| Yes, you read that right. coming out on the 12th of October. Plays all 3DS games, but in 2D! Has to be as pointless a creation as the Wii Mini. Thoughts? |

| I... what? I suppose this release is for parents of very young children, so that they can get hold of the simultaneously-released Pokémon games without their younglings damaging their eyes. What a niche market! I won't be investing. |

| Good to know that Nintendo's still committed to expanding the "For Idiots" branch of consoles. |

| I think Nintendo just held a Nintendo Direct without telling anybody.
I think it's a great idea. The 3D aspect of the 3DS never really turned out to be as important as we all thought it would be. It's good to have the choice like we do on the original model and on the XL, but I know a few folk who had been put off by the name. You never know, they (and many others) might buy this new 2DS.
On a personal note, I'm disappointed that we aren't getting a 4DS, which allows me to travel in time and play FIFA 18 today. |

| Dumbest thing ever, Reggie says it's for under 7's and guess at $130 it's quite cheap but seems so daft. It's basically a DS with better graphics now that isn't very portable by the looks of it. |

| You'll still buy one though.
My opinion: if this gets more folk onto the likes of New Leaf and Luigi's Mansion 2, that's great.

| Maybe it's £85 so add the tax it's £102, so £109.99 then in the UK, which is kinda cheap. So yeah might buy one if I see one cheap used or something and got the spare dosh. But this is coming out the same day Pokemon there's also likely to be the special edition XL consoles for them. So could be confusing when timmy's mom goes into buy it does she get a 3DS, 2DS, 3DS XL, or the Special Edition as timmy want's a 3DS to play pokemon so surely he wants the matching console. |

| It'll sell. It's cheaper and child-friendly, and it'll also generate a news buzz, hopefully widening the 3DS audience. The real masterstroke is that it's coming out on the same day as Pokemon X & Y- I see these things going pretty quickly on day one. |

| Ehhh... I don't really like the design. I love flipping a DS shut, and the slate-type design isn't to my tastes. I'll bet you it'll sell though, I don't see it being another Wii Mini. |

| Well that's the RRP then, can't find any where else though. Can't see it being much less as it's £102 from $ to £ including the VAT but I guess someone will try £99.99. Looking on twitter one of my followers has just been to GameStop preorder Wind Waker HD bundle and allegedly 3 Family's in front with kids about 5-10 were asking about the 2DS as they've seen it online. |

| Aren't there some games that actually use the 3D slider as part of the gameplay? Won't these just not work? |

| I think that that is specifically not allowed by Nintendo. By which I mean that the slider can contribute to the gameplay, but it can't be integral to it. |

| How would that work? I don't own a 3DS, and I've not heard of that feature being prevalent in anything during my lurking through 3DS game threads. |

| I think that the puzzle rooms in SM3DL are a good example. You can solve them by having the 3D up, and thus being able to see where the blocks actually are; but if you don't have it up, you can still solve them using the eye switches on the floor. And you wouldn't be allowed to develop a 3DS game without said eye switches. I believe that's the case. |

| Ah. That doesn't seem like a huge issue then - the puzzle itself is still solveable, you're just losing out on one way to solve it. |

| Wow! 2D games, this is innovation at its finest. I don't see it dong too badly, I'm sure some parents are still paranoid of the 3D feature making kids into rabid squirrels so this could work for them. |

| Well, I guess this is designed to hoover up the kiddie market just in time for POKEMON. It also helps that the price is very near the OUYA.
The only thing I have against it is that in Europe we have White&Red or Black&Blue. Why can't we have the Black&Red that's in the US?
Given the Pokemon connection, surely White&Blue would have been better given the inclination of the respective legendaries. (Wussy Deer thing - Blue - X. Evil Bird Thing - Red - Y.) |

| Using 2D as a selling point just causes branding confusion to the highest level. This reminds me of Gameboy Micro, except this thing is immense.
It uses mono sound. No word on how long the battery lasts. It doesn't fold over so the screens could get damaged. The ultimate troll to this thing would be if it is region free. Its like some kind of box. Other than price what is the point? |

I would expect that kind of comment from someone that's never used a 3DS, a 3DS without the 3D is hardly just a DS with better graphics, like saying the Wii U is a Wii with a tablet controller. I kind of like it, size wise it looks a little bigger than the XL flipped open which can't be much smaller than a iPad and there are people that carry them around everywhere, looks like it comes with a carry case too which does make it slightly portable. The pricing and the apparent sturdiness of it make this a viable option for some, especially the kids it's aimed at. On the downside it's quite ugly. |

| I've decided I like design of it which is a bit GB micro-esque but plastic instead of that sleak metal finish, but will I get one? Probably not. |

I think the screens being constantly open to abuse and the size of this thing makes it a little less kid-friendly than planned. |

I think the screens being constantly open to abuse and the size of this thing makes it a little less kid-friendly than planned. Dont think that'd make much difference tbh as my nephews XL touch screen is a right state it also looks like it could survive being thrown across a room. |
