| I'm putting this here as it's about numbers as Jas brought up recently about Metroid being arguably Nintendo's 3rd biggest series behind Mario and Zelda, historically yes, but as some pointed out things like Animal Crossing likely bigger now.
Which brings me to why I'm posting here is, as you look at how Metroid has been treated over the years and people have always said it hasn't sold well and why it hasn't had that many games, to me that's what it comes down to and I've done some research on 20 series and these are the numbers:
1. Mario Kart 13.3m avg, Got 8 Deluxe on Switch 2. Super Mario 9.2m avg, Got Odyssey but a 2D Mario could do big numbers 3. Pokemon 8.2m avg (If you count as Nintendo and not the Pokemon Company), Ones coming in 2018 or later 4. Super Smash Bros. 7.7m avg, Nothing announced yet 5. Animal Crossing 5.7m avg, Nothing announced yet 6. Splatoon 4.91m avg, Just had the sequel 7. Zelda 3.3m avg, Just had BotW and Hyrule Deluxe to come 8. Mario Party 2.8m avg, Nothing announced but rumours of 11 for early 2019 9. Donkey Kong 2.7m avg, We've got Tropical Freeze to come 10. Mario RPGs 2.1m avg, Nothing announced in either series 11. Yoshi 1.8m avg, That untitled game is coming 12. StarFox 1.7m avg, Might be a while for this one after Zero 13. Kirby 1.6m avg, Very soon we're getting a new Kirby 14. Mario Sports 1.3m avg (Doesn't include Olympics), We're getting what looks like a decent Tennis game 15. Metroid 1.3m avg, Prime 4 is coming at some-point 16. Golden Sun 1.3m avg, I want a new one of these and looking at the numbers it sells well enough 17. F-Zero 1.2m avg, Same as above but has Kart killed it or because we've has Kart 8 Deluxe maybe instead of 9 we get a new one of these 18. Fire Emblem 0.9 avg (Pre-Awakening takes this down otherwise more like 1.6m now), New one is coming this year 19. Pikmin 0.9 avg,, Pikmin 4 has been MIA for awhile 20. Nintendo Wars 0.4 avg, Maybe if Wargroove does well on Switch someone will make a new one but I think intelligent systems are to busy with FE for them to do it
Looking at the Switch, Pokemon along with Animal Crossing & Super Smash Bros will be big movers of the Switch. |

Yeah, when I said that I wasn't saying it was the third biggest in terms of sales (because I find that side of games extremely boring) I was thinking purely in how influential the series is, folk get into games development because of games like Mario, Zelda & Metroid. |

| That's why I agree and why I said historically as I think you're right on about it being influential. I just looked at the replies and why would something like Animal Crossing be considered possibly bigger and sells is the easiest to measure but we've got things like Drunka posting about Splatoon in Japan, where you can how huge it is.
Just thinking after posting that and my comments about the Switch, most we've got or getting, do you think if Pokémon is 2018 would that mean something like a Animal Crossing has to be 2019? |

| They should definitely separate the two, maybe even leave a decent gap between them and Smash Bros unless it's going to be a deluxe edition in which case it should fit nicely alongside one of those. |

| The longer we go without SMASHED, the more likely it's going to be SMASH5.
I can sort of predict Switch for 2018: Feb Bayo 2 Mar Kirby April Labo, Mario Tennis May Donkey Kong June Hyrule July No More Heroes Aug Yoshi Sep Fire Emblem Oct Project Octopath Traveller Nov Pokemon Dec TWEWY
Which is decent but if Pokemon is the later bit of 2018 or later, it feels like a another big title like Animal Crossing or SMASH might be needed, unless Nintendo thinks Fire Emblem can do more than Awakening which did between 2.25 & 2.5m and a few other 3rd party exclusives like SMTV can make up for a a big hitter.
I do think overall it's better than 2017 but could be missing that GOTY type game. |

| Sounds about right that but there'll be a few more unannounced things in there I think, definitely a few months of more than one big game especially towards the end of the year. |

| Yup, yup, and yup. I do reckon the first half of this year will have pretty much what Mas says (maybe one or two more games, announced Directly to us), but from E3 onwards, all bets are off. |

| Hopefully but does sort of brings up questions for 2019 for me but hey maybe we can see likes of a new F-Zero, Golden Sun, Kid Icarus etc
Anyway, FIFA 18 is the UK Number 1 which sounds boring but it's Number 1 due to the Switch as you may have seen it's been half price over the past week which has coursed FIFA 18s sells to increase by 500% on Switch along with getting it to number one in the all-format chart and at Number 9 on the individual chart and Number 2 on the Switch Chart behind Bayonetta 2.
Seems people will buy a half assessed version of FIFA as long as it's half the price.

