| I hope so! Mind, overall defensively my team is pretty weak. I think Phillips has the most, and that is his weakest stat. Im currently in Saffron climbing the Silph Co. building. ZeroJones the Electabuzz has proven to be an instant success with powerful moves like thunderpunch and light screen. Also, what am I going to do against the Psychic gym? I have no Bug attacks and only bite on Shanks for a dark attack. Balladuo also doesn't have a good enough attack stat to make use of any ghost moves.
Challenges are ahead, but for now its time to end this Rocket madness! |

| Time for another screenshot fest! Enjoy, friends! - Spoiler:
We kick off today's Nuzlocke session with a rival battle I completely forgot about! I called him Locke, to tie in with the challenge. I actually almost lost Jay the Wartortle in this battle, but Sporkhead the Rattata stepped up to the plate and felled 3 of Locke's monsters. Time for Nugget Bridge! Seems Team Rocket have been learning from a certain Don Corleone. We met a new friend on Route 24, Darunia the Oddish! It couldn't have come sooner as well - I was dreading the Misty battle without a Grass-type. Straight away on Route 25, I captured another Oddish! Named this one Masofdas, but it's unlikely he'll see any use, lest some tragedy befall Daru- -ni...a. Dammit, NO. Once again, I capture a Pokemon for it to die only battles later. Darunia was slain by a critical Hyper Fang, which is just all kinds of pain. Another 'mon for The Void. Not all doom and gloom though, Phillips evolved into a Pidgeotto! We saved Bill from his Pokeprison (I swear, he has the oddest way of speaking "I'm not joshing you, pal. Gee, help a guy out, buddy!") and got a ticket for some boat. During our pre-Misty training session, Sporkhead evolved! The team, pre-Misty. The fight went flawlessly! Masofdas utilised both Sleep Powder and Absorb to great effect, and Misty was defeated! Next time - Vermillion and the S.S. Anne!

| Electabuzzero! Like the sound of that! In progress: my challenge against Wattson. The only weapon I had against his awesome Magneton was a Loudred that I'd taught Rock Smash (sporkhead2). Nearly all my team got involved in beating Magneton: Mightyena (Andyman949), with his Intimidate and Sand-Attack; Shiftry (Balladeer), with his Flash and Fake Out; Gloom (Stu Great2), with his Stun Spore; Grovyle (ZeroJones), with his Pursuit, Pound, Absorb and Quick Attack; and the aforementioned sporkhead 2, with his Rock Smash. The only one who sat out that particular conflict was brave Kadabra (Vidofnir), who'd put up a Reflect and scarpered quick sharp. All of the team are paralysed. All of them have taken damage, mostly into the orange section of their health bars. And there's another monster left up Wattson's sleeve. :affraid: Stay tuned - there may be more Pokémon in That Box before the end of the night! |

| The inevitable happened - white-out! Looking back, I'm angry with myself about how badly I played the fight - none of my monsters were holding any items, for example. I wish everyone else playing the GNamer Nuzlocke Challenge good luck, and know that I will be cheering you on from the sidelines! |

| Is this competition still open for entry? If so I would like to try my hand at a Platinum Nuzlocke run. I've actually been contemplating one before, and turning it in to a competition is often great fun. |

| Lorelei wasnt much of a challenge, Sherbet and Apple Whip did most of the damage with Candy Apple taking out the Jynx. Bruno was a little tougher though, Airhead took out both Onix with ease and Toffee took out Hitmonlee but took a large ammount of dammage at the same time, I decided not to switch though because I was certain he could easily beat the Hitmonchan with one Fly right? What I wasnt aware of though was that Hitmonchan had Sky Uppercut which hit's Pokemon using fly. Airhead was switched back in to finish off Hitmonchan and Machamp with Confusion. Next up was Agatha, she was fairly easy to beat with Snorlax using Shadowball on the ghosts and sherbet using dig and thunderbolt against Golbat and Arbok And finally we have Lance. Sherbet took out the Gyarados in 1 hit but I forgot that Dragonair wasnt part water type so I didnt switch and it hit Sherbet with a critical hit ending her short but important role as a member of my team. The rest of the dragons fell with a few Blizards and a surf for Aerodactyl and I was ready to finally be crowned the champion... until Lance informed me that someone got here before me: My rival he was always one step ahead of me despite me constantly beating him every single time. It's time to end this once and for all

