Nintendo I believe have since put out a statement saying adding via IDs are coming along with Social Media being a way to add people.
Like Drunka has said we are BETA testers, it seems.

Yup. It merely seems to be a way to make it harder to add your non-local friends. The parental side could, and should, be controlled through the parental controls app. (and there is no excuse for parents not to be aware of that now because the advert for it's ADORABLE ).
If Nintendo allows us to add people more easily and without noting down a twleve-character string of irritation (using, say, their ID) via the online app. thing then I'll see the method in their madness. Right now they're gibbering in a padded room and throwing Grimers around.

Sorry for the DoPo, but it's the big morning and I am EXCITED AS F*CK.
Going to walk down to GAME in ten minutes. It's an hour's walk, so I'll be there at opening time. Going to go with the Smash Bros. CD blaring in my earphones, to get myself well and truly in the mood. Or possibly the Zelda one that came with Skyward Sword. I haven't decided yet. Maybe I'll Switch between the- (is stamped on by the humour police)
But anyway. Then I'm getting the tube home. I hope it doesn't require charging before first play! If it doesn't, it's going straight in the dock (charged with crimes of being too much excitement for one technically-an-adult to handle), I'm lying on the sofa with the Joy-Cons lazily by my sides, and (after the system setup, which weirdly I'm quite excited for) we're launching straight into Zelda.
The Switch is there to HELP FACILITATE THE FUN

I am dead excited. My parents ordered it so I can't be impatient about waiting for my dad to get ready and go to Game with me.
I'm probably gonna fire it up in handheld and do all the set-up, then I'll open stuff and lick a 1, 2 Switch then hopefully I can get the Dock plugged into my family's ridiculously big TV and play Zelda until everyone gets home and wants to play party games.
I am also VERY BLOODY EXCITED.
I love binding,I live gnamer and I hope I 2017

It's slightly looking up today as it looks like Zelda might be coming with the switch after all. I have a feeling I'll be spending a good chunk of the evening on Snipperclips regardless, but damn do I need that game now.

I'm definitely getting the left Joy-Con issue. And mine were plugged into the console during the update. It's a minor gripe, but it is there.
But gosh it's a nice piece of kit otherwise isn't it? Hands are taking a while to readjust from the size of the gamepad/3DS XL, it's quite dinky!

My right Joy-Con desynced before I updated but I havent had any desyncing since I updated
It feels really nice to hold, it's just the right weight and texture and I was pleasantly surprised by the Joy-Con grip, it felt a bit small when I was just holding it doing nothing but when I actually started playing Zelda it felt pretty comfortable

Nah not even tried, plus if the only use for them is as an avatar then I'm fine with using the Metroid logo.

Sorry to jump back to the FC discussion, but: Yesterday morning I did think friend codes were a pain in the arse. However, yesterday evening I played 3 new games on Steam with my sister and her fella. For i]each[/i] game, I had to set up an account on that developer/publisher's website, even when it used my Steam account as an ID. Conclusion: friend codes are no worse.

For all my complaints, there's something rather charmingly nostalgic about adding friend codes (and I've chalked up yer men Scullion and as well). I just worry for the look it gives Nintendo more than anything else.
More Zelda you say? Oh g'warn then...

I've been using my Switch since about 10am this morning where I've now got like 20 friends thanks to Miitomo, Fire Emblem and Twitter (where I tweeted out my code which is 1592-0811-5133) and messed around with some games and control methods.
When setting up I had the Joy-Cons in my hand and I didn't put into the grip, I was using them like two Wiimotes and it actually felt rather natural. I don't know if its a size thing or a lack of cables as you all know I'm not a big fan of the Wiimote and Nunchuck.
Used them to play a demo of Puyo Puyo Tetris of the Japanese store and Dragon Quest Heroes II which I did is them with the grip, it is okay but I fond it is a little bit to small when all crammed to together.
Also tried Snipperclips demo which in one player sucks but got to play using one Joy-Con, like with the grip it's a bit odd but could get used to it and comfy after and awhile.
Then been using the Pro for about 7hrs in Zelda and it's a nice controller, it is very much like the Xbox One controller but without the naff bumpers and D-Pad.
UI is nice and simple, loading is quick, region free for eShop is great.
I can't find much fault at the moment in terms of a game system as this feels like what you can do on a PS4 in terms of UI and modern feel but in a handheld form.

Has anyone played in handheld mode enough to get battery life problems? All my friends now have a switch and are playing zelda and the regret of skipping a launch day buy is driving me crazy. On the plus side however we've played a lot of snipperclips and it's actually a really good party game with some really clever puzzles. Singleplayer is a bit boring, however.

Not yet! I've had a good go with the Switch in a number of configurations now. I did all the set-up in handheld mode, then I slipped it into the dock and launched Zelda. I had a few hours of that, with the Joy-Cons in a grip, and it felt as natural as any console I've ever played. It's funny, really: I was so excited for this piece of kit and I savoured taking it out of the box and rigging it all up and everything, but I knew it was doing it's job when it disappeared entirely and I was in Hyrule.
Then yesterday evening, my brother and I played some 1, 2 Switch in tabletop mode before tea, then the whole family played it on the TV. My brother and I did Snipperclips, and the Joy-con were perfectly adequate as pads for that.
Last night, I played a little Zelda in handheld mode before bed, and this morning I did some more of that and then tried it in tabletop with the two Cons. This is the only one that didn't quite gel for me. I think it was just that whenever I aimed, having motion in one hand didn't feel natural.
Finally, on the train and the bus home today, I played in handheld. I've never felt a journey go by so quickly. Magical! The dock is all hooked up, my Master Sword is on the Zelda shelf and my soundtrack is next to the hi-fi. I've got to make dinner and watch King Kong versus Godzilla, but then I'm gonna turn all the lights off, sit in a comfy chair and play Zelda on my TV until a stupid hour of the night.
Random thoughts I couldn't fit elsewhere:
Everyone was saying it's smaller than one would expect, but when I opened it OH MY GOD IT IS SO SMALL!
Despite being small, the screen is excellent and big enough I could happily use it as a handheld exclusively.
It feels like a really good bit of kit. Great to hold in every control method, stylish, slick to use... I can't imagine needing a DS Lite/ Neew 3DS style revamp.
Lots of friends added with little fuss! A couple of twitter types I've used friend codes for, but mostly sorted via Miitomo or people adding me. Lovely to fire up the list and see so many people I know enjoying Zelda.
Disappointed it didn't automatically find the Mii associated with my Nintendo account. Can't be bothered to make a new one just now, so I'm sticking with Callie. STAAAAY FRESH!

By now I imagine most of y'all will have seen this story, about how Switch Pro Controllers have a nice message for their owners inside. It's pretty cool. It struck me that Nintendo touches are usually in the software.

This is a bad idea. Take it from me. I managed to both be late leaving the house on Saturday, and missed my bus stop, due to battling with Bokoblins.
More seriously, it really is magical to be playing the latest, possibly greatest 3D Zelda on the go. That's just amazing when you stop and think about it. Absolutely mind-blowing.
