| A thread inspired by Fancy Fancy.
Since the dawn of video games (I reckon) there has been a need to show stuff you're supposed to kill dying in a manner that provides you with a great deal of satisfaction. What was once accompanied by a fit-inducing white/black/white screen flash and a horrendous white noise (probably) in games of yore, is now represented in much better ways, with much better noises, less fits, and less bleeding from the ear.
This thread then, is for discussion as to the best, most satisfying death throes / booms / explodemons in any video game you have played.
Is it Cybernator? Screen filling yellow and red death when in space, punching the crap out of fuel tanks? Is it Gradius V? Those space machines certainly go bang when they're bested. Perhaps it's Starfox 64? The pioneer of giving you vibration white-finger as MacBeth's underground train system is wrecked by a stupid fool who tied himself to a train in a vehicle just that bit too big to squeeze in to the tunnel.
Perhaps it's something else? Some of Link To The Past's bosses explode, crackle and pop spectacularly when stabbed/arrowed/hammered/insert other equipment here to death. Perhaps the ickle fireworks that appear when finishing a Super Mario 1 level with certain numbers on the timer do it for you?
I dunno! Fire away! |

| The boss explosions in Lylat Wars spring to mind here, and you've mentioned them too. Super Mario Galaxy had some nice explosions also, my favourite being the volcano in Melty Molten Galaxy. |

| I'm going to give the most generic answer ever, because I can't think of a more specific one, but I love SNES era explosions, where tasty sprites overlay a boss slowly sinking off the screen. |

Both of these, plus the Smart Bomb. Also, the multicoloured Bob-ombs from Bob-omb Blast in Double Dash!!, making every level a frenetic cloud of coloured BOOMs. Worst explosions are Selfdestruct/Explosion from Pokémon. Powerful, but if you use them in the main game, that's that monster's EXP down the drain. |

| I loved the cel-shaded 2D 'splosions of Four Sword Adventures mega-bombs. Those big ones that Dark Link uses in particular: a lovely orange effect, a satisfying boom noise, curls of black smoke, and the entire world ripples in response afterwards. Oh, and the death of any Turok 2 mook to the Cerebral Bore. "phfftupt, weeeeee, clunck, dzzzzz, gargle gargle, splurge, pop, boom!" |

Aww, man! I forgot the whimsical little smoke plumes that issue from a hissing bomb in Wind Waker. They were pretty, as were the explosions. |

| Super Metroid is cracking for explosions and such. The SNES had it down to an exact science. |

| Something that would be at home in the random gaming thoughts thread but I really love the old explosion noise from those days.

| I remember being wowed at the time with Goldeneye 64s explosions, also if you had an RPG on the dam level you could fire it toward the mountains & still get a teeny explosion in the distance. |