| To Athrun, yeah just start your platinum up and ill add you to the table!
Its been a while since I commentated on my exploits in fire red, I routed team rocket from the Silph co building, beating Gary again in the process. Giovanni threatening that all was not over, however at least Saffron is free now!
I entered the Psychic gym, however Sabrina was a scary person so I left in pursuit of an easier foe. I decided that with my party I would have a better chance of beating Blaine, both Jaymoyles and Shanks have attacks that im sure will prove to much for Blaine's fire-starters.
I began my surfing journey down towards cinnabar, beating many water trainers along the way with Zerojones and his thunder punch attack. After being confounded by Seafoam islands for a while I eventually came across Articuno! While I was a little worried about battling the majestic ice bird, Phillips made short work of it with a critical flamethrower attack!
Eventually I made it to Cinnabar, and on to new challenges! |

| Vidofnir: Thanks for accepting me in the challenge. A question about the rules, am I allowed to buy Pokeballs, and Great Balls and so on? The last Nuzlocke run I competed in a year or so back had a rule regarding those, that you could buy ten Pokeballs a town and that was it. I just want to check before I start buying things.
Well, time for my first part of the journey before I boot the DS back up and resume.
The adventure starts with a TV broadcast talking about the Professor a town over from mine. Suddenly, my long time choldhood friend known as Yzak barghes in to the room, comments about my PC, and then leaves talking as if I don't exist as per usual. I head over to his place to see what's up, and as per usual get run in to by Yzak, who proclaims that we are off to get some Pokemon.
So, we meet up outside our very small town, in front of some grass. Wild Pokemon are present in said grass, but not to worry, Yzak has come up with a daring plan! We shall run across the grass, thus avoiding any Pokemon! Already I think this is a very stupid plan, and I would raise it with Yzak but as usual he would just ignore it. So, as he is about to charge in someone yells at him to stop. we turn round and meet the very person we were off to see, Professor Rowan.
At first sight Rowan is an intimidating man to behold, and his way of speaking is equally intimidating. He proceeds to grill Yzak over his stupid plan, and then asks us if we both truly love Pokemon. The response is naturally a resounding yes, to which Rowan asks us the question a second time. At this point I begin to wonder if the Professor is a little dim given our previous answer, but as excited as I am to be about to get a Pokemon I keep my mouth shut. A this point a young girl about our age rushes up, called Dawn by the Professor, she then lays down a briefcase containing three Pokeballs. I am then tasked with picking one. I check the contents and am immediately drawn to the Piplup as if I am no longer in control of my actions.
And with that my rival dashes over to choose his. The Professor and Dawn then leave, and my friend who is now a rival challenges me to out first ever Pokemon battle. He then shows off he chose the Pokemon Turtwig, which I note could pose a problem down the road being a Grass type. Or, as it turned out, it could pose a problem right now. Showing he does actually have a bran Yzak has Turtwig use Withdraw six times in a row, reducing the damage my Piplup was doing it down to almost nothing. Thankfully I still prevailed and we both go home.
Shortly after that I head back over to his place, where Yzak proclaims that now we have Pokemon we shall go and catch the Legendary Pokemon rumored to be at the lake. And with that we head on over. As we approach the shore we see a blue haired man standing there. He is tall, imposing, and looks like trouble waiting to happen. He says a few odd remarks about time, space, and how the Pokemon of the Lake shall be his, before leaving. I have the sudden gut feeling that I will meet this strange man again some fine day.
And so, after this odd meeting, me and my rival end up heading off to see Professor Rowan. I get there as my rival is leaving, hasty as usually. I am then invited in, where the Professor examines my Piplup and finds it likes being my Pokemon. I am then offered to nickname it, which I do. From this point on Piplup shall be known as Torrent. The Professor then asks me to complete something called a Pokedex. I personally feel unimpressed, but accept due to the gifted Pokemon. With that I depart.
Dawn then buttonholes me outside the Lab, and insists on showing me around the town. After that she heads off to the next route, and I head to the Pokemon Center to heal my Piplup. From there I head off to the route Dawn headed, and end up meeting her there. She insists on being kind and showing me how to catch Pokemon, which I really didn't need, before gifting me with five Pokeballs and heading off.
It is here I encounter my first potential partner, a Bidoof much to my dismay. I had heard of a Pokemon called Shink being around, and had been hoping to catch one. But oh well. I proceed to catch the Bidoof like I had been shown, and nickname the new partner Wastofspac (waste of space) to demonstrate my lack of happiness at this encounter.
And so ends the first part of the tale. A TLDR version of events is in order. I start the game, get a Piplup as my last trainer card number is 9, and run in to a Bidoof on the first route I can catch a Pokemon. I also went back to the lake to try my luck there, but fate tossed me another Bidoof, which my own Bidoof KO'd. From there I went back to the route and encountered not one, not two, but three Shinx's in a row, I suspect the game was trolling me there. And I ended my session after just arriving at the next town. |

