| Ahh Balloon Fight a game that should have in my opinion been in that top ten, poor show fellow GNamer's poor show. |

| We might of voted it into the Top 10 of just GNamer Members then we can blame SONM, but I know I didn't vote for it though. |

Aside from the GNamer Top Ten and the SONM Top Ten (which both make for interesting reading, I reckon), there'll be the full combined list. I've got my mind's eye on a few silly awards, too, and I'm up for taking requests of what people want to see of the results... apart from an individual's votes, natch. |

I think that might be a sacrifice that has to be made for a vote with any amount of tension over its first place. And it would only be that one game, at least for here - don't think there's a single other title that would definitely win a console/genre vote (apart from PH)? |

It might be simplistic compared to most of the other games that made list (also surprised by no Kirby as well) but it's still an absolute classic which still holds up today & for me when I think about Mr Iwata Balloon fight is the first game that comes to mind. |

| MK7 at 11, above XC and Metroid Prime (and MK8)? I'm appalled. Shocked and appalled. Unsurprisingly I'm more in agreement with GNamer's top ten. Same games, but a different order (GSC > EB in the Iwata games), and SMG not lording it over the others quite as much. If that's the end of the vote, a big thanks to Zero for putting it all together! Grand job - a difficult thread run with aplomb. |

| It was grand job of a difficult vote to run, to Zero - My Top 10:
1. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, GameCube (Executive Producer) 10 Points My favourite Zelda & Cube game, is now my favourite Iwata game as well.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, 3DS (Executive Producer) 9 Points This was a hard choice as I do think N64 when I think Ocarina of Time but the 3DS version is excellent and different enough to stand on it's own.
3. Super Smash Bros: Melee, GameCube (Special Thanks, I think he was a tester and helped balance it) 8 Points My favourite SMASH, which still gets played today at competitive level as it's that dam good.
4. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, GameCube/Wii (Executive Producer) 7 Points
5. Bayonetta 2, Wii U (Executive Producer) 6 Points The best game on Wii U also a hand in from Iwata maybe he was a fan of the first and wanted to play the sequel, so he funded it.
6. Pokémon SoulSilver / HeartGold (Executive Producer)(Special Thanks on Original, if you want to go for them instead which I think will get more votes)5 Points Iwata is more remembered for the Original where he help program Kanto in to Gold & Silver which still remain some of the best pokemon games.
7. Kirby's Adventure NES (Producer) 4 Points One of the first NES games I ever played and also finished, also looked gorgeous for the NES.
8. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, GameCube (Producer) 3 Points Could I get any more of a wild card entry of this cult classic GameCube game.
9. Super Mario Sunshine, GameCube (Executive Producer) 2 Points How can't you have a Mario title represented
10. Fire Emblem Awakening, 3DS (Executive Producer) 1 Point Made me take notice of the FE series.
Honourable Mentions Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, GBA (Executive Producer) & Super Mario Bros. 3 NES Classic, GBA (Executive Producer). Both fantastic games but I feel there tad on what would be now Virtual Console side of things that I’ve decided not to include in my Top 10 but still highly recommended playing in some form.
Didn’t make the cut but sort of Honourable Mentions The Last Story, Superb JRPG but it's not a classic like some of those in my Top 10. Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen/Red/Blue/Green/Yellow due to Gold/Silver being better in retrospect Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Classic game but like Kart, I would sooner play the games in my Top 10 Mario Kart: Double Dash‼, My favourite Mario Kart but I would sooner play a game in my Top 10 over it as no matter how good it is, it's still a racing game The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Couldn't justify having 4 Zelda's in the Top 10 Kid Icarus: Uprising, Great 3DS game but there is better on that console that really it should be right down on this list

