YOU TAKE THAT BACK RIGHT NOW!!!And breathe... I've been playing Wandersong off the back of Chicory as it's made by the same person and my god, I love it just as much, I can see myself becoming a Greg Lobonov stan as this rate, it's so incredibly charming and funny. |

Real talk, though: why do you dislike motion controls so much? Don't get me wrong, I get being annoyed at bad motion controls, or motion controls where they expect you to throw your whole body into it (although I'm not sure I know a single one of those outside party games); but you seem to be against the whole concept. What's wrong with 'em? - Buskalilly wrote:

It probably is because I have puny arms - maybe unco-ordinated ones. But my brain often has a different idea of "downwards" than the accelerometers. I'm still blaming the accelerometers. |

Oh, does Chicory have the same vibe as Wandersong? I hate to say it but I fell off Wandersong hard due to its complete lack of challenge. (Also I found the lack of punctuation on - who is it that keeps calling you 'lil'? Rainbow girl maybe? Anyway I found her annoying.) My enthusiasm for Chicory might take a hit... |

| I keep meaning to go back to Wandersong but it never quite clicked with me because it never felt like there was much of an actual gameplay hook. Maybe I'll get there eventually.
At the moment though, I'm playing Mario + Rabbids, a game I've owned for years but never got my teeth into because I have a funny relationship with turn-based strategy (read: I rarely get on with them, but every once in a while I do). I think I'm about halfway through (just reached world 3). I'm also playing through BioShock 2. While it's not as impactful as its prequel, it's still a lot of fun, and I forgot how terrifying the Big Sisters are! |

| Chicory definitely has more gameplay to it, like Wandersong though it isn't particularly challenging. It was the characters and story that hooked me with Wandersong, the gameplay serves its purpose when it needs to quite well though I thought, no section really outstays it's welcome and the platforming areas were usually different enough. |

| I watched Casino Royale on Saturday night, which lead to me getting a real hankering to play poker. So on the train to and from a museum the next day, I finally played the copy of Worldwide games that I got from my grandparents a year ago!
It's a nice enough little package. Poker makes very little sense when played against unmoving wooden faces, though. |

| I forget all about 51 Worldwide Games all the time. You’ll enjoy it for sure, and everything about it (except Tanks, crushing disappointment) is as good as it could feasibly be. It doesn’t really draw me in whenever I see it sitting on my shelf though. I’ll probably forget about it all over again between making this post and getting home tonight.
As for me, I’m finishing up with WarioWare: Get It Together for now, trying not to overindulge on Cruis’n Blast, and still making time for a quick go on anything and everything on NeoGeo Pocket Colour Selection Vol 1. |

| As well as finally making a decent start on Ys VIII, I've picked up Return of the Obra Dinn, only ages after the hype's died down and I've been completely spoiled on the plot. Turns out I haven't been spoiled on the gameplay. Just put together the first three fates so far (well I'm pretty sure I've got no. 4), and... it's definitely a thing isn't it? Very evocative, very brutal. Starting at the end a stroke of genius too.
The rest of the backlog comprises MHR (think I'm coming to the end of the single-player quests now), Pikmin 3 (rescued Charlie and need to go back to it), and Voez. |

| I've returned to Stardew Valley after going a bit overboard and getting burnt out with it in my initial run. Aside from the character portraits WHICH ARE GROSS, I'd forgotten how polished this game is.
Mainly just dossing around in it now, as I have more money than sense as my animals make more money than crops ever could.
How does Ys hold up on Switch, Balla? I have VIII but on PS4, as I'd heard that the ports were good but a bit choppy in places. Would really like IX too, but it's still a bit steep in price and another one I'd probably prefer on the PS. |

| I oddly also sort a got Ys VIII but on Stadia with Pro (I had £10 in my Google account, so did a month of Pro & redeemed like 20 games) and one of the games I got via it that do want to play but I'd also like it on VITA.
Playing on Switch, Metroid Dread which I must be close to end. I don't know after that maybe N64 things like S&P or Bloodlines on the MD app. |

| I tried the Metroid Dread demo briefly. Love the moveset and the vibe. If I had more time and less backlog I would definitely buy.
But for anyone unaware, the demo is out and well worth a go! |

| Hopped back on to Eastward after finishing Metroid Dread, still enjoying it but certain parts of it don't fully click with me still, it's gorgeous and fun to play but I'm struggling to get on with the story and characters so far which are a big part of the game.
Also started What The Golf? and it's really good, lots of amusing moments and a bit of challenge trying to do all missions on all the levels. |

