| Continuing from the PS4 thread . . . - Muss wrote:
- It would be nice to hear how you get on with each of the boss battles. There are some really good ones in there as you would expect.
I've done: - Cleric Beast:
Pretty standard first boss monster, beat him after a couple of tries, had much more trouble with the two werewolves on the way to him.
- Father Gascoigne:
I dug this; a one-on-one duel with another hunter with my abilities, with a beast form right at the end. Quality!
- Blood-starved beast:
Pretty easy, especially with Alfred's summon right outside the door.
- Vicar Amelia:
The one I've had the most trouble with so far. She wasn't necessarily that hard but she had so much health that the fight dragged on and I inevitably made a dumb mistake.
I'm now at an interesting point where I've got like 4 different options what to do next. I can keep going down to Charnel Lane, I got an item that says I can apparently go to the Hunter's Nightmare, I can to an unseen village with a jail that a wizard sent me to or I think I can start doing Chalice Dungeons. |

| Vicar Amelia gave me issues as well for the reasons you stated. Father Gascoigne is a top tier boss for sure, the sort where you don't mind him besting you for a while because it feels like you're learning something not only about his skill set, but your own as well.
I think the blood starved beast gave me some problems. I stubbornly refuse to get summon help haha. It's a good fight though, a bit like one of those aggressive and relentless monsters you find over in monster hunter. |

| In the first Dark Souls I used a bit of summons my first time through but I've gone back and beaten everything solo. II and III I finished without summoning.
This is my first time playing Bloodborne so I'm dabbling a little in everything. I don't see myself summoning much because I don't fully understand Insight yet and I don't want to waste any. |

| I've done a few more. - Witch of Hemwick:
Really interesting, but a piece of piss.
- Shadows of Yarnham:
I had a little trouble with these guys at first, but the next day I switched back to my Blunderbuss and had an attempt where I was in the right mood and I eviscerated them
- All the Chalice stuff up to Pthumerian Descendant:
I'm worried about missing sweet sweet lore but the Chalices aren't doing a lot for me. Crap rewards, repetitive rooms. . . when Balla complains about a game being procedurally generated before he even plays it, hes thinking of taking the majesty of From's level and world design and replacing it with this. I might dip in now and then but I'm not expecting to finish these. They also don't scale with New Game + apparently so I can come back any time if I really desperately want to see the couple of bosses I'm missing out on.
- Darkbeast Paarl:
I think I was supposed to fight him earlier than I did because I was taking off huge chunks.
Still liking it, particularly when I trust my instincts and play aggressively like the game wants me to. |

| Aye, the Chalice dungeons were a nice idea that could've been improved on a fair bit but despite that I still have good memories of doing them in multiplayer with Andy as we mopped up stuff related to trophies.
Btw do you have the old hunters expansion with your copy? |

| Nah, you defeat one boss (which you've already done) collect an item off the messenger dudes in the dream hub area then go to the square area of Cathedral ward. It's definitely worth getting it as there are some cracking bosses/weapons in it and it just rounds off Bloodborne as whole really really well. |

| Yeah, Paarl was a bit weird. I remember seeing it the first time and getting my arse handed to me immediately, then coming back later and not taking any hits. Without spoilers I guess... I forget, do you actually need to beat it? I just recall it being in a weird place. |

| I've been playing a shitton of this lately and of course, it's been bloody brilliant. Great world design as always and I'm lapping up that atmosphere.
Paarl is optional, if I recall correctly. I fucking hated Paarl. Felt like I was grappling with the camera more than the boss - did it a bit early too, which didn't help.
I'm more or less finished with the base game, I think, so I'm tackling the DLC now. I can do a boss round up of what I've tackled, but conscious of spoilers for Buska if he cares about boss names. |

