Nice review, Cube! I'll definitely be picking the 3DS version up before the end of the year.

Agreed with TCK here. People seem to expect perfection from a new Sonic game, bafflingly, knowing full well they're not going to get it. Go along for the ride and this game is a lot of fun. I'm up to Frozen Factory now (World 5), and some of the levels have felt as grand as Galaxy's scattered planetoids. A touch on the easy side up to now, but still: good fun.

Sonic is about going forward very fast, if it's not like that then I'm in the dam you SEGA camp but I've been saying dam you SEGA for a while now. Just bring us Shenmue III you idiots.

One thing that's surprised me about Lost World is the lack of speed. Even when you hold down the run button - and yes, it does have a run button, just like Super Mario 3D Land - Sonic doesn't seem particularly fast. Sonic himself controls erratically, come to think of it; you just don't know how things will work out until you try them.
I think the opinion out there so far is generally a bit harsh. It's really not as terrible as some have made it out to be. It's mixed, but from what I've seen so far there's more to like than dislike.

Sonic seems a lot slower in 2D mode, I've noticed. On more than one occasion I've caught myself subconsciously tapping ZR to make sure I had it pressed down.

This was only ever a "maybe when there's nothing else" game. Is it at least that good?

Two days in, I don't regret buying it. And so far I've spent more time on it than Pikmin 3...

Found this on another forum. Some hilarious GIFs from GameSpot's video review which shows they're completely incapable of playing platformers. (They rated it 5/10 for being too hard.) LOL.

On the flip side, here's someone who's really good at both the Wii U and 3DS version:

While I don't want to defend those GIFs as they're pretty terrible, it does have to be said that those sorts of things happen annoyingly often in Lost World. It's full of jumps that you'd successfully make in Unleashed, Colours or any other Sonic game, but only to see your momentum not quite carry you over, and thus fall to your death. While these jumps and running up walls can be really annoying, other stuff (such as the new spin dash and the kick attack) are really well done.
I'd definitely say this is closer to what ONM gave it (80%) than what EuroGamer and EDGE gave it (4/10). That said, I had expected this to be one of the best games of the year.

I don't understand why everyone thinks this game is so hard. I've made it all the way to Silent Forest so far and though I've had quite a lot of game overs, most deaths were caused through hastiness and general stupidity.
I've also noticed that Wisps have mostly disappeared by this point in the game, and I don't miss them.
EDIT
Cube: Those speed-run videos were ace!

I find it bizarre that most of the folks who are denouncing the low sonic lost world reviews are just saying "the reviewers are bad at the game lol" how about you tell us why you think it it's good instead. (Thankfully you guys here have done just that)
Sidenote: Also folk forget that 5/10 = average game that's let down by some design flaws.

One thing I have to say - that Deadly Six edition Nights-inspired DLC level is amazing.

I bought this game the other day despite the luke warm reviews as i had some money off loyalty vouchers to spend and i'm happy with it so far. I would go as far to say it's my favourite of the 3D Sonic games i have played (Adventure 1 & 2, Unleashed and Generations) since you can skip the cutscenes and don't have to play as Amy, Tails, etc. I lost my love for Sonic once Sonic Team decided to give him a punk ass kid attitude and a bunch of annoying friends and if you jump straight to the gameplay, it very much feels like a straight forward A to B as fast as you can return to form.
What i like best about Lost World is the time trials and the fact they have online leaderboards. That guarantees me a load of replay value and a challenge to go for. At first i was a bit unhappy with the speed in which the floor beneath you rotates but i'm getting used to that now. As for the reports of it being slower i can honestly say that i have no problem with that. Using the charge spin jump spin technique it seems fast enough to me unless you hit an obstacle. There's certainly enough speed to punish ill-timed jumps with certain death in the void below.
I'm still early on in the game so my opinion may change but so far i'm very happy with it. Whether it has the legs to keep me playing, time will tell.

For those of you on the fence about this, it might be interesting to know that SEGA have released a free downloadale patch for the Wii U version:
Today, we are pleased to announce that a new patch for the Wii U version of Sonic Lost World will go live soon, and will be available for free download!
This patch adds a number of improvements and changes. Please find the full list of updates below:
Gameplay Updates:
• Collecting 100 rings will now grant the player an extra life. • In the event of a Game Over, we have doubled the amount of lives the player will begin with when continuing. (From 5 to 10) • The Indigo Asteroid, Crimson Eagle, Orange Rocket, and Black Bomb Color Powers can now be controlled using the analog stick and buttons. • Fixed a rare graphical issue that would sometimes appear during the pinball section of the Frozen Factory casino area.
Additional Updates:
• When completing the NiGHTMARE DLC, users will be notified that they can re-play it after scoring 100,000 points. • Items will now appear on the world map.
We hope you all enjoy the new updates to the game. As always, thank you for your feedback!
Some fairly big changes there. Three of the worst aspects of the game have been sorted out by the first three gameplay updates, and the additional updates should prove quite useful. What I'm trying to get at here is that this is suddenly a much more attractive proposition. These are all positive changes, and certainly will make me look at the game in a more positive light.

I played the demo of this the other night & I wasn't impressed, just doesn't seem to be any speed to it & the controls aren't exactly precise.

On the many years where there's no new home console Zelda, Sonic (usually Sonic 1/2 on repeat runs, or a dash through some Secret Rings with a decently levelled Sonic and the obnoxious music muted) is a Christmas staple for in our house.
That said, having not played the much praised Colours, and the opinions here on Lost World so divided, would anyone recommend Lost World over Colours, or is Colours clearly the 3D high point still? And do either have 2 player/time-trial potential for a bit of sibling Sonic rivalry to get stirred up? (Lost World looked good in this regard!)

Having played both Colours and Lost World extensively, I feel I can chip in here. Simply, while I feel that the gap between the two is closer than some would have you believe, I've still got to say that Colours is the better of the two. I recommend both, but where Lost World is a 7 (or a 7-and-a-half) out of ten, Colours is a solid 8.
I've never actually played the multiplayer in either, though I'm led to believe that it's co-op only. Maybe someone can correct me?

While Colours and Lost World are pretty fun, I personally preferred Sonic and the Secret Rings. I know I'm in a minority there, that game really "clicked" for me, and felt like its own game that knew what it was doing.

I actually though Secret Rings was ok too, although I already played through it a while ago. It looked really nice, the idea of on-rails running-and-jumping course suited Sonic, I liked the Wii controls (except the walking-backwards-and-not-been-able-to-see twist thing) and the music...could be muted!

I looked up the multiplayer, and I only found reference to a co-op mode (that you have to unlock), but if it records a time/score we can always fire up a good level and race to be the best!
I think I will lean toward Colours, it seems the safe bet, and it is the cheaper of the two (for now!).
