Still I think saying something about someone if you like or not, to take a gun and kill themselves even if its a joke is a bit much. |

| I reckon Drunka's unhappy purely because she's a right wing politician rather than anything particular to do with Brexit. A quick scan of her voting record (here) reveals that she voted for the Iraq War and doesn't want benefits raised (generally). She did vote for gay marriage, though. |

| Most importantly of course "Generally voted against laws to promote equality and human rights"
Think you're appealing to the wrong crowd with the national anthem comment... |

| I did feel that Drunka's comment about May was... a bit much, shall we say, although I don't like her much either. That said I will happily vote for anyone who won't sing our national anthem. It's tripe. |

I still think that is harsh and your political opinion which we should maybe refrain from saying such see on both accounts on a gaming forum unless its some sort of important news piece for the news thread. |

Monster Hunter Generations stormed through the undergrowth and burst out onto 3DS this month. Before taking on the biggest monsters, you cut your teeth on smaller, more common beasts. What's your favourite recurring grunt from a videogame? I like shooting Zombies, for some reason especially in Resident Evil 5.
The NX rumour mill has gone into overdrive this month as we edge closer to concrete news about the system. What's the craziest rumour you've ever heard? The female orgasm.
July was a pretty scary month for world events, but let's look at the better side of humanity. Tell us about a time you saw an act of human kindness. I saw some immigrants struggling to swim ashore. Some beachgoers ran out and helped them in. It made me sick.
Pokémon GO was released last month. What's the first thing you would do to improve the game? A filter on which children get sent where. I don't want mine mixing with the wrong sort...
Lady Layton was announced. Which game series would benefit most from gender-flipping the protagonist? I'm not a fan of this. Women should know their place.
Theresa May became the UK's second female Prime Minister. Which Metroid weapon would help her most with negotiating the terms of Brexit? The wave beam. Rule Britannia, Britannia rule the waves!

Lady Layton was announced. Which game series would benefit most from gender-flipping the protagonist? The Doom guy, so I could watch all the nerds cry.
Theresa May became the UK's second female Prime Minister. Which Metroid weapon would help her most with negotiating the terms of Brexit? I've only played one Metroid game, a DS one. I didn't think it was very good, which is probably more to do with it being a DS game. Shrug.
What I will say about May and Brexit though is that while she was pro-remain, she was nevertheless a senior member of a party which has perpetuated nothing but immigration misinformation, blaming Britain's problems on the poorest and most vulnerable, rather than those with actual power. They only have themselves to blame for the rise of Ukip's brand of populism.

No Man's Sky launched into orbit before plummeting into back down to earth again after it was revealed a lot of its promised features were missing from the final experience and as a consequence, the hype train came to a screeching halt. Has hype ever ruined a game for you before?
No Man's Sky is the most obvious choice for me as it's so fresh in my mind - I traded that in this week, actually - but besides that I can't really think of a time I was swept in the hype wave. I feel I contributed to some people being slightly disappointed with Undertale. It's still one of my favourite games from last year, but I don't consider it as one of my favourite games of all time any longer. Time has dulled my opinion of it, that's for sure!
Exams results were dished out and a nation's youth had to suffer the agony of waiting for those results to come in the post. Tell us a memorable tale from the exam hall.
I remember a piece of exam table graffiti vividly - it was a pessimistic cry of "oh god, I've failed, I've wasted YEARS of my life" and just below that, the bemusing "mcfly r a bit gay".
Phoenix Wright completed his first trial back in what was then seen as the mysterious month known as August 2016. What other fictional "future" dates in popular media are you looking forward to?
Marty and Doc arriving in the future Hill Valley as that'll mean we'll have our hoverboards by then. What do you mean, "they've already been, it was last year?" Then where are our hoverboards? Don't you walk away from me! WHERE ARE THEY?
Pokémon Snap came out on the Wii U VC. What is the best spin-off ever?
I'm struggling to think of an answer for this, but I've been pleasantly surprised by Fear the Walking Dead recently. It's a bit of a stretch to call it "the best spin-off ever", but unlike most spin-offs, I was glad to see it can stand on its own two feet without relying on cameos from the main The Walking Dead cast.
The Olympics came and went in a glorious blaze of medals all round. Which sports video game should be added to the Tokyo 2020 roster?
Football, but with a Mario Strikers Charged ruleset. Watch in awe as the intrepid German striker front flips, teleports behind the Spanish goalkeeper with the ball and scores. Scream in horror after the Italian captain rockets into the air, fires six flaming balls at goal and as a result dismembers the Swedish goalkeeper whilst scoring six goals.
Jeremy Corbyn sat on a train last month. What's your favourite form of transport in games?
Airship - the moment in an RPG where you get an airship and can fully traverse the world at your leisure is second to none.

'Ruined' is a bit harsh: the guys whose opinions I value the most are usually bang on the money. That said there are inevitably a few examples, the most recent of which is Bravely Second. It's a very good game - maybe even a great game - but it got a lot of hype on this forum and inflated my expectations.
Exams results were dished out and a nation's youth had to suffer the agony of waiting for those results to come in the post. Tell us a memorable tale from the exam hall.
The most memorable tale was my final exam in education (by this I am discounting my driving theory test). I'd been ill with the diarrhoea (sp?!) all day. I finished the final question a minute after the 'fifteen-minutes-before-the-end, so you can't leave the exam hall until the proper end now' warning and spent agonising seconds sitting there with the cold sweats. Never has this man run so fast.

