| Luke, Jay, Andy and Mas discuss their top five personal games of the year 2016, along with some honourable mentions and some very dishonourable ones. Unfortunately, Zero Jones couldn't join us and so we gave up on the somewhat cooler idea of opening our lists out to any games we played in 2016, including those released earlier.
Listen here!
I might type up the lists and add links of note and all that but I'm too sleepy just now. |

| Combat is pretty rubbish though, I played it before FE, Invisible Inc & XCOM 2 and I still thought it was naff. |

| No, no. How dare your taste even remotely differ from my own!!! - Spoiler:
Id say rubbish is very harsh, but it's fair to say combat is quite basic. There are only two encounters in the whole game that alter the terrain, event variety is low and the battles don't really have consequences, at least compared to the narrative choices. There aren't many characters on your team though so I suppose making them too eat to kill would've ruined things.
But there are numerous ways you can build your team, and the armour, health, strength mechanic is a simple but surprisingly deep system.
It's not xcom or fire emblem, but then I found the combat pretty easy, which I thought was ok because to me it was meant to be somewhat simple and chill.
I value story telling and world building on games more than most though, and I know a lot of critics were disappointed by the battle system. I was just happy to have a really nice world punctuated by some board game like battles every now and then.

| What I want to know more then anything now is what was Zero's list and what was in you guys list if you were allowed games not from 2016 as I did bring up what my only one would have been.

| I would have slotted in Trials and Tribulations at Number 3, personally. |

| Just wrapped my ears around this GOTY Special 2016 (you're going to have to have a GNamer Forum Podcast #13 at some stage, guys! ) and ended up with some #megalols at the #bantz . My list would have been: 5) Kirby: Planet Robobot; for it was pure fun. Not the most original 3DS game, given that Triple Deluxe exists, but the Robobot Armour was ruddy amazing. More than a set-piece, it was so liberating to be in it. 4) Axiom Verge; I got totally addicted to this, in a year where Metroid-likes were thin on the ground. Beautiful, creepy, powerful. 3) Swapperoo; the crazed match-3 that drained my phone battery more than any other game. Highly recommended for puzzleheads. 2) Pokémon Sun; they took almost everything we knew about Pokémon games after six generations of the blighters and turned that knowledge on its head. Going back to literally any other gen is going to be a pain now. 1) Paper Mario: Color Splash; Nintendo at its most purely Nintendo on the Wii U this year. Lovely to look at and listen to, with a confident storyline and much reduced frustration compared to its Sticker-y Starry predecessor. The combat is weak but even this improves over time. |

| A odd mix of games which only one was really a 2015 game and nothing older from ZJ, seems the anything you played rule wasn't really ever need.
I thought we have seen some sort of Final Fantasy or other mobile title of a old classic in your list ZJ. |

| I didn't use the 'anything you played in 2016' rule once I realised you guys hadn't used it, to be honest. I'm not sure I'd have changed it at all if I had, though. Anyway, would now swap Planet Robobot for Severed. |
