Indeed it is. Just last night I was playing online against a friend and we were 4-4 on matches won, and had a tense decider that saw him go 2-1 down in the match due to his keeper punching a corner in to his own net (luckily he went on to win 3-2 or it would have been an annoying way to end the night).

They do some strange things, but yeah, most importantly they let a lot of shots in. If you're one on one with the keeper, it's a goal.

I've not seen errors like the OG you described but I'm thinking manual shot (which I use a fair bit) is over powered because no matter what player is hitting it if you get your direction & power right it rifles into the net like a bullet.

Using the advanced shooting setting fixes this a little but as you said 1 v 1 needs a lot of work.

Changes I'd make to my top games:

Obviously graphical updates/HD visuals are a given for most of the older ones.

1. Mario Kart 64 - Add online multiplayer and some of the best tracks from later games.

2. Super Mario 64 - Always wanted Yoshi to play a more important role and be used as he was in SMW and then later games so that. Maybe the SM64DS stuff?

3. Zelda: Majora's Mask - no changes

4. Zelda: Ocarina of Time - no changes

5. Resident Evil 4 - no changes

6. Super Mario World - speed up navigating the hub world map. Takes ages to get anywhere when wanting to select levels.

7. Halo 3 - scrap/seriously reduce The Flood parts

8. Super Mario Bros 3 - no changes

9. Zelda: Wind Waker - populate the smaller islands with interesting things and characters, lose the tri-force hunt for another temple or two, more boats sailing the sea.

10. GTA V - better unarmed combat/melee fighting mechanics, skateboards.

11. Super Meat Boy - an easy mode

12. Halo: CE - See Halo 3 for Flood comment

13. The Last of Us - no changes

14. GTA San Andreas - see no. 10

15. Smash Bros Series - More characters. All the characters!

Talk of Zelda: BotW being some of yours favourite/best game of all-time, how has it or anything else changed your Top Whatever since we did a update back in 2015.


My cheat Top 10 wouldn't change much to be honest but from the old Top 25 list. Things have changed now as a game I used to say is over hyped, now like MGS3 look back at more fondly and think it about more for what it did for gaming in terms of story telling.

Joking aside I'd need to to take a look at my last posted top 10 and have a proper think about what would be dropped for BotW to get in there & there may be a few other games getting put in there as well.

Off the top of my head, I can't recall having played anything that would make much of a dent in mine... but I'll take a look and see what's what. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE might land in there, if it keeps going how it has been so far.

Yep, I reckon this would see some changes. Not only has BoTW stormed into the top spot, but it's cast shade on all other Zeldas. While its non-linear dungeon-free structure means it hasn't overshadowed them completely, why would I want to be playing OoT when I could be playing BotW? (The story I guess...)

I'll not do a proper update now, because MK8D is coming out this month and sounds like it's fixing the few problems with MK8, so I expect the pair of them to rise.

Also, everything below first place is a pretty arbitrary order.

Some good lists and Jas has reminded me due to Siege, Overwatch should really be in the Top 25 and I think Persona 5 will be as well from the 8hrs, I've played so far.

I've also got stats on my Top 25

Top 2 Devs - 1st Nintendo with 4 games 2nd Naughty Dog with 3 games, Nintendo if you look properly would be lots of smaller devs though. Top Country of Devs Japan with 14 games then USA with 5 games

Top 2 Publishers - Joint 1st Nintendo and Sony with 5 games each, 2nd SEGA with 3 games. Top Country for Publisher Japan with 18 games then USA with 6.

Top Platforms - I would consider 6 of the games to be Multi-Format which takes the top spot then it is PS1 & PS4 with 3 games each but the PlayStation family having 9 games then the Nintendo family has 5 games with the GameCube having the most with 2 games (BG&E I think as a GameCube game but it is Multi-Format).

Top Genre - This is what I think the genre is and due to that my fav genre is between Action-RPG, Action-Adventure, FPS all with 3 each however if I counted the 2D & 3D Platformers together that would be the Top genre with 4 games.

The 25 games I've split into a focus Gameplay or Story and Story is the winner with 15 games focusing more on that, Also I consider only 5 of game to be about multiplayer and the other 20 to be about single player.

I think my ultimate game would be basically something like Mass Effect as even though it's a Western-RPG it has bits of my top genres and is mainly about the single player story but made by Nintendo.

Rainbow Six Siege better than Super Metroid?! Ruddy Nora. I was a big fan of 3 and Black Arrow and both the Vegas games but not dipped in to Siege - what makes it so special? I'm more of a solo player these days and Siege has always given a vibe leaning towards the online multiplayer which I don't think I'd appreciate fully these days.

Updating my Top 10:

In 2015:

I would replace PES 2016 with PES 2017, natch. Life is Strange, while I've only completed 3 of the 5 episodes, it's a Grant game. A special game that tugs on the ol' nostalgia glands even though it's fairly new. Have now seen the credits in both Galaxy and Twilight Princess, and while they remain in my Top 10, I've adjusted their positions accordingly. I've put Flower in at 10 purely because it's AMAZING and I've found myself just wistfully flying around the levels, seeking out every last flower.

I've also taken Toadstool Tour out because while it's a fine, fine game, it's not REALLY a top tenner. Also, Fallout 3 was a game I enjoyed immensely, but it's something I'll never play again. I put 10 hours in to New Vegas in the past 12 months and it feels so clunky, dreary and because I play those games in bastard mode (ie. kill any and everything), I can't move ten yards without being hunted by bounty hunters.

I always tend to treat these lists a bit loose as I could feel differently about certain positions a day or two later so it isn't as clear cut as one game being better than another.

