Subject: The Platinum 4 Thu 6 Feb 2020 - 19:43
Platinum Games launched this website recently, to show off four new projects - Mas compared it to the Capcom 5, and he's not wrong there. Of course, we know what number 1 is.What are your guesses for the other 3? (Outside FIFA 2003, Peter Pan, and Shrek 2, natch.) It feels like they could be almost anything: who would have guessed that the first one would have been a Kickstarter? Other than all the leaks saying it would be a Kickstarter.
One of the most popular theories at this point seems to be a Switch port for one or both Nier games, but that could be wishful thinking. Me, I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a new IP in there: hopefully they get the Beanie Babies licence and make a game about soft toys kicking the shit out of each other. I've seen Okami 3 mentioned, but that's a pipe dream, surely?
Theories please!

Is it solely for unannounced games? Because if not, I'd expect one of the four to end up being Bayonetta 3. We've not heard anything about it since the initial teaser, so I think it would slot in nicely with this campaign.
I think a NIER remaster would be ace. From what I've seen of that game, it's a wee bit dated - a visual upgrade along with some gameplay improvements would go a long way. The thing is, NIER wasn't developed by Platinum. They only handled NIER Automata. So I'm not sure if that'll actually pan out as hoped.
A new IP would be cracking for number four. Give us something properly mental Platinum.

I'd honestly prefer it if the other 3 were all new IP's or maybe a sequel to Vanquish.

I don't think either of these will count. This is all part of a push for Platinum to make self-published stuff, and Bayo 3 is funded by Ninty while Nier is a square joint, isnt it?

Interesting article about that...
Anyway, if this is all the self-published stuff then I agree, those fall out of favour. Just don't forget where they got that money from. The devil always expects repayment eventually.
Viewtiful Joe did come to mind when I was talking about the Capcom 5, but did that licence stay with Platinum in the end?

Ones going to be Scalebound
I've said it before about Platinum they sometimes seem to be doing a lot of things and I don't know if it affect the quality of the output.
As let's say this is 4 new things even if ports, someone still has do it.
The then you've got Bayo 3 as a 5th project then Babylon Fall as a 6th project that's a lot.

Aye, NIER is a Square thing. The first NIER was developed by a dead games studio named Cavia too, which complicates matter. No idea who'd have the rights to that - you'd assume Square.

So, we have two and three. Here's two:
Three is a new Platinum studio in Tokyo, which at this stage is arguably more exciting for them than for us. Four is... a big secret.
That's quicker progress than I expected, but after number three wasn't even a game, four is... well, it could be pretty much anything. A new annual Platinum games convention? A high-profile hiring? Hideki Kamiya doing cosplay?

That teaser is definitely Viewtiful Joe 3, right?

It would seem to suggest that with "Go-Go" although if it is I hope the trailer is a decoy and the graphics will still be cel-shaded.

Platinum said that GG would be something of a 'conclusion' to their superhero 'trilogy', presumably starting with Viewtiful Joe and then 101. That leads me to think it'll be an all-new title? We'll see.

A lot of other things just lined up very nicely in the trailer as well, and my mind just instantly went to a 3D Viewtiful Joe.

Hmmm...this also makes sense & I'd be equally up for a game set in the same universe.

I think it is its own thing - I saw a post on Twitter about how Viewtiful Joe was an homage to Kamen Rider, TW101 was an homage to Super Sentai and this new project will be an homage to Ultraman, which are the big three Japanese superhero properties.

They've pretty much confirmed that Capcom still holds the Viewtiful licence. Still looks good though!
