| I think the most impressive thing I can say about Celeste is that out of it and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I prefer Celeste. It is my favourite 2D platformer and (I worked this out) my eleventh favourite game of all time.
I feel a need to do a big Celeste post somewhere else... |

| Bashed out the Mirror Temple last night and I'm about to settle into the next chapter once I've had a jaunt around the forum. I did like that level - more so than the windy mess prior - but I'm still yet to be properly blown away like you guys beyond being very impressed by how smooth the platforming feels. More to come. EDIT: Beaten Chapter 6. Absolute cracker. I got a little bit in to Chapter 7 but I'm leaving the rest till tomorrow. Top marks. |

| I can't say I'm too surprised to learn it doesn't live up to the insane hype it received online, including around these parts. I am very glad you're enjoying it though. |

| We definitely didn't help, did we? That said, those two levels are, to my mind, the weakest the game has. Glad you're enjoying it, anyhow. |

| The last couple of levels were brilliant, and I'm keen to go and tackle some of the trickier stuff down the line, but I'm done for the time being. I find it tricky to get overwhelmingly hyped about a platformer, hence why I've been a bit reserved on it compared to most of the gang here, but it's an easy 9/10 for me thanks to the fluidity of the platforming, the heartwarming story and banging tunes. |

| So am I, normally! 2D platformers anyway. But I'm glad you liked it, Jay - that's the important thing. |

| The greatest achievement of Celeste is the near perfect marriage of narrative theme to gameplay - the only other game I can really think of that achieves similar is Papers Please. |

Did anyone complete all the C-sides? Does anybody hate their mind? More levels for you!

| I'm nowhere close to finishing the B Sides, let alone the C Sides, but the knowledge that there is so much Celeste waiting for me is very pleasing. |

| I was reading a "games you should pass on in 2018" list that was pretty critical of this as a whole the other day.
https://gamebias.wordpress.com/2018/12/13/game-bias-10-worst-games-of-the-year-and-play-instead-list/
I don't really think trial-and-error platformers are very clever at all - you brute force a predetermined winning set of inputs (since the level design is intentionally rigid) that will kill you if you don't match it with the exact precision that its creator knew when creating it. It's much harder to make a tough platforming game that doesn't pigeonhole you into learning a very specific set of inputs to clear its levels. |

I wouldn't say Celeste is like that at all, not all of it anyway as after I beat it I've watched casual play throughs as well as speed runs and I've seen folk do parts I done a little differently. Speedruns are especially creative in how they zip through the levels taking paths I didn't even think were possible. |

| I skimmed that article, then wished I hadn't give the site a hit. Looks very much like it's slagging off popular games for the sake of getting attention. That they don't like Celeste, I consider a recommendation. |

| Ain't nout wrong with a good rhythm game, which is how I view those twitch fast platforms like super meat boy. I imagine celeste is similar. I've still not picked it up, went for the excellent into the breach first, but I'm still looking forward to this. |

| The guy obviosuly couldn't hack it and thought he'd blame the game rather than himself. To call it trial and error is an insult as well, some sections will take one person multiple attempts and another will do it first time, it's all about how the player perceives where the character and platforms/hazards are.
It's definitely the hardest game to not frustrate me, I know if I struggled it was never down to bad or unfair game design it was all down to me. Ignoring all the gameplay too it's totally worth playing for the story alone.

Smurf's absolutely nailed it here. Agreed with all of this. |

Yeah, agreed - the holier than thou attitude pervading the article had me rolling my eyes throughout. The bit about Mario Tennis Aces is mind-boggling considering that the author seems to be wanting a dry tennis sim with him bemoaning "basic tennis options". It's a Mario sports game. The part about MTA lacking perseverance is simply wrong as well - when you're playing against an opponent of a similar calibre, the long rallies utilising the different techniques are long, tough and ultimately satisfying affairs. Slag off MTA for the lack of a substantial single player, sure, but that game is a treat to actually play. |

Too late it's limited run games so it sold out within 2 minutes of going live You can preorder the standard physical edition though so I'm glad they're doing that (I think I'm going to get it too) I'm in for the new levels too! I also did all the C-sides B) (I didn't get the strawberries for completing each level without dying though... god no) |