As for what makes Siege special? Just how dynamic it is in so many different ways, a year after release I'm still finding out new things with an operator or new ways to approach an objective on a map, it has the most believable destruction I've ever seen in a game which isn't just about creating a massive hole for the sake of it as where/when you make said hole could be very vital to who wins or loses the match. The unique set of operators for attack & defence also turn it into a chess game where you actually need to think about what you are doing before you execute it & since everyone playing thinks differently no game ever plays out the same.

The audio design in the game is also phenomenal to the point I feel I need to play it with headphones to get that extra edge on my enemies.

EDIT: The single player for Siege is basically a glorified tutorial so aye it is an Online only shooter but play it with a few pals and it really is something else.

Thinking about it this has changed a fair bit, and not just because of new games coming out.  Some games have lost a lot of currency with me over the last year or so and are purged as a result.  

New List

01.) Persona 3 Portable

This game is likely going to remain in the top spot for eternity.  It came out at a time in my life where it made a big impact, and even today I find myself having a strong attachment to it, its world, its characters, and its gameplay.  There are usually games that, at specific points, would outrank this, but I have to give my top spot to Persona 3 for how long its lasted in my memory.  True classics are games that stay with you through the years, and I still vividly remember it despite over five years passing since my last playthrough.  

02.) The Legend of Zelda: Majoras Mask

Much like Persona 3 this game has a timeless quality to it, it was for my childhood/early adolescence what Persona 3 was to my late-adolescence.  

03.) Tales of Xillia

Rounding out the main trio of unchanged games, like the previous two entries this has a timeless quality for me.  It certainly isn't flawless by any means, but for a ton of reasons it's a game I hold close to my heart.  Even after getting a platinum trophy I still feel an urge to revisit the game.  

04.) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

At the risk of being lynched for this placement fourth spot is, for the time being, the best that Breath of the Wild can manage.  It's an absolute masterpiece, one of the best games I've played in years, and it pulled me in like no game since the above three has.  Yet at the same time it's not even a month old, to place it higher before the honeymoon period has worn off just seems wrong.  If it wants a spot in the top three it'll have to remain dear to my heart for a while yet.  If a year passes and I still feel close to how I feel today then we'll talk.

05.) Fire Emblem "Fates"

I'm in two minds about referring to what is essentially three games as a collective whole.  Part of me wants to recognise two of them individually, and to completely snub what is undoubtedly a blight on the franchise in the form of Revelation.  But no, they get one spot, and they get it for being turn based strategy perfection.  The story ranges from tripe to outright insulting, the characters largely lack the charm older characters found in even Awakening's cast of pandering archetypes, but it's a testament to just how damn enjoyable the actual game is that I happily place it at five.  

06.) Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

My reasons for loving this game are already well-known (I hope anyway), so I'll distil it.  As a fan of anime this hits all the right notes.  

07.) Pokemon Platinum

Yes, yes, the "latest version" gig is finally over.  I'm at a point in my life where, while I still have fondness for the franchise, I no longer feel so passionate that the latest instalment automatically gets a pass on my top ten list.  Instead the game that I personally feel is the best in the franchise, Platinum, gets a spot.  A not-entirely garbage story, a genuinely threatening villain, a simple yet genius change to the battle system, the best champion in the entire franchise, and a well paced region earn this top dollar in my books.  

Oh, and it was the last game before TPC started making their dry boring scripts that spent the entire time spouting nothing but FRIENDSHIP WITH POKEMON!!1! message, I'll admit there are times when a script should be spiced up a bit, and Platinum was the last game to really do that.

08.) Xenoblade

In contrast to how some games have fallen down in favour over the months and years Xenoblade has actually gone up.  Flawed as it is, and I still feel that X is a better game (plus giant pilotable robots, that stuff is like catnip to me), Xenoblade makes it on here.  It had some lame parts (how it handled a certain villain, watch enough anime and you get really bored of the "I refuse to kill even in X situation because dear god I might not be a saint" stuff), but ultimately it's a classic and a mustplay of the genre, even for those who don't typically like the genre.  It filled the void Final Fantasy has left of a giant epic scale RPG with an amazing world and grand story.  More importantly I find myself looking back on it far more fondly than I ever have in recent times.

You Will Know Our Names is still a generic and boring as hell battle theme though.  Fite me m8.

09.) The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

This game has stuck with me over the years as a solid favourite.  It captured my imagination when I was younger and held it for years after those two playthroughs.  I'll admit I'm not as enamoured of it today as I was back then, hence the placing on the list, but I still feel it deserves a spot on here.  

10.) Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

I imagine longtime Final Fantasy fans would shake furious fists in my direction with as much anger today as they would have in years past, but the reality is this game had one of the best action-rpg battle systems of last generation and, in my opinion, of all time.  It took the few strengths of its predecessors, threw out the worst parts of the XIII games and shoved the rest to the background, and focused on the good: a killer battle system that felt like you were duelling giant beasts that could crush you for a single error, and exploring a large and beautiful world.  The music was also rock solid and fantastic stuff.  


Games that have fallen out of the list are Persona 4 Golden for ageing incredibly poorly in my mind (it'd take far too long to write out everything that game did that bugs me, I'll keep it for when I replay it, whenever that is) and Danganronpa 2.  That last dropped out more because I wanted to avoid including too many games from the same franchise, same reason Tales of Xillia 2 isn't on here.  Plus the ending to the anime that tried to tie up the over-arcing story was horrible, and completely undermined the emotional weight of the game in just about every single way possible.  Endings can ruin things retroactively, and hooboy did Danganronpa 3 do that.  

Don't get me wrong, I want to love dr2, but the anime really did destroy it even after my best attempts to ignore its canonicity.  A killing game that
