Mods and admins!

Apologies for the rushed nature of this post, but if folks could be thinking about who may be up to become a mod and/or an admin for the site. Some extra pairs of hands would be massively useful, and multiple heads are better than one and all that, but I'd like everyone to have a hand in shaping the forum in some fashion. CVG this ain't.

I'd say I'm probably looking at an extra pair of admins and probably a couple of mods, not that modding is a huge job around here. Anyhoo, have a think, and I assume we'll need to arrange some kind of voting system.

Oh, and if it's alright with youse, I was pretty much going to reinstate sporkhead as a mod here, in light of his many years of excellent service. Balladeer with his mod experience would be another suggestion, but I don't want to upset anyone by not doing it properly. Assuming sporky still wants the job, natch.

(sits down, adjusts tie, interlaces fingers) I think I would be perfect for the job of admin. or mod. If you'd care to glance at my CV, you'll see that I was a mod. on some shithole of a place called CVG not long ago, and am still remembered fondly as such. Granted, that's mostly due to a "grass is always greener on the other side" philosophy and short-term memory problems among the CVG members, but if there's one thing we can all agree on, it's that CVG is harder to mod. than here!

I'd also like to nominate Sporkhead and Phillips as admins./mods.: I don't think anyone could complain about Sporkhead's performance in the role back in good old NGamer (sniff), and I feel that Phillips should be rewarded for keeping the forum alive and his topic creation record. Plus he's always struck me as a sensible enough chap who won't change "GNamer" to "Gnu-mer" on a slow news day.

I've got no problem with any of the above names being in a position of power. Would guess we don't need many moderators seeing as we've self-moderated ourselves for years. I'd offer to help out with that sort of stuff, but I wouldn't have any idea what I'm doing, and there are many others who do know what they're doing.

Gah! This is why I hate having to name drop. Everyone is worthy, and Phillips is another impeccable contender for all his contributions. Right, I will stop attempting to dig myself a deeper hole and shut my yap.

I have no problem with the suggestions. Despite previous experience of modding over on ONM, I won't put my name up. I'll just be a common skivvy round these parts

I have spent a full hour trying to find an option to allow people to post links right from the off. As far as I can see, there is no option at all. I've managed to find a few other useful things in that time (including that stupid topic title character limit), so it's not all wasted.

Anyway, the long and the short of it is this: I've assigned Balladeer as an admin. It would be great if he could be allowed to crack on with his excellent music thread without hindrance, and I would hope that an admin would be allowed permissions to post a link. If anyone has any beef with this, please say, but as it stands we have Balla on hand too now. I'll leave it a little longer before to allow other opinions to filter in, and then we'll see where we go from there.

As for you guys who can't post links, I can see no option to override this. If Balla can find the option he's most welcome to tell me how to do it, but if everyone could basically sit tight until this time next week and the forum will be in full swing proper.

Really basic workaround for links. Post them with two "W"s instead of three - like I did in the Eshop thread.

I would never have known to do that.

You must be kidding! I'm the sort of mad bastard who'd ruin this forum! I'd do stuff like that every visit! No, I wouldn't think making me a Moderator would be a good idea, though I do nominate myself for the position of Mayor Of Crazyville.

Well, I'm glad you guys are happy with things the way they are. I'm also happy to report that sporkhead will be joining the Mod Squad here, though this time he'll be an admin and not a global moderator.

May I put myself forward as a candidate for moderator-hood? I have no previous experience but I'd really like to give it a go.

Okay, some things that make me think I'm not an admin.:

(a) My name isn't appearing in red at the bottom of the forum;
(b) I can't see any "admin. control panel" like I think was mentioned;
(c) I still get the "can't post links" message.

Any help, Stu?

I've just fixed it!

Turns out that, stupidly, there are two entirely independent pages dedicated to permissions. The first of those pages seems to do sod all if you upgrade a user; the second option works. You are now RED.

Well at least we can finally put that subject to rest. You might make this admin thing yet.

Wouldn't mind moderating the PC and Steam section. I know the forum will mainly be Nintendo Oriented, but if I can manage the PC section it'd make things a bit easier for the rest of you.

I wouldn't mind being a mod, but as I wasn't active on the old site and most of you only know me through twitter then I don't mind. c:

Thanks for the feedback, guys! With sporkhead and Balladeer approved (and Xelviar on PC forum), we have our current quotient of mods, but we'll be sure to let everyone know if and when further posts will be available in the future.
