Got my copy over a week ago, haven't put it in the Wii U yet! |

| Well tear yourself away from Shuffle for half an hour and give it a go! Last time I whispered it. This time I'm going to say it slightly louder. I'm at about the halfway point in the game, and I can safely say that I prefer YWW to SMW2YI. - Reasons:
This may be under the circumstances I played the original in. I played it on GBA, on a smaller screen. The collectathon gaming felt cramped, the set-pieces might not have had a similar effect. (I also played it several years after its initial release. I don't see that as a problem. In fact, I reckon it allows me to say this less blinded by nostalgia.)
But as a slightly obsessive collector, YI's scoring system annoyed me. Get everything the course required in one go, and finish it with full health, or miss out on full marks. This was further compounded by the Yoshi games' irritating way of hiding stuff - invisible clouds and that. YWW, which allows you to only have to go back and get the bits you missed last time for that gold star, is much better in this regard.
It's also much prettier and has better music and all the other little cosmetic touches that modern tech. naturally provides. I'm pretty sure YI had the better level design, but not to such an extent that I'm missing it.
As for it being not as new or inventive as its illustrious predecessor, did it need to be? It's a good update of a good underlying formula. The problem with YI DS and (I hear) YNI was that they were bad updates. YI DS, certainly, threw in level designs and additions and particularly bosses that reminded me of a medium-quality fan-made Flash tribute to the original. I haven't felt like that about YWW. It's not revolution, but it isn't a shrivelled off-shoot of the evolutionary tree either.
KEY is still probably better, because I prefer its dynamics. Less obsessive collecting, fewer invisible goodies. But YWW is a good fun game, that's done a much better job with the Yoshi legacy than Arzest's limp efforts. |

| As hinted in a previous post, the collectible items are somewhat overdone. If people complain about N64-era Rare collectathons, YWW should be punched in its loveable woolly gut for the same reason. That said, it's classic Nintendo fun, just as it should be. |

| The 20 stamp patches are a particular pain. Does anyone else feel really guilty about leaving Poochy behind, e.g. going through a door without him? He's so cute! |

| I'm with Jimbob - the last level I beat was 3-1 (v. nice level, by the way). However, I've not played it for about five days. Just too gosh-darned busy. |

| Just spun through a couple of levels - 3-8 awaits. It's fun, it's pretty... but it's not new, I don't think. |

| For all my exuberance around this game, up to and including a Space Ark request, I've hit a wall here. It's the flipping collectables - too many of them, and yet I can't quite manage to forget them and move on. So yes, bit sick of this at the moment. |

| As I've gone on ive found myself much better at getting the collectibles, I think their placement becomes a lot more predictable. That being said I haven't bothered to replay levels to get everything, as long as Ive found all the Yarn Yoshi I'll be happy. |

| I've been coming back to this about once a week to try and 100% the thing. I know it's repetitive, but there's something primevally rewarding about the "all the things!" star appearing.
Also, can we talk about Yarn Poochy? If you don't like Yarn Poochy, there's something very wrong with you. |

| Oh, the stamps. Whilst some people are using them to make some properly lovely artwork, I seem to collect 18 or 19 of them per level most of the time now. Grrr! |
