Ah, I've not checked out the Gaming Historian but it did remind me of this brilliant channel which has a series called History Respawned. It's a 30 minute to 45 minute show where they take games set during historical periods and sit them in front of a historian whose expertise in that specific period to call them out in inaccuracies, shed light on the era or even praise the game for nailing a locale or time period.

Here's them checking out Assassin's Creed IV.

Oooh, that does sound interesting! Will have to check it out at some point.

Loads of these videos about, but they're all a bit too try-hard. These made me laugh though - there's some quality lines.

So I was watching random videos in the early hours of this morning & ended up with ones related to The Walking dead where I saw Ross Marquand do a very good Matthew McConaughey impression but he's also very very good at a bunch of other actors as well.

This is pure quality. Even if you aren't a Rhythm Paradise/Heaven aficionado, give it until 0:42 before you dismiss it.

This is a fascinating look at the kind of play I just can't get my head around. I couldn't play games this way, it'd lose all the fun, but I love seeing other people puzzle it all out.

I really recommend the other videos on that channel, specifically the World Record progression series. He explains things in a fairly simple manner meaning you don't have to be immersed in the world of speed-running to enjoy the videos.

Speed-running as a whole is brilliant and I think the amount of dedication to nail a speed-run is admirable.

That was fascinating; I saw it pop up on my recommended list, but left it; however Yotta's suggestion made me watch that again. I do get annoyed listening to speedrunners sometimes (as much as I love AGDQ and what it does for charity, they do sound like bleddy "railway enthusiasts" sometimes) but that is crazy dedication there.

One of my favourite things about watching a speedrunner live is when a run goes tits up & hearing the rage that spews from their mouths, I even saw a dude shut down his stream one time because of a failed run.

I get it, to be fair. I get the rage on when I slip up while doing a high score or time on my own; imagine doing it while an audience watches and you're trying to narrate.

Oh definitely! Plus you're talking to the guy who used to chuck wired controllers across a room as a kid but now I just settle for heavily slapping my desk/swearing a whole lot.

If you think about it, these speedrunners reset the game countless times trying to get the perfect run. That's got to get beyond frustrating eventually.

I just find it funny when the game doesn't go the way they expect it to, I've seen plenty of runs where something unexpected happens but the runner powers through and makes it up the time else where. Those are usually my favourite kind as well.

I was captivated watching this - you'd think they'd learn after a while!

My favourites are the caravans and stuff that do just about make it through, but some accessories get shaved from the top. I could imagine someone just carrying on and not noticing properly until they reach their destination.

I think it's the lights that are getting knocked off, so they'll get a lovely surprise come night-time when they've pitched up somewhere for the evening!

I like how the person who put that together got bored at one point and just spliced in a normal car crash.

That caught me unawares as I was looking out for an approaching truck or caravan.

They were immensely satisfying, but thinking about the jagged metal edges makes my skin crawl.

Literally the best series of adverts ever produced.