| This week's UK chart:
1 FIFA 18 2 Grand Theft Auto V 3 Call of Duty: WWII 4 Monster Hunter: World 5 EA Sports UFC 3 6 Metal Gear Survive 7 Shadow of the Colossus 8 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 9 Super Mario Odyssey 10 Assassin's Creed Origins
Some interesting takes on Survive, Eurogamer went with its a flop and compared to Rising another spin-off it did 85% worse than that, where's Push Square thought it would do worse and think the name has got it to 6th. In the individual chart, it has placed 13th for the PS4 version and 33rd for the Xbox One version.
On the individual chart, FIFA 18 on Switch is in 6th which means it jumped up 3 places but is still second on the Switch chart as Mario Kart 8D is now first with last weeks first Bayo 2 now in 5th on the Switch chart and 16th on the overall individual chart.
Number 1 PS4 game is FIFA 18 and is 1st on the overall individual chart Number 1 PS3 game is FIFA 18, not on overall individual chart Number 1 VITA game is Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified, not on overall individual chart Number 1 PSP game is Dissidia 012: Final Fantasy, not on overall individual chart
Number 1 Xbox One game GTAV which is in 10th on the overall individual chart Number 1 360 game is FIFA 18, not on overall individual chart Number 1 PC game is The Sims 4, not on overall individual chart
Number 1 Wii U game Just Dance 2018, not on overall individual chart Number 1 Wii game Just Dance 2018, not on overall individual chart Number 1 3DS game is Pokemon Ultra Sun, not on overall individual chart Number 1 DS game is Guinness World Records: The Videogame, not on overall individual chart

| Sure is and another good thing is to see Sony share the numbers of Horizon: Zero Dawn on its 1st anniversary that it has sold over 7.6m units which for a new IP is fantastic and the studio that just made Killzone up till HZD.
It also puts it about 10th on the all-time PS4 seller's list and makes it the 2nd best-selling exclusive behind Uncharted 4. |

The Top 40 has 7 Albums, 10 Games and 23 Films with the UK spending £7.2bn on music, video and games in 2017 compared with £7.1bn on books, magazines and newspapers (which was actually down year-on-year) for the very first time on record this is due to the dramatic growth of digital services from the likes of Spotify, Steam, Netflix, Amazon, Deezer, Sky, Apple and Google.
It's not just printed word that Music, Games and Video was big then as it was the biggest of every sector monitored by the Leisure Industries Research Centre including Eating Out, Alcoholic Drink, Holidays Overseas, and Gambling which were all up year-on-year as well.
56% of entertainment revenue came from so-called access models like music and video streaming, electronic movie rental or subscriptions to online multiplayer games, paying for digital micro-transactions and making in-app purchases on mobile devices.
Boxed software for gaming generated their first growth in 10 years – up 5% to £750m due to the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
Vinyl albums continued their long-term revival with sales up 34% to reach £87.7m.
Pretty decent for gaming and much like my post before this one great for PlayStation with 3 out of the 10 games being exclusives for now as Crash will come to something else and seeing growth with physical medium due to PS4 and Switch is great.
I would have liked to seen what Music, Games and Video generated on their own and not as a collective as all we know about gaming is a Top 10 and physical was worth £750m.

| Triple Post as we've got news that the Switch is/was the best selling console ever in a 12 months period in America which impressive considering the PS2, PS4 and Wii.
However, the wording is a console, as the GBA would still be Number 1 overall and I don't know if Switch would be second or the DS or whatever would be. |

| Quad Post as the Big N has posted financials which includes things like the new president and a few other changes like Koizumi being promoted as well.
On to the numbers and the Switch is now on 17.79m sold in its first fiscal year, which keeps it in 20th all-time systems but is now only 4m behind the GameCube, the 3DS is on 72.53m but is no longer in the Top 10 system od All-Time as the PS4 has moved into 10th place.
Games wise the million club for Nintendo titles now looks like this:
1st Super Mario Odyessy 10.41m, which makes it far as I'm aware the best-selling exclusive of the current 3 main systems as I can't find update numbers on Uncharted 4 which all I can find is 10m and SMO is going to have legs which might make it the best-selling 3D Mario as Galaxy is on 12.7m.
2nd Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 9.22m
3rd Breath of the Wild 8.48m, with the Wii U version, is the best-selling Zelda but much like with Capcom when they talk their best-selling games surely if they added all the different versions of Street Fighter 2 together that would be and surely if you added all the versions of OoT together N64, VC, 3DS etc it would be.
4th Splatoon 2 6.02m, Drunka can tell us how huge this is Japan, oh and it's the best-selling exclusive shooter
5th 1-2-Switch 2.29m
6th ARMS 1.85m
7th Xenoblade Chronicles 2 1.31m, Balla will be pleased
8th Kirby 1.26m, This I think shows the Switch has had a big game this year and this is the best month ever for Kirby but I guess you could argue that it sold well because of nothing else
Outside of Nintendo, also today Koei have announced Fire Emblem Warriors has sold over a million and sold more than DW9 and Namco also said Pokken has done over a million and out-pacing the Wii U version.
Basically, Switch is doing well and games are selling well on it. This fiscal year Nintendo is predicting to shift 20m units and got to think it would do it with a Fire Emblem (if a spin-off can do a million a mainline will likely top Awakening), SMASH, Pokemon without any announcement of Animal Crossing yet.

| Wow, I'm surprised 1-2 Switch has done that well! It's good to hear that there's so many Nintendo games topping a million in sales. - masofdas wrote:

Bad logic - the game's been out 20 years and has therefore had the opportunity to be rereleased countless times. "During its lifetime, it sold 7.6 million copies worldwide, excluding ports and re-releases"... so BotW's been out just over a year and has trumped lifetime sales for OoT already. I'm sure over a similar timescale with a similar rate of porting/rereleases BotW would still stand tall over OoT. Also, looking at Nintendo's financials shows that's just the Switch sales, no? So it's likely sitting at 10m+ right now. |

| Might be how I wrote it but yes WITH THE WII U VERSION it's over 10m making it the best selling Zelda at 10m excalty which still means Super Mario Odyssey is the biggest exclusive.
Maybe it's bad logic but with Capcom they will tell you Monster Hunter World is their bestselling game but I instantly think surely Street Fighter 2 has done more. |
