| There's something about Biebs latest stuff, it's pretty good, but you can't really admit that because it comes with him attached to it |

| I can't really get behind any of you, apart from maybe the Crump, as I generally like all music. I like some music more than others, but I always prefer having something to nothing. I love Christmas at work because there's a little bit of something to listen to other than the obnoxious british public. |

| It's spring! And that means only one thing! Time for the flowers around town to bloom and once again bless us with the delightful scent of freshly removed sweaty underwear!
Seriously, they actually smell like that. I have no idea who picked them five years ago when the council planted the things but either the person had a cold that day or didn't bother to check the smell, because they absolutely reek. |

Lol that reminds me of a tree in Canterbury that smelt of semen. Pretty sure I wasn't the only one that checked themselves after walking past it - it's next to a university after all. |

| Holy s***, just woke up after the entire town had a blackout that started around 2 in the afternoon and ended at around half past nine in the evening. The entire town, absolutely everything, went offline. Even the mobile networks weren't working! Trafic lights had to be substituted, and the nursing home had to use the back-up generator. From where I was sitting last evening we were effectively back in the stone ages (it was kind of fun honestly), busted out the laptop as a makeshift torch and the old DS lite as a book light!
Well, turns out it wasn't just the town. It was the entire state. Yep, the entire state of South Australia lost its power yesterday afternoon after a severe weather system moved through. Actually my town is lucky, being on the border of another state and technically being a "city" we seem to have had our own maintenance team that got our power back on pretty quickly, a sizeable portion of the state is still offline and looking to take a few days before it gets completely back online. Crazy stuff!
Oh, there's more rough weather on the way too, so there could be another outage before the day is out! So I'm going to enjoy having the internet back while I can, time to stream some anime! And as soon as the shops open I'm grabbing some torches and batteries! |

| Ooooh, bloody hell! Work gets thrown into chaos when the power's down for twenty minutes and the computers all restart when we switch to the backup generators. |

| Powercuts are a nightmare. No wi-fi, no/limited gaming, can't cook - but worst of all for me, the thought of food in the fridge and freezer rapidly warming up/defrosting and becoming unsalvageable.
Good luck Athers, get that anime in and crank up the generators!

| Fortunately I didn't have much in the way of obligations yesterday, the only interruption was helping the mother out with some stuff that required electronics. I was worried about the freezers contents, although the power probably kicked back in in time to prevent any damage to the chicken breast slices since I didn't open it during the blackout. I hope. Fun times to wake up and find the state is making headlines in the national news. Got dang just got a load of what took out the power. Mother nature is a truly terrifying force! - image:
An electric transmission tower if you couldn't tell, and given how crushed that thing is I wouldn't blame anyone for not immediately recognising it! Three of them flattened like they were paper! Sure am glad I wasn't in that part of the state! |

| I can't believe you're blaming everything on a giant metal giraffe!
But srs, sorry to hear about the potential devastation - I hope the weather doesn't cause you and yours too much grief. |

| Fortunately my corner of the state was spared the rough weather and just had to deal with the blackout, the worst part was having to throw out a bunch of food. Compared to some areas of the state though that's a small price to pay so I'm chill about it. The worst part of it all was the next morning when the prime minister had a conference. According to the rabid anti-renewable energy group the entire blackout was caused by renewable energy. - details:
The fact he didn't even bother to fact check the details, including the little detail that the transmission towers blown down were the same ones that would have linked the old coal power plant to the state grid (so basically we could still be getting 100 percent of our power from coal and still would've had a state-wide blackout) was just astounding.
Was there any mention of the hardship many people in the state went through? The danger of the wild weather than hit parts of it and decimated some small towns? No, none whatsoever. The entire issue was boiled down to nothing more than "renewable energy is teh devil!!1!" by our prime minister. Over a million people were left without power and contact with the outside world and that is what our oh so glorious leader had to say about it. A pile of factually incorrect nonsense about how renewable energy will destroy the national power grid.
Safe to say my faith in the political system is dead and buried. Malcolm Turnbull has sold out to the rabid right wing conservatives in the party, the fact a man who was once an advocate for green energy spouted such insincere bull was flat out offensive. No comments about the safety of the state citizens, no sign of any concern, no, nothing more than a very bad callous attempt to score a "gotcha" against Labour and renewable energy. Say what you will about Tony Abbott and his regressive right wing conservatism, but he had one thing going for him. He had actual beliefs and he stuck by them to the very end, and continues to stick by them. He was terrible for the country, but I can grudgingly respect that about him, if nothing else. |

| Almost burned my unit down yesterday. Close call doesn't even begin to describe it. I would crow about lady luck being my trusty partner but I'm still too busy remembering how close the naked flame got to the kitchen curtain while I was throwing the on-fire thing in the sink and dousing it in water. |

| So we've got two cats. The younger one, Gus, is very greedy: he gets frantic when he sees he's about to be fed and will try to steal Beatrice's food (which she lets him do instead of duffing him up). So I feed Gus first and lock him in the kitchen. Beatrice gets her food in the dining room separately so she can eat in peace. This morning I did just that and left Gus in the kitchen whilst I played some Paper Mario: Color Splash. Then I heard a sound. Thinking "Ah, Jo must have come downstairs", I went into the dining room... and little Gus, who is not even five months old yet, has worked out how to open the kitchen door. Nothing is safe - nothing. |
