Also: it really irritates me when voiced games get bored outside of cutscenes and you get the odd line thrown in there, amidst a sea of grunts and 'Oh yeah's. It's very easy to get lost in the game's mechanics - I've seen some crazy things done with skill swapping and other such techniques that really aren't necessary for a normal playthrough. If you're not playing through on an extremely hard difficulty setting, then it's quite easy to breeze through a Fire Emblem game as one would an RPG. It's very user friendly, this FE, compared to previous games in the series. And your gripe there also annoys me as well! I understand that there's file size limitations etc., but it just makes me lament what could have been, y'know? |

| The tutorials in Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising broke me. Yes, the tutorials. Which is why I've never before today checked a Fire Emblem game out (even though I already own one).
I do wonder just how tight they are for space these days. Though I assume those video sequences (which don't appear to be compressed like those horrific ones in Mario Kart 7) take up a fair bit of memory. |

| Which FE game do you already own, out of interest?
There are several video sequences throughout the game, so I can sort of see if they'd be tight for space in this. |

| I have Shadow Dragon, which I've never played. I admit that I tarred it with the same brush as Advance Wars. |

| That's hardly a great place to get stuck in either. |

| If you're looking for a good entry point into the series, I'd recommend either the first GBA Fire Emblem (simply titled Fire Emblem, I believe) or Path of Radiance on the Cube. |

| Yeah, i'd second starting with FE7 or 9 first. Or 8 (The Sacred Stones) at a push, i guess. Shadow Dragon's decent but it's definitely the weakest localised Fire Emblem.
Meanwhile, there's a developer interview up now. Skim read it myself, seemed to have some interesting points, didn't see any spoilers either.

| Like Stu and Balladeer, I hated Advance Wars, but to my surprise I quite enjoyed the Fire Emblem demo. I'm not sure what's happened. Maybe I've gone mental. |

| Funny thing is I usually hate turned based games but did like Advance wars, Loved Pokemon Conquest and gave the demo a go of this and loved it. Plus I get a free art book now |

Okay, I'm starting to be swayed. I have liked strategy RPGs in the past: I enjoyed the two Luminous Arc games on the DS, even though objectively they weren't the best of the genre. Maybe I'll give this a go after I finish LM2. One thing: how quick is it to restart a mission? Because I can see myself not letting a single soldier die. |

| You can normally suspend mid battle and then you can reload your hard save, if not that as quickly as the game loads, I've mainly played it on Cube and Wii with a reset button.
I've never really got into Advance Wars myself, I really should give it a go some time. |

Having soldiers die is part of the fun of FE in my eyes. That's what sets it apart from other Strategy RPGs, the fact that if you cock up you lose a unit for good. Although I fully understand the desire for a perfect run! |

| I must confess I'm a regular restarter, if it's a long mission I might let someone die, but not if they're one of my top 5 dudes |

| But, but, but what if they get really strong later on, or if they have good cut-scenes, or... or... I might just get this later than everyone else and ask the forum who's worth keeping. Looking forward to using Frederick, anyway. |

| Oh, if they're one of my top units then I restart for sure.
And as for Fred... he's known as Jagen archetypical unit, which in layman's terms means he's a really powerful unit you get early on who gets very little experience if you use him, which hurts the development of your weaker units. The weaker units end up surpassing a Jagen archetype anyway. Although, the wiki article said he's pretty useable anyway! |

| There's an easy mode, I'm aware, where units don't die... but that defeats the point! |

| Mod? I'm no mere mod. And I admit that I absolutely suck arse at turn-based strategy games. |
