| The name will take some getting used to, and I am terribly wary of how much this could all end up costing. That aside, it's a positive move for Nintendo to get into the toy-to-life scene (I heard it called that somewhere), at least from a financial perspective. If they can keep Skylanders and Disney Infinity coming on the Wii U, parents will be crying into their moth-ridden wallets (or buying other consoles to insure against such tears!). |

| Depends on cost and content. I'll be viewing them in much the same way as I do DLC, unless there's some serious data-transfer stuff going on with them. That said, if I can rain laser death as Samus down on Toad and Daisy in MP10, that'll be reason enough to acquire her. |

| I'll just buy them solely because they look like they'll be nicely detailed and will look good on my gaming shelf. |

| Same thoughts as a few,
They look very good maybe to good which might mean expensive, I'm hoping no more then £14.99 each. I hope they come sort small sets like those 14 SMASH (i picture) and then a kinda mario kart set with about 10 figures. I know there going to work across the board hence why the packaging only says amiibo but still very curious what Marth would unlock in Captain Toad for instance. |

| I quite fancy getting the Samus & Kirby figures. - masofdas wrote:

I think those figures are specifically for smash bros, right? I know other games will use the figures but I assume only ones that makes sense will actually work with the game. So ones like Kirby, Marth & villager are smash bros only but ones likes Mario, DK & peach could work in MK8 as well. |

| Yes you are right from what Bill explains, sounds like you buy X figure for amiibo and will be compatible with game 1, 2, 4 and Y figure works with game 2, 4 & 6. Might confuse people buying them as like you said Mario most likely works with all most all the games but Marth just SMASH, SMT X FE (maybe etc).

| Skylanders are £9.99 I think and these look much better quality, so thinking they could sell them for £14.99 but any more is to much and any less would be very nice. |

| So, the origin of the name, according to my Japanese friend. Its a play on 4 words.
Amoeba = Life form. Figures that come to life. Mii = obvious. Amigo = Friend. Aibo = Partner in Japanese. (Remember Sony's robot Dog with the same name?)

| These look like they're gonna cost me so much, I want them purely from a collector's perspective, if they did nothing I'd still probably want them all. |

| CVG's podcast was talking about what exactly the amiibos could be used for that didn't make them glorified DLC and/or memory cards, and then it hit me. A Super Smash Bros. RPG! Play SSB4 to level up your characters, then use amiibos to transfer them over to SSBRPG and into your party. DK as the Monk, Jigglypuff as Bard, Zelda as Mage... I'd bloody love it. |

| TBH, I'd be happy with an NFC memory card- I know there's not that many games now that have a use for sharing save data, but that's probably as much due to a lack of ability to transfer saves easily. Online save transfer is a little messy and unreliable in my experience. |

| ShopTo now have 14 of them up for pre-order at a wallet destroying £12.85 each. Bizarrely, they list a DS/2DS/3DS version and a Wii/Wii U version of each figurine. http://www.shopto.net/search/?platform=&newsearch=amiibo |

| You beat me to AXIS, price seems right seeing what reggie said and the quality of them (by the looks of them). How many do you go for etc at launch as it comes £180 for all 14 of them. I guess one a month and hope not many new ones come out between that time. But am tempted to pick up Zelda & Link day one and maybe Pit ohh & Marth. Dam you Nintendo for making cool figures |

My guess there is so that they appear in both the 3DS and Wii U stores, rather than just in one or as a seperate 'Amiibo' store. |

| Those are decent prices as I only have my eye on the Samus amiibo for use in smash bros at the minute. |

| Down here they are apparently going to be around the $20 mark which is about right I guess. Not that I mind as I won't be getting them all, so far I have my eye on Link and Samus |

| I'm hoping those £12.85 prices are placeholders. The poor description and naming of the items on ShopTo at least makes me more optimistic that that is the case, at least.
The figures themselves (at least the prototypes at E3) actually looked fairly decent, just hope when they go into massmarket production that they look that good as well. |
