| Unbelievable as it might have been six months ago, but we're now at a stage in the Wii U's life where we're getting more than one release a month! 3D World is on the way, but before that is the new Mario & Sonic Olympics game. It's inevitable that this'll become a part of my collection someday soon (it's such an underrated series in my opinion), but how about yourselves? Is there any GNamer interest in this game?

| So, consumed with Olympic hype, I actually purchased this. I'm actually enjoying it too, though admittedly, I haven't tried all the events yet. |

| I've had this for a couple of months now, and I quite enjoyed it too. Though I feel that the series should have definitely progressed a lot more than it has, it's still a decent game to get if you're on a budget. After Donkey Kong there's bugger-all else coming out until Mario Kart at the arse-end of May, this wouldn't be the worst way to fill a gap. |

| Bump!
The fifth game in this series - Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games - just came out on Wii U at the weekend. While youse have been out on the randan in Newcastle, I've been playing this, and first impressions are that it's surprisingly good. The biggest improvement is in the controls, as the Wii Remote waggling has now completely gone, and most sports just rely on a few buttons on one consistent type of controller. That's a really good thing, as Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games was scuppered by it's confusing mess of a control system. The 2016 version is much more reminiscent of stuff like International Track & Field and Athlete Kings.
There's also more polish and new ideas here than there has been in a while, and I quite like the back-to-basics, stripped-back approach that it takes to some of the sports. The new ones that have been added - Rugby Sevens, Beach Volleyball and Football - are the three best, and all the others are worth playing too.
This is a likeable, respectable effort. |

| That does sound really good but these games are at their best in local MP which I don't get to do a whole lot these days. |

Yeah, sort of. Did you ever play the football minigame in Super Monkey Ball 2? It reminds me of that more than Mario Strikers Charged, though the Duel mode introduces items, let's you charge your shots and takes away all of the rules. It's not as manic as Strikers though. ~ I've played this more today, and I'm still liking it. That said, my two main issues are the lack of challenge and the way in which all the menus, character interaction, walking about and loading break up the flow of the game. There's loading screens that last longer than some of the events. Still, once your past that, it's a good, solid game. FYI, The Game Collection had it for £28, and they're doing 10% off of all orders until tomorrow night. For twenty five quid, I think that this is all right. |

| I am liking the look of this, haven't played one since the original but it does seem like they've given it a lot more overall polish than past games.
Does it have online multiplayer? Definitely suited for local play but would be nice to have that option. |

| No online multiplayer, sadly, just leaderboards and challenging your friend's ghosts (OooOOoooo!!). That's a bit disappointing, seeing as Sochi 2014 has a few sports that you can play in online mutliplayer. |

Thanks for that - food for thought! I don't usually go for the games where the only real value is local multiplayer because I don't have enough nearby gaming mates... we'll see. |

| Three-and-a-bit years after the last Mario & Sonic Olympics tie-in, we're getting a new one on Switch in a fortnight: There's a demo in the eShop which you can download from here , and I'd recommend you do so - it's got a generous amount of content, with new events, old event and multiplayer options too. This is a game series I always get, and I pre-ordered this new one cheap months ago. It's not just me that's into the Mario & Sonic games, is it? |

| Let me punt this topic into Switch for you Cappa (you can edit the thread title if needs be (oh duh you already have )). It's not normally my sort of thing, but I might have been tempted to try the demo. if it hadn't launched during The Busiest Switch Period On Record. |

| I like the look of the Rugby 7's and story mode but early November is tad busy. December is rather dead though, so may pick it up then. |

| It looks ace but it's not on my radar just yet, I can see myself picking it up closer to the Olympic games themselves. |