| You can buy what you want, except repels. Also no use of the Masterball! While my attempt at this challenge is on the back-burner for now, I am currently at Cinnibar in Pokemon mansion. I haven't caught a pokemon in a while and squandered the opportunity to land a Koffing. While it was several levels lower than my team, Koffing and Weezing have one of the best physical defenses in the game, so in hindsight I would of done well to obtain it. As a sidenote, Weezing can learn several powerful attacks including Flamethrower and Thunderbolt. I however foolishly decided to revive Omanyte (Sporkhead), who is only level 15 . Thus taking up my allotted pokemon for Cinnibar. Time to update the tables! |

I've just been writing it up as I go so that I don't forget anything, which leads to copious amounts of extraneous information and a rapid degeneration of quality, so it's not really dedication and it's probably not a good idea either. |

| Well, an update on my run. Since the last post I've gone past the second gym and am now in Hearthome City. Given my last post was, to put it bluntly, crap I'll just do the sound bites from now on. Anyway, rough summery of what happened, I won the first badge easily due to Piplup and Bubblebeam. Along the way I caught a Shinx which I called Buster, a Zubat I called Hunter and another Zubat I called Hunter II (this ended up being incredibly ironic and fortunate).
Then on the way to the next town Hunter sadly departed from this mortal realm during a battle with a wild Budew. Thankfully I stuck Hunter II in the party and moved on. Also, before I continue, can I just say that Zubat is rubbish until level 17, where it finally learns a half decent attack in the form of Wing Attack. Until then it is almost unusable and its best move is Leech Life which is 20 Base Power. It's a miracle I raised it as far as I did, but I needed a flying type for Gardinia.
Anyway, turfed Team Galatic out of the Windmill, caught a Pachirisu there, went on to the next route where I caught a Shellos, Eterna Forest I actually evaded any wild battles. Then I hit the grass outside the city to raise Zubat, who is now a level 22 Golbat, for the gym. Beat the second gym with Golbat, then went to fight Team galatic.
At this point my team was a level 24 Prinplup, a level 25 Luxio, a level 7 Bidoof, a level 11 Pachirisu, a level 24 Golbat, and a level 13 Geodude. And alas, this was where I lost my first genuine member. Buster, the Luxio got haxed to death by Jupiter's hacked Skuntank (yes, Skuntank is cheating. It doesn't even evolve until level 34 and doesn't learn Nightslash as Stunky until level 31). A crit killed Luxio where it stood, and Torrent the Prinplup had to finish the job.
And so now I am at Hearthome City. Just picked up a free Eevee, which I have called Buster II in preperation for when I turn it in to Jolteon.
So, status update. 2 Badges, 2 deaths, and a bunch of Pokemon. Thankfully I now have the VS Seeker, so this should make training easier. |