I think I've heard most of their names bandied about so don't worry too much. Unless one of the bosses is, like, Punished Venom Solaire or something I don't think hearing the name Dessicated Bishop before I see him will hurt me. I killed Amygdala last night, she was weirdly easy. I've had one encounter with Rom and although I feel I can probably beat him in one or two goes, he feels like a big deal so I want to wrap up Castle Cainhurst before I do that. At that point, I think beating Rom will be the only path available to me. |

| Whilst you're definitely right in that boss names don't give away too much in Souls, I much prefer this idea: - Jimbob wrote:
- Ah, just make them up for anonymity purposes. The Great Beast. The Blood Beast. Terrible Steve. The Grotesque Thing. The Beast Beast. Administrator Tony. FM Towns Marty.
- bridge beast:
Piece of piss, really. I don't even really remember the fight, I'm sure I killed him first time by just getting behind him and smacking him about.
- an irish werewolf in yharnam:
Had a few stupid deaths because I kept fannying about with the music box item to stun him. Grand boss though, definitely forced me to be a bit more aggressive and not as passive as I could be in Souls.
- starving doggo:
Summoned yer man Alfred for this and ended up having no bother at all. A common theme here is that for the most part, I found the big beast bosses to be easy as hell.
- dawn french is mad:
Rinse and repeat, once again. Just got behind her and smacked her up, no problemo.
- absolutely fuck this lightning prick:
I definitely fought this guy way too early - looking at recommended boss orders, he's meant to come after Brygenwerth - and paid the price for it. The camera was terrible in this fight which I think was more to do with how much he hopped about compared to other big beasties. A fucker.
- sue storms:
An interesting concept in that the boss itself isn't the real threat, but to be honest, a massive pushover. I enjoyed having a wimpier foe after the last boss, though.
- in the shadows by the rasmus:
I don't mind the boss battles in the Soulsbourne series where there's multiple enemies. I think it tests a different skillset than just learning a bosses moveset and I enjoyed how there was one close, one mid and one long range threat each. Decent lads.
- spooky spider mum:
Aye, easy enough. The little spiders hit hard but it was more about running towards mama spider and whacking her whilst dodging her beams. No real issues here.
- ah jesus what the fuck is that:
I realise this boss name doesn't give any hints to what it could be. Honestly, not impressed with this lad. Once you realise the main gimmick is running up the stairs and whacking the bell ladies, the main boss was more of an annoyance than anything else. Reminds of Gaping Dragon in that sense in that making sure you kill the Channeler up top before the boss itself is one of the main mechanics of the fight.
- ayyy lmao:
This was like that stupid boss in Dark Souls 3 that was just a bunch of priests. I liked when the one alien got big though, that was funny.
- cthulu, sort of:
Again, I realise this stupid joke name reveals nothing and I can't think of a way to explain it, so I'll just say it's Ebrietas. Aye, pretty tough cookie this one. I used the NPC summon and managed to dodge her nasty magic by running behind her while the summon tanked the damage. Looking it up, I should have fought this boss much later than I did.
- grandad why are you sitting out in the snow, you'll catch a cold:
First timed this lad, which felt ace. The humanoid bosses are where Bloodborne really shines I'd say, and King Dickhead here was no different. Got a couple of sick parries on him and felt like a boss doing so.
- eldritch wallcrawler:
Aye, much like Buska, no real issues with Amygdala. Just got under it and dodged those feet and smacked them legs.
- why are you running... WHY are you running:
This was a weird fight. The puppets he summoned in the chase sequence were not threats at all and his magic attacks were pretty simple to dodge. Just felt like more of an annoyance than anything. I liked his silly hat.
- DLC - Beethoven has a sword:
One of the coolest phase transitions in all of Souls. The fight itself was a little frustrating as his big sweeping slashes caught me out more than I'd like to admit. Got him thanks to an NPC summon helping out in the end.
- DLC - ayyy lmao round 2:
I fought these pricks when I was half asleep and they pasted me when they used Sephiroth's meteor attack from the ending of FF7, but got them on my next try. Not too threatening, all told, just need to stay calm.
- DLC - a song by Blondie:
Humanoid BB boss, cool hunter lady, fair but punishing moveset and fun as hell to parry? Easily my favourite boss in the game so far. Took me a few tries but I was never frustrated.
- DLC - dawn french's other half and he is on fire:
Got me a few times with his nasty three hit combo, but after I learned to dodge through it and got behind him, he was a piece of piss.
- DLC - do not adopt this child:
When I first faced off against the Orphan, I genuinely felt like it was impossible. Huge damage, a seemingly unrelenting moveset, huge sweeping attacks and tanky as hell. But over a number of attempts, I began to see gaps where I could attack, or spaces where I could sneak in a charged attack and backstab punish. It was so fun learning this fight... and then phase 2 happened.
Phase 2 was easily the most frustrated I've been in this game. I knew I needed to attack after he landed following a jump attack, but his obscene damage and arena wide attacks kept getting me. This was the only boss I had to go away and farm Blood Vials on. I eventually got him, but I was more relieved than satisfied in the end. If this was a one phase deal, I think I'd happily call this fight my favourite. But that second phase kinda put a damper on the whole thing.
I'm tackling the Chalice Dungeons now, but I'm finding them a slog solo so Jas has offered to return to Yharnam and help me out with them. After that, it'll be the last couple of bosses and I'll be done! |