| - Are we doing this? Alrighty!:
10. Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Nintendo's second shot at the "spectacle platformer" cleaned up a few of the first's problems. Better level design, superior post-game, fewer tedious purple coin challenges, no pointless power-up that's only used twice... Plus Yoshi, and basically more of the same. Blinding stuff.
9. The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - The best 2D Zelda. Blooming with character and depth (3DS game, geddit?). Shame about the item renting, but it did at least allow one of the best plot surprises in Zelda. (Then there was a picture of M. Night Shyamalan (sp?) saying "What a twist!")
8. Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver - The only "true Iwata" game(s) on my list. Sad to say that many of the games he was directly involved in just haven't aged well at all. But when they get brought up to date for the 21st century, like in this case, the classic moments shine through.
7. Mario Kart 8 - The best Mario Kart ever, extended through DLC done right. A decent battle mode away from perfection.
6. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D - Maybe a port of a non-Iwata game shouldn't make my list, but the original had aged beyond belief. This remake revived the brilliant design, and re-cemented its reputation as one of the Best Games Ever.
5. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U - Iwata was involved in the original Smash Bros., and heavily involved in Mêlée. This game renders them both obsolete, but it's fair to say that without Iwata's gaming assistance, Rosalina would never have been able to belt Shulk around the face.
4. Xenoblade Chronicles - "Behold the power of Iwata!" "Iwata's really feeling it!" "What a bunch of Iwatas!"
3. Paper Mario: the Thousand-Year Door - A once great series, reduced to ashes. But enough about English cricket: this is what future Paper Marios should strive towards. Forget SPM, burn PMSS in a fire, and reawaken the greatness that was the Thousand-Year Door!
2. Metroid Prime - Before the all-consuming purple, before Gandrayda, before Samus' baby obsession, there was this - a truly great home-console Metroid. Thrilling exploration, varied environments, a brutal and interesting arsenal, and aching loneliness. It's all here.
1. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - It could have been even greater had it not looked like something shat out by the CoD series, but this is really great stuff. The dungeon design. The items. Midna. And, to date, the only 3D Zelda that has managed an overworld that doesn't feel like an empty pointless void. Possibly my favourite game ever.
Three published comments. Decent returns. |

I think that might be a sacrifice that has to be made for a vote with any amount of tension over its first place. And it would only be that one game, at least for here - don't think there's a single other title that would definitely win a console/genre vote (apart from PH)? Hmm... see, I'd be against excluding it because the true winner of any vote would be up in contention. "Oh, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker won the best game of the Noughties vote! But I wonder if Super Mario Galaxy would have won..." I think it'll be better (and more surprising) once SMG is inevitably knocked off the #1 spot. As for the forum-specific results, I think I'm actually happier with the combined votes - a good representation of Iwata's entire career. Here's my top ten: - Jay's Top Ten:
1) Earthbound
On the day of hearing of Iwata's death, I spent a lot of time on Twitter, reading articles about Iwata's career or smiling remembering great Iwata moments from Nintendo's E3 conferences or Directs. What affected me most that day though was a simple screenshot from Earthbound - just a text box containing a few lines in Earthbound's quirky tone. The message, and I'm paraphrasing here as I can't remember it verbatim, said that everything was going to be okay and to keep on going strong. I think the message is from Ness's father to the PK boy wonder himself, but the context here was heartbreaking.
Iwata's involvement with Earthbound is well documented - Iwata swooped in late in development along with HAL Studios to help finish the game and get out in time for release. To me, Earthbound encapsulates Iwata's nature perfectly. In a time when JRPGs were fairly po-faced, focusing on grandiose plots of gods and men, Earthbound breaks the mould by portraying a journey of a boy chasing after his rotund next door neighbour across a warped caricature of America. It dared to be different - you'd fight hippies, trees, aliens, runaway dogs... you name it. It dared to be fun - Ness's adventure took him to an eerily KKK-inspired cult town, inside a man who wanted nothing more than to be a video game dungeon, inside his own warped psyche and beyond.
To me, that's Iwata. He's a man who guided Nintendo to some of its greatest successes in decades by daring to be fun and different as opposed to following the crowd. I don't think I'll ever play the phenomenal Earthbound without thinking of him.
2) Super Smash Bros. Melee
Iwata did a lot for the Super Smash Bros. series: this video sums his involvement up better than I could. I think my favourite Smash Bros. game is Melee. I spent hours upon hours trying to grab every trophy in the game, or schooling my friends with Sheik, Marth and Ganondorf, or laughing as we'd spend an eternity trying to beat each other on Hyrule Temple. In many ways, Melee was my gateway into Nintendo. I knew who Mario was, and I knew about Pokemon, and I was even pretty aware of Metroid and Zelda. But many of Nintendo's smaller franchises were unknown to me. Melee opened my eyes up to Nintendo, as I'd soak in all the information from each new trophy I unlocked. I've probably got Melee to thank for making me into a huge Nintendo fan, and as a consequence, I've got Iwata to thank too.
3) Pokemon Gold/Silver
Pokemon Red was the first game I ever beat by myself. Before Red, I'd have my dad come in and help me past a difficult boss or area, but Red was all me. The sense of pride I felt beating that game was overwhelming at the time, and my 7/8 year old self was unbelievably hyped for Pokemon Gold and Silver's release in 2001. The game blew my pre-teen mind. New Pokemon! Day/Night cycles! A whole new world to explore! It was everything I wanted in a Pokemon sequel. Imagine my face when I discovered that not only was Johto there for me to explore, but I could return to Kanto and revisit my favourite locations from Red and Blue.
I've got Iwata to thank for that again - his compression techniques allowed Game Freak to include Kanto in Gold and Silver. Top work from a top man.
4) Mother 3
Mother 3 is one of my favourite games (I really ought to get around to writing something about it on Gintendo). Without Iwata's involvement with Earthbound, there might never have been a Mother 3.
5) Super Mario Galaxy
6) Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
7) Metroid Prime
8 ) The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
9) The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
10) Kirby Super Star
I couldn't finish my list without a Kirby game, considering Iwata's close involvement with the puffball during his time at HAL.

