What you played from 2013

There's always talk of what console is best, or what game in a series but now and again best year in gaming is brought up.

I'm personally a fan of 2007. A lot of things happened news wise like sega and nintendo working together to bring us the 1st game with sonic & mario in which was the Olympics games.

But we got the following games, which were notable releases (or I just like):

Some absolute classic there, but reason i bring this topic up is this year seems just as good or better. There's two new consoles coming, we've had the likes of Tomb Raider, Ni No Kuni, Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, Pikmin 3, Fire Emblem Awakening just to name a few with some more hopefully great games to come this year in Pokemon X&Y etc. So is this year the best or has there been better, I know likes of 1997 had Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3 but hard to remember though as i was 7.

I remember that issue of NGamer that reviewed each year in gaming since the new millennium. Good times, great memories.

Yeah 1998 does look like a good year, maybe better than 2007 even.

I always go with 2007 as my go-to best year in gaming. It was my favourite time to be a gamer, at least, what with loving my Wii and experiencing the Xbox for the first time. Good stuff.

For me it's either 2009 or 2010. These were the years that sold me on getting a PS3 with games like Assassin's Creed 2 and Uncharted 2.

This year hasn't been great for me. The 3DS has been going great guns, true, but the Wii U is still stuttering, even if it's slowly getting into its stride now. It's down to X/Y and SM3DW if it wants to compete with the greats...

Phillips did have a good shout with '98, and I'm not sure I can give anything better myself without researching. '97, with SM64, MK64 and Lylat Wars, was another good one. Also, there are a few games that would have made good years all on their own: TTYD, Metroid Prime, and Twilight Princess are some such.

Good shout's but I'm thinking gaming as a whole Balla, Like you said 3DS has a had a great year whist Wii U having a iffy one, so Nintendo this is so-so but I'm thinking like I said as whole. Even if you've not played or going to play a Bioshock Infinite but you must realizes how big that game is, same with me GTA V doesn't bother me but I know that a huge game, so when we look back at this people will go it had GTA V that year . So if the question was what was best year for Nintendo it could be likely be 1997 with the games you said.

I understand that, but this is personal subjective opinion, correct? And for me personally and subjectively, gaming and Nintendo are synonymous. I don't give two figs for TLoU, however great it may be. If I were trying to give an objective opinion, then maybe I'd speak differently. But I'm not!

I did say good shout though and I know your pretty much solely a nintendo gamer, so understand your choice and opinion. But I was trying to give a objective opinion with my pick of year, I couldn't really care less about Super Mario Galaxy but know how important it was hence why I brought it up in my list of games of 2007 which I still think is a great year due to Mass Effect and Bioshock. But didn't want to go 2007 just because of those two game's or Any other just for one or two things.

I went subjective with mine - just so happens 2007 is also a good shout for an objectively good year too.

I'd've said 2007 as well, though 2008 saw Smash Bros Brawl, Mario Kart Wii and, most importantly, The World Ends With You, all of which kept me happy for a very long time. Probably some more games, too. There tends to be more than three released in any one year.

2008 is a very good year too: TWEWY, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Brawl, GTA IV, MGS IV, Lost Odyssey, DMC IV, MK Wii, Persona IV, Gears of War 2... Damn, I'd probably go for 2008 now.

That's a lot of pages, does anyone still use the old place. I never did (apart from 3DS birthday vote, which i was invited to vote in) but just curious.

Nope.  It merged with CVG, and no one's touched it since.

Lot's of other games came 2nd or 1st but none have had as much talk as TWEWY, I've bought a few games because of you guy's but nothing like this they've been one's i was leaning towards.

Yeah, it's been blown up into chunks and merged with CVG. It's a pretty horrid mess.

This thread has given me an idea for another thread - one where we spend a month pretending that it's that same month but a different year, i.e posting about September 2003 next month, and talking about news and game releases as if we were actually rabid gaming fans in that year.

It's £18 on eBay. Sounds a great Idea Jay, you could do like my release thread and news but combine the two and pick a year like 2003 September like you said.

Yeah, that's the sort of idea I'm going for. Sort of a cross between a news/release thread and a game-specific thread, where we'd talk about playing through a retro game as if it was brand new.

Am I too late to join in with the TWEWY love-in? It's possibly my favourite game of all-time. I haven't played it in a while (I lost the cartridge some time back) but the level of adoration I gave it back in the day I have never since matched. Make a point of playing it, please.

So this was originally about which is the best year in gaming which Jay has turned into a great topic looking back at certain years. Then this seemed to become a love in for TWEWY (watching a eBay auction).

I still think this year will be one of the best for gaming, I was looking at some of the older topics on here and noticed the Favorite PS3 topic and how that could be quite different now with the likes of Ni No Kuni & Last of Us appearing on that system. So i want to discuss what games have you played this year (came out in 2013) and what your still looking forward.

I personally played the following:

PS3 1, 3DS 2, Wii U 4, PS4 7, So next gen is where I will be playing most. With a total of 14 more games to look forward to and there's a few things planetside 2 which I will give a bash and the stuff on Xbox One I like the look of like Killer Instinct that i won't be buying this year. So 43 games to decide my GOTY, I know what it is at the moment and can't see anything coming out that will change it.

Past:
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (3DS VC) (barely started before my 3DS got stolen.  Maybe one dungeon?)
Luigi's Mansion 2 (finished with all statues, current GotY)
HarmoKnight (finished apart from final final level)
Fire Emblem Awakening (got to about mission five, abandoned)
Animal Crossing: New Leaf (about two months' worth, 80%-full museum and half a dozen Public Works projects, save file lost)
Game & Wario (first five games tried, including a decent amount of Patchwork, then largely abandoned.  The Miiverse game still gets the odd play, and hasn't banned me from Miiverse yet - how're you doing, Busk?  )

Present:
The Wonderful 101 (only played two missions.  They're long!)
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. (got to the bed quest, restarted due to pinching of 3DS, now back in Mushrise Park)
Earthbound (Wii U VC) (currently in Twoson.  Haven't played it for a while, but I will get back to it!)