| Your original post wasn't bad in the slightest Athun. I particularly like the differences in the way you all go about writing this up! So ill go for a different angle today.
Nuzlocke update - Part ??
Who's to Blaine!?
Exhausted after the tumultuous efforts and trials of the pokemon mansion and its button statues of doom. I finally make it out with the key to Blaine's gym, looking at my party before entering, I feel a surge of confidence. Jaymoyles has magnitude and dig, two ground moves which I feel can tip the battle in my favour, his magnificent speed stat stands tall above the other members in my party, a valuable lead pokemon to be sure! Shanks, with the notoriously powerful water move, Surf backs up my plan to make this upcoming battle a veritable washout, his massive HP stat belying his small stature, he can take many a fire attack. I am confident.
I enter the gym, calmly winning each battle with ease, JayMoyles magnitude attack shaking the very foundations of the gym as I ignore the trivial trivia that Blaine lines up before me! From the pokemon I have seen thus far, I deduce that Blaine will have Rapidash and Arcanine as his main pokemon, powerful to be sure, yet not enough to overturn the might of type effectiveness.
I make it to Blaine and the battle ensues. JayMoyles quickly laying waste to the opening Growlithe, taking damage in the process. A Ponyta is his second weapon of choice as I use my knowledge of each pokemons stats to weigh the potential risk of Ponyta and its attacks. I finally decide that Dig will be enough for a one hit KO. How wrong I was. Ponyta charring Jay with a mighty fireblast attack! I look on in disbelief, my first fatality since the horrendous match with Misty. My overconfidence cost me another party member...
I send out Shanks to even the score, going on to washout both Rapidash and Arcanine with the overwhelming power of surf. Earning my 6th badge, yet at great cost.
Before I can even bury poor Jaymoyles in the cyber depths of Bills PC. The the devil himself shows up and asks me if I want to hang out with him, oblivious to the charred remains of a Dugtrio in my arms. I concede defeat in this matter and opt to be his boon companion on his little escapade.
Reaching One island I quickly trot up to the nearest PC however find out that their services are unavailable! In disbelief I cry out in frustration, summoning up nurse joy from her daydreaming. I hear from her that there is a volcano nearby, a fitting burial ground for such a valuable companion as Jay.
After listening to Bill and his friends spiel about Two island I instead decide to head North and on-wards to Mt Ember.
After a long hard journey, battling many trainers native to this picturesque island I reach the volcano however I am loathe to find the phoenix, Moltres standing in my way! Sending out Shanks, I quickly dispatch the legendary pokemon. Leaving what is left of Jay behind I continue on my challenge, deciding to enjoy the sights of two island while remembering never to treat a gym leader as lightly again.

