Had these waiting for me when I got back from work:
I’d forgotten about ordering the N64 Encyclopedia. Though it's a £30 book I got for a big saving, so I'm happy enough with that. It’s just the same as his other ones, but this time for the Greatest Console Of All Time.
I’ve never bothered with Super Rare games before, or any of these limited run types of thing. A Short Hike was utterly irresistible though, it was truly magical when I played it and I’m more than happy to have it physically. It'll definitely be getting played.

I've got the NES and SNES books, they're nice for a little read with a cuppa now and then. I'll add the N64 one to my Amazon list and probably get it for a Christmas or Birthday somewhere down the line.

Are the books good? I've had no interest in them because I like Scullion for his slightly sweary humour rather than his encyclopaedic knowledge, and I figured the books swayed a lot towards the latter.

They have a little character. I've never found Scullion to be the most hilarious, but pleasantly readable, and these fit that. It isn't like reading a wikipedia article or a back-of-the-magazine directory, more like a fun ONM retro feature. If the stars align and my mood is just right, sitting down and reading a few pages does feel like I still have new issues of the old Nintendo mags I loved so much.

I’m undecided if I think Chris Scullion's books are good or not. It’s clear that he’s played all the games featured and spent time with them, but the entries are only mildly informative and offer little in the way of his personal perspective. That's definitely true about the N64 one. Fair enough if he doesn’t have much background with Indy Racing 2000 or Mahjong 64, but what’s written about those isn’t much less descriptive of what’s here for Diddy Kong Racing for example.
There’s no swearing in the N64 book if that’s what you’re into, and no N64 Magazine-style horsings for Carmageddon 64 it’s likeness. There’s occasional humour to found though. One thing that’s made me smile is that all his screenshots for club football games show Celtic scoring a goal against Rangers. That’s a sort of pettiness that I can get behind.
Buskalilly says it best. “Pleasantly readable” and “they’re nice for a little read with a cuppa now and then”.

Here’s all the physical Switch games I’ve bought in the last month:
The top row of games were all day-one purchases. I’m done with Pac-Man, nearly finished with Two Point Campus and saving the Cowabunga Collection for other times. I can see me just heading online occasionally with Splatoon 3, I wasn’t that into the single player campaigns in the last two.
The bottom row has a German copy of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, which I randomly picked up on Amazon.co.uk for something like £5.19. It’s fully in English, so it’s a decently bargainous buy. I’ve got no idea why I bought Balan Wonderworld again, I guess I was just surprised to see a physical Switch game for under a fiver. Stubbs The Zombie was only about twelve quid, I might get round to it at Halloween time.

My SteamDeck came on Wednesday, not had huge amount of time with it because work and modern gaming like it wanted to do an update, then you got to wait for the games to download etc. Why I used to like midnight launches, could put the console on overnight to update, download games then just play the game.
Had DioField turn up for Switch today and traded in some bits in CEX which I got MUA3 (Did anyone place this?), also for Switch.

A house! Well not yesterday but last Friday after months of issues and delays we finally got a second floor. Still got plenty to do and trying to uncover all the odd things left behind (a doorbell in the cupboard under the stairs, a box full of dodgy looking VHS tapes and worst of all Man United posters) is a task within itself.
Anyway excited to finally have a bit more space and to not have the stress of buying a house for a few years at least.

That's good done as I saw a mortgage advisor a few days ago and bad time because of the interest rates but then on about how house prices might fall because of that.

I have been off this site for a bit, mostly from being busy with work, but also because I picked up a Series X and joined the next gen (or is it current gen?). A combination of a good offer, Resi 4 and Dead Space at the start of 2023, and tired of waiting for a new Switch. I echo what Mas said a few posts back about the Steam Deck - I didn't anticipate just how much needs downloading/updating. Spent a whole weekend installing a copy of Gears of War 5, mostly because my Internet is shite (100GB download took two days). However, once I was up and running I was very impressed at just how pretty, smooth, and fun Gears 5 is. Particularly for a 2019 game - I am excited about the true next-gen stuff. Also picked up the Halo Master Chief collection but that's a download for next weekend

Be tonnes for you on Game Pass to keep ya busy and the Xbox One/Series often cheap for physical games if ya want to go that way, unfortunately most you have to download them still.

I absolutely lucked out with the timing of it, still had to pay stamp duty which was cut the very same day the sale went through but considering interest rates have more than doubled since we got the agreement then I'm not gonna complain.

I'unno you guys, we waited 2 COVID years for our mortgage to be accepted, and then the tree outside was like "and now time to subsiiiiiiiiide-a-go-go-baby!" - a bit of an anti-climax.

Please don't remind me of this. I can't even enjoy the reduced stamp duty, however much it'll benefit me, because it's a tax cut from this bunch of shysters.

Why buy a house when your money can clearly go much further buying computer games from fifteen year ago?
From a recent jaunt to Cash Generator, it looks like my local shop is clearing out all their seventh gen stuff. Maybe I’ll have a closer look at the 360 games next time, but everything on Wii was either £11.99 (good first-party games), £5.99 (good third-party games) …or 20p (tat)
In fairness there’s some all right stuff in there - a few games that I’ve gladly re-added to my collection, and a few others that I’ve got big 2007 nostalgia for as well. The stuff I left probably isn’t worth a flutter at 20p to be honest…
Same type of thing with the DS games. That copy of Brain Training was £2 but it's sealed, everything else was 50p.

I want to know what you left that wasn't worth 20p now. Boom Blox was meant to be quality IIRC.

Just before I visited the UK, my friend Amelia mentioned that she;d never played a Pikmin game. I got into my head that I could pick her up a copy as a nice little present but then I walked into CEX and saw they were wanting £50 for it.
Anyway, last weekend I was in Nagano's big second-hand game shop and I saw a Japanese copy for 600yen. That's less than a fiver. Despite already owning it in English and despite the fact that I love the writing, which I probably won't appreciate in Japanese, I bought it out of spite. In other news, I popped into a shop on the way home from my run this morning and bought these two beauties: I'm excited to get stuck in, although I almost wish I'd waited until now to buy 1&2 so I could get the gorgeous trinity collection. I'm a little bummed out not to have a physical Bayonetta 1 on Switch, because look at this lovely Platinum collection:
With the way the economy's going, it's a good time to put all your money in precious metals:
I'll tell you what I haven't bloody bought yet: Midnights. It came out late in Japan and Nagano doesn't have a decent record shop.

If eBay, Price Charting and CEX said you should jump off a cliff for Pikmin . . .
