I Want To Vote The Very Best . . . Pokémon Game

There's a list in the OP Athers. I'm with you on Platinum, but we've had that debate and the host's decision is, of course, final.

There are definitely arguments for splitting third versions, but with such a small voting pool I didn't want to split up the votes so much.

I guess the only thing you could do is take it all into consideration and if Diamond and Pearl were 10th but Platinum is 1st maybe place them together in at 4th or something as you do say it feels like a Game of the Year Directors Cut Edition which still is an enhanced version of what was there.

Just vote the game you like in the position you want it to be in and don't worry your pretty little toushe about something you don't rate receiving undue credit. The comments will be there for everyone to read, after all.

Chucking this thread a sticky as we approach the deadline. My votes are nearly done - the deadline crept up on me faster than I'd expected - but hopefully pinning this to the top of the forum will remind the rest of the gang to get a move on too.

Urgh, I'd written out most of my votes only to accidentally refresh the page and lose it all so expect mine sometime tomorrow but probably a lot less in depth.

Ah crap, I forgot the deadline was today and spent the evening writing fiction instead of my list (not the greatest excuse, but my middle name ain't procrastinator for nothing. Heck the stuff I wrote was something I'd been meaning to do for over a week). I'll see if I can get it done when I wake up.

I'm pretty sure Drunka isn't running this vote with an iron fist or anything - can't see your vote being disallowed or whatnot!

Andy hasn't sent his and I haven't written mine, so if anybody else is hesitating, feel free to send something over. I'm going to be really wishy-washy and vague with my timeframes. I know all the people who love forum votes also love that.

I mean, I'm glad you at least initially set a deadline as a vague, nebulous closing date would have meant you'd never get my votes.

Balla's not wrong about that theme. Perfect theme for a perfect final boss, second only to Cynthia. I mean come on, what other villain team leader starts things off by sicking a feral Lugia on the player and then battles them with all three Legendary Birds. Yoda truly was the best team leader.

Speaking of that that's another reason I love the Gamecube games. So many of the stories revolve around the villains trying to grab the Legendary Pokemon, but here they actually use them. I remember flipping out when I first fought a boss that used Entei on me. Good times.

Even if XD wasn't given a first place it still avg 6-5th place that's rather decent.

I'm much like Drunka on this one as it came out late in 2005 and I was saving for an Xbox 360, and at the time I would have looked at the Cube as last gen or old as a 15-year-old with the new shiny Xbox 360 coming.

Now I do own it now on GameCube but haven't got around to ever playing it but like you say it's rather expensive and I doubt even picking up a Japanese version would be that cheap either for you Drunka. Sort comes back to a chat Jay and me were having in the Xbox thread, they're doing the best on being able to play old games, yet if Nintendo put XD out on Switch for £20-30 via Cube VC we'd lose our minds.

Yes, one was!  For the time I still think XD is the most impressive thing I've seen come out of the franchise.  What's more, it remains the only real home console proper Pokémon RPG to this day (Colosseum doesn't count), and it was so brave with it.  Definitely deserved more attention than it got: I guess that's reflected in the price now.

This is what a lot of the reviews said, I presume: 'It repeats a lot of stuff from Colosseum.'  Tripe.  I'd say about half, maybe more, of the areas were new to the game (along with none of the plot and very few of the characters, and one of those remains the best character in Pokémon history); and it did some really great things with some of the older areas.  Walking into Phenac City and hearing this was a phenomenal moment in gaming, and it played off expectations of the starting city from Colosseum.  Great for newbies to the GS games, even better for those who'd played Colosseum; and yet criticised for it.  Utter rot.

Can't blame you for not wanting to shell out for it now, though.  Apart from anything else, the magic of a fully 3D adventure has had its thunder stolen somewhat.

XD is one of my biggest gaming shames. I've started it about 4 or 5 times and it just hasn't clicked. Crazy considering I love Colosseum.
