Yesterday I Bought (a bad pun) for 3!

Yeah, it being the ambassador edition N3ds the default plates were just a bit bland for me & these were only five quid on amazon.

When is the Switch getting menu themes?  I love the machine, but my gosh its main screen looks sterile.  Sounds it too, no music or anything.  The Wii U's menu music was great.

I'd even take being able to use screenshots you have as a background.

The Switch menus are slick as anything, really well done and functional. That said, I'd rather have wonky but fun. That's why I go for Nintendo.

Exactly that. I get why they launched with sleek elegance: it sells, and frankly it's easier when your last machine flopped and you're trying to rush a new one to market. But surely the time has now come to let us wonk up our sleek elegant banal dull menus. There are bigger issues, but this one does indeed feel very un-Nintendo.

Picked up a few things recently:







The first one in this book is All Quiet on the Western Front, which I picked up on DVD.

Oh and also bought a car - a VW Golf.

A car car? Like an actual car? Surely that's worth at least a 12 by 12 pixel picture.

I've not taken a picture yet and the advert for it on Gumtree is no longer live, but it's a 10-year old 2.0 ST that's more to insure than I initially thought!

Is that meant to be GT with a the 2.0 FSI, and guessing based on the age 2007 that the car is a MK5 Golf, I'm currently looking at these and other VAGs (along with BMW 1 or 3 series and a Volvo C30) at the moment but can't find much I like in my possible £3500 budget as most seem to be under my budget by a £1000-1500 but have done like 125k+ miles or they're over by like £2000k but done really good mileage.

I can't seem to find a happy medium which would be my budget.

Yeah it is. It's actually a 2005 model but 1 owner from new and 110k which isn't bad at all. Got it for £1300. Been looking at Astras and Focuses (Foci?) so was happy to find a Golf. It's my second car (have a Yaris as well but the wife will have that now) so going to be an adjustment paying for two lots of insurance/tax/fuel...

Looks good and £1300 is a great price, I may have found something for myself but waiting till after payday on Friday.

I've listed the WWE DVD's on eBay and put the PSP games into the collection all £1 each. The Wii was £20 and is in great condition and it's newer black one with Motion+ as I can't remember having Motion+ with my old black one that I bought on launch.

The Lady and I went to HyperJapan over the weekend. It's a big Japanese culture festival in London, that has a lot of Japanese culture and pop-culture going on.

And that means merchandise! Actually it... mostly means merchandise. You can get a whole lot of retro videogames, manga, and other things we're into here. (Including big swords, with the instruction, 'Come and collect the swords at the end of the show.')

So, in addition to buying three bottles of fizzy sake, one bottle of Japanese plum wine, a couple of delicious filled pancake thingies, and wagyu burgers (not actually all that great in my opinion), we got these:



DIGRESSION ALERT: Decent Nintendo presence there too. I decided not to play Super Mario Odyssey, wanting to play it for the first time when it parachutes into my hands in October. I thought about playing ARMS, to find out whether I'd actually like it, but in the end decided I didn't want to leave The Lady looking bored on the sidelines. They also had multiplayer games of SMK and GoldenEye and every incarnation of Smash, and you could get your photo. taken with a man in a Mario suit.

Also had some decent cosplay... and some borderline indecent cosplay. The girl dressed as Cid from FFXV really made me realise how terrible Square can be with their female characters.

Glad you enjoyed, Brother Balla. I was looking into going but it clashed decisively with holiday in Spain. I have my beady eye on the winter one, mind.

Definitely, sir! We can do a 'Videos Games' if they have anything to play! (Otherwise, er, 'Videos Shops'?)

Valykria a tough cult classic, tactical strategy rpg thing which looks gorgeous.
Infamous, a great action adventure game but I do think First Light is better.
The Division, no idea as Destiny was enough for me of the semi-mmo like games.

I got some Joy-Cons

I tried Valkyrie Chronicles back on the PS3 way back when I first bought one, didn't gel with me back then for some reason despite how weeb my preferences are.  Probably going to give it another shot at some point though.  


Picked this up from the mail today, and with that I now have every Cosmere book on my shelf! Well, until Oathbringer lands in november (anybody got a spare time machine?)

Yesterday I bought the skills of a wonderful plumber to fix a leak under the kitchen sink. He also plumbed in a sort of stop tap for the house water supply, which we have been sorely lacking. He said the original stop tap had sheared off (!).

On Friday night, a colleague and I were leaving work at some ungodly hour. He was lamenting that he'd forgotten his wallet, as we hadn't eaten for a good long while and quite fancied a KFC. I was considering offering to buy him some chicken when we found a fiver in the street!

Needless to say, we very much enjoyed purchasing some grub with floor money.

Floor money? That's good.

Floor money? It's like you were playing a video game or something!

It's my sister's 21st coming up. I bought her something useful and sophisticated, as befits someone completing the transition into adulthood.

(I'm kidding, of course: if that transition ever ends, I haven't found it yet.)

Spent a lot of time with The Division and really like what I played but I played most that with others so unless you get a squad together it might not be as much fun. Didn't pay much attention to the story either but the atmosphere is great, think they got that part spot on.

Unbelievably I strolled into GAME before work and this lovely lady was one of the two Amiibo on the shelf!
