I think I'll look to pick this up either in August (when I've finished my dissertation, hopefully) or September, when I've moved into my own house/flat and can guarantee a good internet connection, since online seems to be a major component of this game from what I have heard.

Hmmm... it's not Ultra Smash or SF0 bad, but it the adventure mode does seem a bit half-arsed. And I know what you mean about the difficulty spikes - you suddenly find you have to stop trying to play tennis to get through some of the things. Simple mode for multiplayer though, and I am back in.

| I've considered trading in purely because it makes me angry in a way only a few games can, the core gameplay is great as you'd expect but it can be incredibly frustrating at times and some characters definitely feel broken so unless they balance it soon I'll probably send it packing.

I tried simple mode online and I wasn't feeling it. I think the special powers make the gameplay really gripping compared to a traditional tennis sim and the feeling of rallying back these anime style blasts and special moves is so satisfying.

I'm still trying yo get through this muvaeffer - there's not much more "fun" than trying to keep a rally going with a tricky character. I see no option than to just play a regular game of tennis.

I gave this a proper go today and I'm not impressed. I'm sure it's great in multi-player, but to be honest I bought it on the back of it having a single-player too, and a few levels in I'm already sick of it. It's the one where the Piranha Plants spit balls at you, and I'm bad at it, and that'd be fine... only there's no quick restart, quitting throws you back to the menu, and the loading pauses are surprisingly long for a game I feel the Switch should be handling in its sleep. It smacks of cutting technical corners. Not impressed.

Aye, the single player was disappointingly sparse. I agree with the lack of no quick retry being a pain too - for some of the later levels and the trickier challenges, it made for a very frustrating experience. I'd probably have traded it in had the core gameplay not been up to scratch, but mercifully it's top notch stuff. If you ever fancy a few online games, let me know!

Would you look at that: the latest patch actually added a quick retry! While it smacks of a rush job at launch being patched later, which is not a Nintendo way of doing things nor one I particularly like, it may just be enough to make me give this another go... (continues playing Hollow Knight )

That's somewhat redundant for me considering I've rinsed the adventure mode of all its content, but a welcome update nonetheless, albeit a feature that really ought to have been in there from launch.

Huh! They actually changed it! In all fairness, there have been a few things Nintendo has "added later on" in the last 2 generations; this is the first one that I've actually had a problem with myself. I'll get back on this soon then. And then to beat you all online!

I look forward to the challenge, Jimmers! It gets tiring constantly beating Andy.
