute and I can't figure any of them out, might have to consult a walkthrough for the first time as much as I don't want to.

Oh I out-and-out looked up the solution for Guardians.  Of course, it was then beautifully simple and obvious and I cursed myself and promised not to do the same thing on the next level.

If you want some hints without solutions, though, try this.

That's exactly the sort of site I was needing - I didn't want to out and out spoil the game as I did that for some of the puzzles in The Witness and felt hollow in doing so. A hint site is ideal.

I wouldn't worry, that's how we all felt. Then you complete the puzzles and go 'I AM THE CLEVEREST' and it's great.

That said, this has been DEEP BACKLOGGED for me. I'm looking forward to coming back to it at some point, but that some point feels like a way off.

Yeah very much deep backlogged for me too, makes me feel like a right doofus.

Ah, not for that reason (although I do also feel like a right doofus when playing it, and sometimes also when not playing it): just too much else going on, and I did 'finish the game'!  I still think of it very fondly, though.  It's so clever and I'm not.

Oh also: level editor coming out!

I am absolutely not clever enough to use that level editor.

Yeah, tell me about it! I had literally a decade of looking at Repton levels before I could completently make my own; Baba Is You levels mean Jim is Confused.