You can, and they did. Three times. First you had New Super Mario Bros., which was fine. It didn't have any of the imagination and magic of World, but it was fine. The you had NSMBWii, the only one of the four I never finished. They really didn't get the single-player/multiplayer balance right in this one at all, shoving it all the way towards the latter end of the spectrum; meaning that levels felt empty and featureless in single-player. Even at this point the style was starting to wear. Then you had NSMB2, where the big thing in a series themed around the coin collectable was... coins. More coins. The point where it felt like Nintendo, the company of invention, had run out of ideas. Finally you had NSMBU, and don't get me wrong: I enjoyed NSMBU at the time. Looking back I think that's a sign of how starved we were for good Mario content back then. Coming back to it on Switch, especially after 3D World, showed how duff it and the 'New' sub-series were: muted colours, dull level design, the asinine decision to boot players back to the world map on ever death, and the whole 'easy until the post game' thing writ large. Not bad, but not good. So yep: you can, and they did, three times. IMO, natch. - Treesmurf wrote:

An absolutely tremendous game that's been cruelly ignored on the whole by a forum I really think would love it. Chuffed that you're enjoying it! I refer of course to What The Golf? and not Eastward: I think it's very fair not to like either the story or the characters, and they are a big part of the game. Hope you like Sam at least - you're more than a bit stuffed if you don't like Sam. - stu_the_great wrote:

It holds up okay, but not superb. There's nothing that makes it unplayable, but the resolution has taken a hit a couple of times in handheld. The really galling thing is that monsters only a few hundred yards away start moving at 2fps. MonHun Rise does the same but it's not quite so bad there. And that's VIII, I've heard that IX's worse. Otherwise I'm enjoying it a lot! It does feel more than a bit Xenoblade-lite at times, including some female character design ; but it's nippy enough to be its own thing, especially in the combat. Apart from the 'stop to heal' daft decision, which brings the pace grinding to a halt, but on Hard at least is too necessary to forego. |

| I'm up together with Monster Hunter armour and done with Pokémon Snap for now, so my main game I'm playing is No More Heroes. The nostalgia is there, I am enjoying it, but it does feel a bit janky and when I played it in front of a girl (who is a gamer!) she pissed herself laughing for the duration. After that will be NSMBUD and . . . - Balladeer wrote:

Thats fair man! Personally i really enjoy the New Super Mario Bros games because they are kinda like gaming "Junk Food" if that makes sense? Never going to be the most memorable experience but they look nice, play nice and i always have fun with them! I would love Nintendo to really go all out and make an exciting new Mario 2D game from scratch but i equally would be absoloutely fine with another NSMB game if it came to Switch! |

Oddly enough I haven't heard many (any?) of the reviews I've seen of these games to mention the waifu/weebness; they tend to shout about the music and combat mainly. As long as the combat is fun, I think I'll be fine. |

I'm at the point now where I think it's a Switch must have, there's so many cool moments in there which I've wanted to share but have avoided because I don't wanna spoil it for anyone. I initially waited so long to get it because I was waiting for a sale but it's totally worth the asking price, it's more than just a novelty here and there and there's a satisfying feel to competing each of the different versions of levels. I do like Sam thankfully and any characters I don't like aren't to the point of them being annoying, besides the look of the game and the gameplay are good enough to keep me going. |

It does, but... heck, I don't even agree with the 'look nice, play nice' thing any more! NSMBU just looked so washed out after the bright colours of SM3DW world, and the style feels tired. As for play nice, I don't actually like the traction on the characters. They're a bit slidey for my liking. Part of my grievance is definitely because the mighty have fallen. If it had been New Super Kirby U then I'd have shrugged it off. - stu_the_great wrote:

Ah yes, the music. I do like it, but it feels a bit much sometimes? It's almost always JRock blaring out twenty-to-the-dozen. As for the waifu quality and the combat, I've said more on them in the Ys VIII thread! - Treesmurf wrote:

| No defence needed Stu, you've not been here for long and as you say the game itself doesn't exactly stand out. I have however been yelling at everyone else since last year about how it's a game basically everyone here (apart from Mas maybe) should pick up, yes for full price if you have to. I know my tastes aren't equal to everyone/anyone else's, but this isn't recommending Bravely Default 2 to Jas - I'm a bit smarter than that. It's directly in GNamer's general wheelhouse. Anyway Smurf's one of the good ones. |
