Of those, the only one I ever used was the Everybody Votes channel; but I imagine that the questions are running pretty dry by now. Still, indeed.

I'm kind of surprised by this, as c Wii has a massive install base who aren't all going to come too Wii u. I guess the question is, how much did people really use this stuff?

I still use the Nintendo Channel, but only for its gameplay records section. The rest? Well, I was into Everybody Votes (sometimes) for a while but I honestly haven't used any of the other channels for years. It's sad to see them go but it's inevitable.

Aww. I was quite active on some of those channels until around two years ago. With my mates back in the day, Everybody Votes was as much a multiplayer staple as Wii Sports and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. The Mii Contest Channel was useful for finding funny characters to copy as your own, and the Nintendo Channel was good when it was kept up to date (mind you, it's a bit sad now - 'there is insufficient data for any results' in the Everybody Recommends bit, and has been for about the last six months). Never really did the Photo Channel or that Horoscopes one though.
I know people have access to information quite like they've never had before, but it still always puzzled me as to why the 3DS didn't carry on the News and Weather Channels.

Sob. These were an alright time filler for me a few years ago. Everybody Votes still gets an outing at the end of a night when I've got mates around.

The one that tended to get pulled out among me and my mates was the Today and Tomorrow channel, but only because it was amusingly cult-like, and always gave hilariously vague advice. The funniest moment was when we tried it at my bedsit where there wasn't even an internet connection, and we realised it worked just fine. The Wii was pulling predictions from its arse!

To be honest I never used them that much apart from the Nintendo channel.

I used to religiously use Everybody Votes. There was nothing more important than seeing if your prediction was right and maintained a good average. I also liked finding cool Miis on the Mii Contest Channel.

There's a Digicam Print Channel?
Honestly, I can't even remember the last time I voluntarily connected to the internet on my Wiis. It's sad that other users will soon be deprived of them, though. I used to use the News Channel when showcasing the Wii's features to friends.

I am quite surprised at this decision. Does the wii mini not have wifi connect-ability or something? Seems odd off the back of the release of a revised wii to then can the online. Nintendo channel is about the only thing that ever got used..purely to track gameplay time.

Wii Mini has no online capabilities whatsoever. A waste of space outside of collecting circles.

I'm just as saddened as everyone else is - Nintendo really are making the Wii fizzle out with little fanfare which is really depressing in contrast to the highs of the little box.
The channels had that true Nintendo charm to them (and at the time they felt truly magical and a perfect fit for Wii's hardware (and WiiConnect24) - I still have fond memories of spinning the globe about and voting on the Everybody Votes channel for some random question which really never mattered at the time. Bit of fun.
It may effect a few households. I read a comment somewhere which mentioned that the commenter's father probably won't be too pleased at this news -- apparently he would read the news channel and check the weather channel before bed. Hopefully Nintendo will at least come up with superior replacements to these channels on Wii U...

I guess nostalgically it's sad, but to be honest I hadn't used any of those in years. The Mii Contest Channel in particular turned into a farce.
"Hey let's judge the 'A Famous Nintendo Princess' category" "OK" "And out of these 10 Miis... 3 of them are Hitler, and other 4 are 'just some guy'. Great."

Glorious. Like with the Today and Tomorrow fortune channel, they just pulled it out of their arse!

I played about with all of these channels a couple of nights back. The Nintendo Channel is in a sad state, but I do love spinning that globe in the Weather Channel. I'll actually be quite sad to see these go, purely down to nostalgia.

This news saddens me. I actually used the Nintendo Channel a fair bit to keep a track of my gameplay times on my games. Without it I would never have known my time spent on Brawl exceeded seven hundred hours, or that I somehow played Pokemon Battle Revolution for over one hundred hours (what can I say, it was my first foray in to online battling and outside the occasional Legendary spammer the matches were a blast, I also did pretty darn good if I do say so myself, I actually beat most of the Legendary spammers I faced for example). I shall make sure to make one last visit before it goes offline.
Sayonara Nintendo Channel, thank you for the memories and I hope you are reincarnated as something some day.

Might have to do an ibbsters style countdown of my most played Wii games seeing as I won't have a chance to do so soon.

I too realised that we'll all lose out playtime data from the Nintendo Channel, that's disappointing.
