No, it's not - though there is a biting reality to some of the earlier episodes of Rab C. that makes for uncomfortable viewing.

I once saw an episode of Keeping Up Appearances - is all of England like that?

Only the town - the countryside's all like To The Manor Born. (By the way, I cannot express how sad I am that upon putting "Keeping Up" into Google, it autofilled the rest as "With the Kardashians". Sad )

Come if you can, Jay. I'll ask nupkin to set dates and stuff because she's more organised than me.

Only the south. The north is all like Last Of The Summer Wine (full of mad old people).

How's about we meet for lunch / brunch / coffee on the Wednesday around 12:30pm? I haven't lived in Edinburgh for many years now, so could someone suggest a decent venue please, where we can socialise and eat?

Depends what you're looking for!

There's a great tapas place on George St. called Cafe Andaluz, and there's an Indian tapas (this is a thing, yes) just up from the Cowgate called Mother India's. There's a Chinese buffet called Jimmy Chung's right by Waverley Station - food's not fantastic, but it's cheap and ridiculously central.

Why the heck not? Get Xenoskittles on too - that way we don't have to bother coming to Oz! Winky Face

I am fairly easy with where we meet, just so long as it's not KFC (or some place of similar ilk). And as long as it's not fish-focused, natch.

I think meeting somewhere central would be for the best. Selfishly, I wouldn't be up for travelling much beyond the 75 miles-or-so I'll have to do to join youse that day (even if I can - won't know for sure until about a week before). I'm not so fussed about where we'd go, though I definitely wouldn't object to a few pints whilst we're there.

I'd stick to the Princes St. area then, if you're getting a train through to Waverley. There's a street called Rose St. that's literally full of pubs in between Princes St. and George St. There's about 20 pubs there so if you're looking for a few pints you can't go wrong there.

Right, decision time then! Why don't we go to Jimmy Chung's? It is near Waverley, and it's cheap. We are tight Scottish bastards after all. Then afterwards we can retire to a pub on Rose Street - I'm sure we can decide which one on the day.

I'd recommend The Great Grog Bar, but I've not been in a few years. As for food, Jimmy Chungs is just like China Buffet King, right?

I'm guessing so, yeah! It's cheap Chinese grub - nothing quality, but it's £7 or £8 for all you can eat Chinese food, so not too shabby.

Hmm, if I have the Wednesday in question off work (which i usually do have Wednesdays off) I might see how much it'll cost me to get there, I wouldn't think it'd be too expensive from Manchester right?

Probably not by bus, no. Booking a train just a few weeks before the date will likely cost you a bomb though.

They're all conditional though. Treesmurf will find out it's too expensive, Phillips will find out he's busy, you'll have an appointment on the day, Jay'll be exam-bound. That leaves Rum and us from down South, and Rum'll probably be defeated by Amaterasu before we can get there, leaving just nupkin and me to drown our sorrows down the pub.

Hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult for me to get the Wednesday off of work. That said, I've already requested the Thursday and Friday off that week. Still, I think it's more likely that I'll be there than not.

Govan is! I work there and it's like Rab C Nesbitt country. But yeah, Scotland is lovely, what with Loch Lomond and the friendly Weegie banter.

Looks like the chances of me making this have lessened over the last couple of days. I've just been offered a part time job at Citizens Advice in North Ayrshire, where they want me to work on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Wednesdays and Thursdays, depending on the amount of IT needing done (such is the nature of this sort of place...I'm desperate for a full-time job, but this is all that's on offer). I'd assume that I'll be starting next week, so...aye...it isn't likely I'll be in Edinburgh on the 8th.