| Link to Part II
Part III, or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bird
To put it simply, Esmerelda crushes him. The Geodude doesn't seem to have any Rock-type moves, and the Sandshrew has no advantage at all, so my ludicrously-overlevelled Pidgeotto has no problems.
I go to the Pokémon Centre to heal the 12 HP Esmerelda lost in that battle, and then steel myself for Brock. I'm still unsure about this. I know that he'll have an Onix, and I'm expecting some super-effective hits.
I make my slow way up to Brock, hoping for the best and yet fearing the worst.
I speak to him. He's cocky. Too cocky. In this world, the cocky are sure to fail. One particular fucker with a Squirtle who passed through here recently, for example. But what he achieved through convenient types, I shall win through hard work and awesomeness. The battle begins.
First up is another Geodude. That goes the way of the earlier one, and we begin round two relatively unscathed.
And here comes Onix.
Immediately, I tell Esmerelda to use Sand-Attack, and am met with a barrage of rocks. It's super-effective, but it only deals ten HP of damage. It's not that bad, but it's dangerous. For the next few turns I fire off some more Sand-Attacks and heal. Not once does a single Rock Tomb miss, but most of the other moves it uses do, so I use Quick Attack after Quick Attack after Quick Attack, and eventually it goes down.
BOOM, BROCK! WHERE ARE YOUR ROCKS NOW?
I needn't have worried at all. Esmerelda's just that damn good. Brock gives me the tokens of my achievement, including the very move that could have caused my demise. I'm one step closer to Gary now - one step closer to revenge. Theodore shall be avenged, O Rival Most Wicked, and you had better fucking believe it.
I'm also one badge shinier. Did I mention that I fucking love badges?
I carry on eastwards, and pass by a girl who, in her narcissism, insists that I was staring at her. I fear for Frederick's safety against Pidgey, so I switch to Esmerelda, who defeats them easily. My personal stalker throws his bugs at me, and I throw mine at him. Frederick wins easily.
Next up, of course, is everyone's favourite shorts-clad Youngster. Frederick is of a level to be capable of beating his Pokémon, but the Rattata lands a critical, leaving him low enough on HP that another could prove fatal. I switch to Esmerelda, who takes care of the two foes in a turn each. Frederick and Esmerelda form a tag-team to defeat the next Lass, and Esmerelda learns Wing Attack. The next opponent is another Bug Catcher, and, as with the last one, Frederick does all the work.
I carry on and defeat all of the other trainers on the route, mostly with Frederick. With that out of the way, I want to go scouting for another friend. I switch to George and head towards the grass, and soon a level 7 Mankey arrives. George's Ember takes off a bit more than half of its HP, leaving me in an awkward position - I can't really attack any more, but the foe may still be too strong for me to capture it...
I decide that all I can really do is throw a ball and hope for the best. Thankfully, the capture is successful, and the newly-encapsulated Juliet joins me. She's less useful now than she would have been before Brock, of course, but I don't particularly mind.
A man in the Pokémon Centre offers me a Magikarp. I'm actually seriously tempted to take it, as I like the idea of having a Gyarados very, very much, but when I get an Old Rod I'll probably be able to get a Magikarp anywhere, so I pass for now.
I enter Mt. Moon. What terrors await me here?
...A Zubat, seemingly. To be precise, a level 7, male Zubat. Not displeased, I set out wearing him down with George the Charmander, my designated wearer-down-of-wildlings for now. All goes smoothly, and Sven the Zubat joins the team. I am pleased now by my decision not to take the Magikarp - my team is becoming dangerously weak to the Electric type - more so if I let George achieve his potential. I'll see if Route 4 can grant me a different comrade, and I'll attempt to find a Magikarp later in Cerulean Gym.
I fail to realise that the girl by the signpost is a trainer, but I had put Esmerelda at the front of my team and so her adorable little Clefairy doesn't even get a turn.
I find a TM that I can't yet use and a cure for paralysis, and a bug catcher tells me that there are suspicious men in the cave, and asks "what about you?"
Yes, I am also in the cave. Very perceptive of you.
I wander around the floor, eventually meeting a man who is not just a nerd, but a Super Nerd. I am disappointed by his lack of evident powers, but terrified by his lack of Pokémon that aren't Electric. This is exactly the sort of situation I wasn't prepared for...
Esmerelda throws a Wing Attack, but it doesn't take off even half of the foe Magnemite's HP. I switch to George, who delivers a decisive Ember, and then back to Esmerelda, who takes down the Voltorb in two turns with comparative ease. I have a feeling I'm going to need to raise some minions who aren't partially Flying-type.
I leave the cave, swatting away a horde of Zubat and one or two Geodude as I go. Somewhere along the way, my original plans get lost, and I start grinding Sven instead. Although his attacks aren't up to much at the moment, he quickly proves himself a competent combatant, and before I know it he's second only to Esmerelda in level. The grinding session is mostly uneventful, but he does fall in love with a few Jigglypuff, most of whom he quickly om-noms to death.
So, by the end, I figure that I may as well just carry on through Mt. Moon and work on Juliet afterwards. Assuming that I don't come across too many Magnemite, I should be okay.
It's time to get through this cave.
NEXT TIME: Beating up fish. And criminals. Those too.
Current team: Esmerelda, Female, Level 29 Pidgeotto, Designated Ass-Kicker and Grinding Assistant Sven, Male, Level 22 Golbat, Designated Confuser and Omnomnomator Frederick, Male, Level 17 Beedrill, Designated Poisoner George, Male, Level 11 Charmander, Designated Pokémon Wearer-Down for Capture Juliet, Female, Level 9 Mankey, Group Musician
Requiescat Theodore (Rattata) in Pace