| I've done quite a bit more since I last posted; I think I'm approaching the endgame now. I killed: - Amygdala:
Not that tough. The level itself was much more of a challenge, particularly those eyeball-covered bastards who can kill inflict frenzy with a glare.
- Martyr Logarius:
I had a little trouble keeping track of him when he jumped, but once I got the hang of that, this guy wasn't too tough. Very susceptible to parries and that.
- Rom, the Vacuous Spider:
When I first dropped down here, I spent quite a while exploring the boss arena because part of me felt like there was a trick or I was supposed to spare it. When I gave up and got stuck in, it was a piece of piss.
- The One Reborn:
The area was a bit of a bitch but it did a great job of teaching me to always kill the summoners first. Subsequently, the boss itself wasn't that tough at all.
- Celestial Emissary:
The boss was very easy and even the area wasn't too difficult, but in both cases I made everything worse than it needed to be. For starters, I fucking hate brainsuckers and I was getting seriously pissed every time they stole insight, even though I have more than I'll ever need. Then I spent a while assuming the boss would be more complex than it actually was; I was fucking about trying to use the make contact gesture and stuff. Turns out he just hides among the minions.
The Resi tribute with the wolf through the window was good though. I remember when this seemed like a game about werewolves . . .

That was a fun wee return to Yharnam in the last couple of days, most of our boss fights didn't really go past a handful of tries either. On my end everything was still there control/timing wise when fighting enemies but in that first session I did keep wanting to press X for roll/dodge and was bit confused using the menus/quick items. What a game! |

Indeed. Finished this off this morning. I had a real run these last few days, got into my groove and powered through the last few areas and bosses. I wouldn't say I'm done with the game - I'll pop into NG+ to investigate the Chalices, and I think I'll do another run one day to see another ending and tick off the DLC bosses. But I am done for now; finished this more-or-less blind playthrough and ready to get stuck into pods and youtube and stuff. Maybe it's too early to say, but right now I still have more affection for Dark Souls but it's a close thing. This came very close to matching it, and did some stuff considerably better. I just personally liked DaS's epic fantasy more than BB's horror trappings, and I value the impressively well-designed contiguous world of DaS more than BB's slicker moment-to-moment action. - Micolash:
This felt like a boss from a different game, like a Batman or something. Piece of piss.
- Ebrietus:
Cool monster, fun fight.
- Wetnurse:
Cool monster, fun fight.
- The Old Hunter:
Great final boss. Not hard or anything, but it felt great when I nailed him with a parry and finished him off. And yes, to the surprise of nobody, even though it looked like a happier prospect I refused to hit a button marked "submit"
