Goldust was in a match where if he won Cody Rhodes got his job back. He came in, cut a very good promo more in character as Dustin Rhodes than Goldust and then went out and put on a great match with Orton. He was fired up, and landed the same RKO into Cross Rhodes reversal that Cody did last week - I thought Goldie had it there, same as I'd thought with Cody the week before. I am a shameless mark.

Sidenote. I don't want WWE to re-employ Dustin Runnels (again!) Good performance on Raw aside, it'll be the same old story, the fan response will die off pretty quickly, and then he'll be shunted to Superstars and Saturday Morning Slam (if that still runs, and if he passes the criteria for that show).

Getting closer to doing a Swiss Airplane Spin Cesaro could have kept going for longer too
Aye but that was only on the 4 foot grizzly redwood anyhow was that Luke Harper (from the wyatt family) that Daniel Bryan was beating up in the background?

So Jim Ross has been binned-off by WWE for something someone else did. He got the blame for failing to control Ric Flair during the Q&A session over SummerSlam weekend, WWE Logic at its finest here.

Giant Bernard was NJPW's top gaijin for a while. It's quite strange to see how far he's fallen - that Lord Tensai gimmick was rubbish, but so was Matt Bloom's ring work.

More evidence to support the belief that Jim Ross was fired by WWE, on his recent UK Q&A tour he said that he had no plans on retiring, and that the day he left WWE would be the day they bury him.

Night of Champions then, a pay-per-view which I think has gotten in the way of WWE's current long term plans, and a show they could have done without staging. Can't see many title changes or surprises tonight, but the matches lined-up should deliver.
Daniel Bryan VS Randy Orton should be a cracker, two of WWE's best performers in recent months, looking forward to that one, even if it's inevitable that the result won't be clean, and that Orton will retain.
Rob Van Dam VS Alberto Del Rio should be a good match too, despite the slightly meh build-up. Lot of people thinking Ricardo Rodriguez will turn on RVD at some point, I guess thats possible given that RVD is only signed up for the short term, wait and see I guess.
Can't get excited about CM Punk VS Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel at all, think this feud should have stopped at SummerSlam, partly because this doesn't feel as big as Punk/Lesnar did. Interested to see if Punk does get his hands on Heyman or not. For some reason I think Heyman will do a runner, and Punk will ask Brad Maddox or Triple H to punish Heyman for doing so, when they don't, that will give Punk a reason to get involved in the Bryan/Orton/HHH situation (that's my hope anyway).
Elsewhere, we'll see if Dolph Ziggler's dodgy booking continues or not. It wouldn't surprise me if he won the United States Championship tonight given how random WWE have been with him recently.
Prime Time Players will probably end up being the team that challenges for the Tag Team Championship, wonder why that is? I'd like the Usos to get the shot, but I can't see it happening.

I'd say the same, but I think AJ retains. Would love to see a Curtis Axel/Paul Heyman win against CM Punk, but doubt it'll happen.

Nah, not great. As I said the other day, felt like a pay-per-view they could have done without having. Two months in a row that Daniel Bryan winning the WWE Championship has caught me off-guard, and I've reacted with an "oh". It's a little bit like they've lost the moment with him winning the belt, they had the moment at SummerSlam, I couldn't get excited about it last night (partly because I think he's going to be screwed out of it tonight). So yeah, a slight off-day for WWE last night, I'll give them that, seeing as things have been pretty good lately.

I feel it's worth noting that the WWE YouTube page has been uploading some great matches in their entirety as of late, such as the 1992 Royal Rumble, Cena/Punk from MitB 2011, Bret/Owen in the cage at SummerSlam 94, Rock/Mankind from Deadly Games and Edge/Jeff Hardy from Extreme Rules 2009.
WWE also uploaded this under-appreciated great between Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio in 2009, which features one of my absolute favourite endings of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNXYa971uhU

I have to say WWE is on fire at the minute there isn't a show I haven't disliked in the last few months, the full (active) roster is also being used greatly.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Although Night of Champions was wank, and I'm worried that the proximity of Battleground won't do it any favours either. Although I will say this - the Rhodes family angle going on right now is utterly utterly brilliant.

This is one of those times where I wish WWE had less pay-per-views. The on-going storyline has to be shaped to fit a PPV, and as we saw with Night of Champions, the bigger events can fall flat.

Imagine if they found a way to keep the title vacant until Survivor Series, then hold another Deadly Games tournament like in 1998. That PPV is compelling, even though it's almost fifteen years old and everyone knows the result.