It feels like I'm taking a lot, and I don't want to mess up your navigation of the thread. But I am having a lot of fun basically doing a screenshot LP for this. - Spoiler:
At the start of today's adventure, our hero wakes up after throwing a kicking party. The amount of shots he did was unreal! Just kidding, Team Rocket shenanigans of course. We quickly seen to the troublemaker and picked up a TM for our troubles. New party member! It's Xenos, my second Pidgey. However, instead of just boxing Xenos, I have a cunning plan. Considering I caught Xenos conveniently by the Daycare Centre, I figured should anything go awry with Phillips, god forbid, then I've got a back-up pre-levelled flying type ready to go. If I'd lost a Pokemon in the Underground Tunnel, I could have made a quip here about losing a Pokemon. But I didn't. So... yeah. The next wild Pokemon I ran into I brutally iced. Controversial, but if I don't satiate Andy the Beedrill's bloodlust, then who knows what might happen? Just before Vermillion City, Masofdas the Oddish evolved! Our team's really rounding out now. Haha! Screw you shady Magikarp salesman! Now I can get all the fish I want for FREE! Well, one per route. In addition to the Old Rod, I also nabbed the Vs Seeker from the Pokemon Centre, which should come in handy for grinding later. I don't know if it's just me, but when I originally played through Red and Blue, I really thought something would be here later in the game. Can anyone tell me if there's something here during the Kanto trip in Gold and Silver? Hey, a Pokemon Fan Club! Alright! I'm a Pokemon fan, after all and I rea- Umm... Uhh... We did get a bike for our, um, visit, so that's a thing. I really can't go back to the Red and Blue bike after the Mach Bike. It feels so slow in comparison. Alright, now we're talking! Introducing Jaster the Drowzee! Glad to finally have a Psychic-type on my team. And shortly after, in Diglett's Cave, we find a Diglett, Dusty! I decided in order to have a more well-rounded team, I'd box Andy the Beedrill for the time being. That's not to say he won't come in useful again. A certain Psychic-type gym leader might come to fear our ferocious Beedrill. I had a fright in Diglett's Cave. On my way through to see what was on the other side, I had Jay the Wartortle leading, getting some easy experience from the Digletts. Suddenly, I was in an encounter with a Level 28 Dugtrio. I couldn't escape because of its Arena Trap ability, which also meant I couldn't switch out. I nearly lost Jay a good three to four times in that battle, with his health falling as low as 3HP! Luckily, thanks to gratuitous potion use and a lot of Water Guns, I prevailed. I couldn't believe how close I came to losing my very first Pokemon. I'd have been heartbroken if I had lost him, especially to a wild Pokemon. That's not an issue though, so I dusted myself off, and moved on. However, I very nearly lost my ENTIRE TEAM against a Magneton that a trainer was packing on the route east of Vermillion. For some stupid reason, I thought Dusty couldn't hit it with his ground-type moves. I think I thought that it had Levitate for its ability, or something along those lines. Every single member of my team was down to around 10-20 HP because of that one Magneton. Without a Fighting-type, or without me not realising I could use Diglett and easily win, Steel-types are bloody difficult to take down. But with a whole combined team effort, we toppled the Magneton. It was damn close to several losses though. Here's my team after some training, at the end of this update. Next time: for real this time, S.S. Anne and Surge!

| I like the pictures Jay. I think magnemite and magneton can have magnet pull and static as their abilities, a dig or magnitude would destroy him. I was also weary of the ultimate dugtrio's you can find in diglett cave, thankfully I didn't run in to any!
Ill be waiting for the next update. |
