| The Simpsons' secret formula: it's written by maths geeks When one of Britain's best-known science writers went to Los Angeles to meet the show's writers for a new book, he found a team dedicated to inserting gags about complex maths problems. And you thought it was just a cartoon… |

And you thought it was just a cartoon… The last half of The Simpsons' timeline is written 100% by computer, isn't it? Sorry, putting a downer on this I know - it's just whenever I see a new Simpsons it actually makes me sad. EDIT: Right, Jimbob, be more positive. Words we get from the Simpsons |

| That might be why. So to keep the discussion going, what's everyone's favourite newest episode? This allows for anyone who kept going or who abandoned the series after it started being less-than stellar. |

| 'The Simpsons' to kill off iconic character The Simpsons is to kill off an iconic character this season.
The Fox animated series' executive producer Al Jean would not give away the victim's name while speaking about his plans for the show's 25th season, which started on Sunday (September 29) in the US. |

Sorry, I can't help myself I don't blame you. I loathe modern Simpsons, and the funny thing is everyone misunderstands me when I say 'modern', because I forget I'm talking about episodes that are well over a decade old. The episodes from around the year 2000 were still fairly entertaining if not oddly written and missing a lot of what made the classics so great, but it quickly became intolerable shortly after that time period. I was really fond of the movie, though, and there were some more recent seasons which (thanks to Stu giving me the heads-up on these) saw a return to form. |

It didn't work for Maude Flanders, so why should it work now? I will concede, though, that the episode where Mona Simpson dies was very well done, and the one where Bleeding Gums Murphy dies gives me goosebumps in places. They just don't write 'em like that these days. |

| RIP Edna Krabappel As Edna Krabappel on The Simpsons, Marcia Wallace may be the only 4th-grade teacher to have the same student for 24 years. Before that, she was beloved as Carol Kester, the lovelorn, wisecracking secretary on The Bob Newhart Show.
Wallace, who was also a breast cancer survivor for 28 years, has died at age 70, according to the showrunner of The Simpsons. |

| R.I.P. Marcia Wallace. I find it ironic that Ned is about to lose another partner, this time due to reasons beyond the writers' control. |

| Apologies to all friends in the Southern Hemisphere for this post - I don't know how well the episode was received by yourselves (by the time they did the UK episode the series was already Zombified so I would've hated it whatever):
The Simpsons nearly got me in a bit of trouble at work. We do some cataloguing work for a world-wide chain that makes playground equipment. The most recent update we did concerned their Australian branch; however we noticed that, on the costing routine, there was no currency listed for Australia.
30 seconds before publishing time, I'd realised I'd left this as DOLLARYDOOS. |