In all media, it might be Frasier. In the great wide world of video games, it might be Mario Kart.
The Olympics came and went in a glorious blaze of medals all round. Which sports video game should be added to the Tokyo 2020 roster?
Speedball 2. Always Speedball 2. If they can play it for real, all the better.

The Excess Express, the train in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. So much fun.

| A Direct and a MtAT in a day! We're spoiled!
No Man's Sky launched into orbit before plummeting into back down to earth again after it was revealed a lot of its promised features were missing from the final experience and as a consequence, the hype train came to a screeching halt. Has hype ever ruined a game for you before? Lots of times. I'll give a couple of more controversial examples: I expected Super Mario Galaxy to be the best game ever, and was really disappointed that it wasn't. Too linear. And one that hasn't happened yet, but which is almost grimly inevitable: Dark Souls. I'll finally get to play it soon, but I'd probably be going into it with a more hopeful aspect if it hadn't been biblically deluged with praise already. All that said: I'd never opt out of the hype culture. Tone it down, probably; reduce the amount of trailers spoiling stuff, definitely; but remove the ability to get excited by a future game? Never.
Exams results were dished out and a nation's youth had to suffer the agony of waiting for those results to come in the post. Tell us a memorable tale from the exam hall. None really, being in an exam I was too concentrated on blazing through the paper/sweating my guts out (delete as appropriate depending on before/after starting university) to be distracted by others.
Phoenix Wright completed his first trial back in what was then seen as the mysterious month known as August 2016. What other fictional "future" dates in popular media are you looking forward to? 1984... oh. Er, 2000 AD... oh. I don't follow much pop culture outside games!
Pokémon Snap came out on the Wii U VC. What is the best spin-off ever? Great question. Do the Mario RPGs count as spin-offs of the Mario series? If so, TTYD by a county mile. If not, let's define this and I'll think again.
The Olympics came and went in a glorious blaze of medals all round. Which sports video game should be added to the Tokyo 2020 roster? Splatoon would be tremendous fun to watch.
Jeremy Corbyn sat on a train last month. What's your favourite form of transport in games? Wing Cap. Failing that, Yoshi. Failing that, the Barrel Train. Mario has all the best vehicles. |

Incorrect. - Spoiler:
No Man's Sky launched into orbit before plummeting into back down to earth again after it was revealed a lot of its promised features were missing from the final experience and as a consequence, the hype train came to a screeching halt. Has hype ever ruined a game for you before? Ruined is a strong word, as I loved the game to bits, but I think Dark Souls III suffered for being the first of the series I picked up and played through right there at launch, with my love for the series burning strong. It could never live up to its forebears.
Exams results were dished out and a nation's youth had to suffer the agony of waiting for those results to come in the post. Tell us a memorable tale from the exam hall. Myself and Muss sitting two tables apart. I had a massive gallon bottle of water and a number of straws, which I combined to make one long one; at first, long enough for me to drink from the floor, then later even longer so it could reach to Muss. We basically just arsed around for the entirety of GCSE study leave. It was glorious.
Phoenix Wright completed his first trial back in what was then seen as the mysterious month known as August 2016. What other fictional "future" dates in popular media are you looking forward to? Today, 1/9/2016, is the day Harry Potter's son starts at Hogwarts. I'm looking forward to the equivalent date for the filmic version of the characters, in the hopes they'll refilm the ending and make my middle-aged self die of nostalgia.
Pokémon Snap came out on the Wii U VC. What is the best spin-off ever? . . .Pokémon Snap
The Olympics came and went in a glorious blaze of medals all round. Which sports video game should be added to the Tokyo 2020 roster? Something free-to-play, since the Olympics are already causing massive overspending on the part of nations who should be concentrating on their own impoverished citizens.
Jeremy Corbyn sat on a train last month. What's your favourite form of transport in games? Any sort of hoverbike/ hovercar gets me. Halo's Ghosts, F-Zero machines, the various Star Wars ones...

Great question. Do the Mario RPGs count as spin-offs of the Mario series? If so, TTYD by a county mile. If not, let's define this and I'll think again.
I'd say they'd class as spin-offs - Super Mario RPG was definitely designed as a spin-off, and it's probably became its own thing separate from the main platformer series over the years, but I'd still consider it a spin-off. Re: your thoughts on Dark Souls - I'll be honest, out of all the games recommended for you to try, I think Dark Souls is the one you'll be least likely to get on with. Don't get me wrong though, you should still try it on the off chance you do get on with it. Maybe if you go into it thinking "I'm going to hate this, aren't I?" will help curtail the praise it's received from us lot over the years and then you could find yourself pleasantly surprised if you get on with it. If not, well... you tried it, at least! My recommendation would be to try it at least until you ring the first Bell of Awakening. It's a few hours into the game, and you'll know by then if it'll be something you want to persevere with or pack in. |
