THQ Closes - Assets Sold At Auction Empty

I hadn't heard about this until the sales assistant at my local GAME mentioned that my copy of Darksiders 2 (which I was trading in) would perhaps be the last in the series.

So, THQ has indeed ceased publishing and developing games, and have auctioned off all of their major franchises to other publishers. With the exception of Darksiders, it seems like all of THQ's main brands now have new owners, including Saint's Row, Warhammer 40k and WWE.

Nobody appears to have picked up the license of Holy Magic Century though. Think we could chip in and buy it? I've got 45p in my pocket...

I love how nobody wanted Darksiders at all, not even for basicly nothing Laughing although, there is talk now that Platinum's now interested in getting it really cheap. Already been offering to hire former Vigil staff, i think.

Not sad to see THQ gone. Sucks for the workers but with that mangement and their anti-preowned crusade and general idiocy, good ridence. Think Sega's done well nabbing Relic, also interesting to see how Deep Silver nabbed SR and also the Metro publishing rights and how EA got nothing.

I'm not pleased that 2K got the WWE licence, they just lack any experience in the genre (& no their sports games don't help them) I hope I'm wrong but I fully expect it to be worse than Yukes media efforts.

It would probably be to their benefit if they outsourced the development.

I believe that somebody new getting the WWE license is a good thing - I don't think THQ/Yukes could outdo WWE 13 for the old-school Attitude Era fans. WWE 13 is as good as WWE gaming has got since Here Comes The Pain. It's as good as it gets, as far as I'm concerned. At least you know Take Two isn't going to rush out any old bollocks, like WCW Mayhem.

Oh believe me I've wanted the WWE franchise away from THQ for the longest time as I've never been a fan of the SvR/WWE *insert year* games (though they can be fun in MP) & now it is.

Now I'm hearing it isn't confirmed who has the rights to it as WWE themselves have to approve it.

Give it to Spike Chunsoft Pls Dance

Who's managed to nab Saint's Row? Pretty sure that was THQ's top franchise, right?

Platinum Games are interested in Darksiders?

That has to be a good thing, right?

Definitely. They know their third person action games - Bayonetta was phenomenal.

Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that they'd do that sort of game really well, but no in the sense that Darksiders' charm is that it's a very American take on the genre and giving it to a Japanese developer might cause it to become a bit nondescript.

They could go down the route of polishing what already exists to a sheen; I know what you mean about the game leaving the hands of the original minds behind it, though. It's a shame in that respect.

I think it'll be a very good thing. The "up its own arse" bits will disappear hopefully.

The WWE license is the only one that really interests me and 2K sounds like a bad choice, I honestly can't think of a single enjoyable game from them, I'm shocked such a big franchise went to them.

Didn't 2K do Bioshock? That was a grand game, although definitely nothing like a WWE title.

I think they did actually, forgot about that one, not played it but I assume it is quality, the only games I think of when it comes to 2K is hockey or some shite like that.

There is a lot of confusion going on about the WWE licence & apparently, as I said earlier, no one has it yet.

2K were just the publisher on the Bioshock games.