| Disagree, because we all know that Galaxy would have won had it been included. No wondering involved. It is always the true winner! The alternative would be to do a top eleven and release the top three altogether, so there's no time for faux-suspense between SMG's announcement and that of the second place - although, like I said earlier, I understand why Zero did not do so on this occasion. ALBW superseded WW in your favourite Zeldas, Jay? |

| I just feel that it'd take away from the winner if Super Mario Galaxy was excluded from any future votes. Ah well, a discussion for the next vote perhaps ( prepares to vote Super Mario Galaxy forumite of the year). It has! Perhaps it's because it's fresher in my mind, but I really enjoyed ALBW. Considering I don't usually enjoy 2D Zeldas, I was surprised by how much I did enjoy this one. Good stuff. |

...
If that's the end of the vote MK7 and XC tied on 24 points; as MK7 got a first place vote, it moved ahead. Prime only got 3 votes all told. It is the end of the vote - I could only think of two silly awards, and they are these: - Zero's Silly Awards (better name pending):
Most Love For Least Reward: NES Open Tournament Golf
This got four votes, which would normally guarantee an appearance in the higher reaches of the list... 25th. Eww!
Biggest Fall From Grace: Pikmin 3
GNamer Forumites voted this the best game in the Wii U's first year. This time out, one person voted for it... in tenth place.
- My Top Ten:
1. Super Mario Galaxy (come at me, y'all - it's my favourite game on the list) 2. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door 3. EarthBound 4. Picross DS 5. Pokémon Gold & Silver 6. Kid Icarus: Uprising 7. Wii Sports 8. Super Smash Bros. 9. NES Open Tournament Golf 10. Mario Kart 8
Huge thanks to everyone who voted. |

| (comes at Zero - not like that, don't be revolting)Top work, as mentioned above. I wonder if Pikmin 3's fall from grace is representative of the Wii U's (debatable) lack of classic games, compared to the Wii and others? Pondering my Wii U collection, I can only think of two stone-cold classics on the Wii U, both of which will likely be replaced by the next editions in their respective series: MK8 and SSBU. Maybe Pikmin 3 and Splatoon, which I've barely/not played, qualify as well, but that still doesn't match up to Ninty's past consoles. But that's a thought for another thread. |

| Yeah the Wii U 3rd Birthday vote will be interesting one, you all know what my Number 1 pick is already from this vote but the other 9 is rather hard to pick from as it has some great games but to me part from that one game there is no bonafide classics as not to go over it again but the two that Balla point out to me aren't as good as there GameCube counterparts. |

| Good work, Mr. Jones. Seeing the full spectrum of games that recieved votes really affirms what I had hoped; that we'd see something a little different, and that we'd see folk thinking about their favourite games a bit more creatively. - Spoiler:
1. Super Mario Galaxy 2. Wii Sports 3. Mario Kart 8 4. Animal Crossing: New Leaf 5. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U 6. Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver 7. Super Mario Galaxy 2 8. WarioWare Inc.: Mega Microgame$ 9. Pikmin 2 10. Kirby’s Epic Yarn
...the top seven were undisputed, but I gave much more thought to eighth, ninth and tenth. In the end, I left out the first Animal Crossing, Chibi-Robo, Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island, WarioWare Twisted!, OoT 3D, the original Nintendogs and a handful of others.

| - My picks (with reasons) :
1. Balloon Fight - I absolutely love this game especially the endless balloon trip mode, one of the first games that gave me that "just one more go" feeling, inevitably always compared to Joust but just like that game this will always be a classic to me.
2. Super smash bros melee - Despite not getting to play this a whole lot in multiplayer I still spent an obscene amount of time playing it.
3. Balloon trip breeze (Nintendo Land) - Okay so I'm slightly cheating with this one since it's a game within a game but again I absolutely love the trip mode from Balloon fight, I was initially worried about the stylus controls for this but once I played it worked perfectly and still felt like Balloon trip.
The only negative is that it isn't completely endless like the original.
4. Kirby Adventure - Only ever played a handful of Kirby games so it's tough to pick so I'll have to go with the first one I played.
5. NES open tournament golf - Very basic in it's design but this becomes more compelling when played with 2 players.
