The GNamer Forum Awards 2020 (THANKS FOR PLAYING!)

Forget about America: we've got the year's biggest voting event right here!  This hasn't been a terribly votey year, so hopefully everyone's ready for

THE GNAMER FORUM AWARDS 2020

The whole 'no rush lads' thing seemed to work pretty well last year, and everyone's got their own crap to deal with this year: even more so than normal.  There'll be minimal chasing, minimal pressure, and until Sunday 17th January at 23:59 to get your votes in.  That's three weeks: hopefully that'll be enough despite the tiers.

Please note: you don't need to vote in every category!  If you genuinely can't muster up some answers, don't force yourself to.  If you're not fond of an award, you can leave it out.  We appreciate any and all votes!

Finally, please chuck in some comments too when you vote!  A list of numbers on its own is a bit dull, so please tell us why you voted for whatever you're voting for, even the tagline one.  No obligation to do so, natch; but it makes these awards feel more special, and more celebratory, when we get some comments in.


The categories are the same as last year (apart from the Game of the Decade thing), so here we go:

Contributor of the Year (two votes, weighted equally) - The award for the person that's made GNamer tick this year.  Who's delivered the best threads, whipped up some cracking posts, and made you want to keep logging back onto GNamer, even in the downtimes?  

Funniest Forumite (one vote) - Arguably the most coveted award.  Who's made you laugh the most this year on the forum?

Post of the Year (three votes, in order of preference) - What posts stood out to you as top gaming chat, text walls where you read them all, or just made you do a big old laugh?  Check the Posts Appreciation Thread (starting here) for some inspiration, and do feel free to post up any of your contenders that aren't in there already!

Topic of the Year (three votes, in order of preference) - What threads have been must-reads for you every time you signed on in 2020?

Tagline of the Year (three votes, weighted equally) - Which of the forum's subtitles made you cackle, smirk, or shake your head sadly when you logged on?  Check the OP of the Tagline Thread for 2020's finest!

Nintendo Game of the Year (five votes, in order of preference) - Which Switch titles, either retail or eShop, were the top of your list in 2020?  Was it creating your personal island heaven, escaping from hell, or a papery purgatory that most tickled your pickle?  Remakes and Nintendo Online offerings welcomed!  (I don't think we've had any Ninty mobile offerings this year, have we...?)

Nontendo Game of the Year (five votes, in order of preference) - We had two new machines this year, not to mention ten months of other fine titles on other machines.  What were your faves that didn't appear on Switch?  Were you sold on souls, down to cyber, or were you just what you ate?

Honourable and Dishonourable Mentions - Is there anything to shout about that didn't make it into your votes, besides 2020 getting the dishonourable it so thoroughly deserves?  Tell us here!

GNew Year's Resolutions - 2020 put a lot of people's lives on hold.  Care to venture any plans for 2021, from creativity to leaving the house to just surviving?  Let us know!

I found it and have voted

I will vote once I have a few games of Hyrule Warriors under my belt. Have a feeling that could change my mind!

We've got two sets of votes in already (three including mine), which is great! I'm now fully expecting no more submissions until three days before deadline.

That said, like Muss, I'm thinking my gaming order might change as I play more of Sakuna. It's really nice!

Upgrading this to Global Announcement as we get into the last fortnight of voting! (While coincidentally still being in the first fortnight of voting.)

I've realised I'm in the middle of two games that are on my Top Five Ninty Games, and my list is shifting up and down all the time. Bit inconvenient.

Also yeah, my Ninty list would be completely different if i had actually played the majority of the 2020 games ive purchased

Got some games I still want to give a proper go so I'll try to get my votes in by the end of this week.

I don't think it'll change much in the grand scheme of things, but I'm planning to get a bit more of Cyberpunk 2077 under my belt before firing my votes across.

I'm assuming that despite it technically originally releasing a couple of years back that we're considering Among Us as a 2020 game?

Er, pfffffft. If it hasn't changed that much from its release version I'm not sure it should really count, but if there's enough enthusiasm then I'm not going to stop y'all!  I think it's technically a Nintendo game too.

We're up to five now - thanks people!  You can obviously edit your votes at any time before the deadline, if you made your submissions and then played a bit more of something that turns out to be brill.  Sadly Andy has submitted his votes, meaning that according to forum tradition the deadline will be brought forward to tomorrow.

I guess I'm only considering it a 2020 game as only the devs and their mums had heard of it prior to this year. I'm counting it considering it launched in Switch this year - you cannot stop me.

...it actually did and that's a perfectly valid reason to consider it a Nintendo game by any rules we've had ever. Completely forgot that.
