Lighten up, mate. Waited 18 years for another Shenmue. The whole premise is that it will feel like a game from 2002, I don't expect anybody believes it will be a great 2019 game. It's not supposed to be.

Think spending $160 on Shenmue III, I can voice my concerns about the game.

I've always thought Shenmue III was being targeted towards the folks that played the originals back in the day and heard a take that suggested this is pretty much what we would have got if it came out back in the Xbox/PS2 era, albeit with an extra lick of paint. It's absolutely not for me, but guys like Huber from Easy Allies and formerly of GameTrailers show that the fact that it exists is a great thing.

Sure but look at Bloodstained that was clearly targeted at Castlevania fans and turned out great.

Then on the end of the spectrum you've got Duke Nukem Forever which took almost as long as Shenmue III to come out, and it was crap and played like it should have come out in 1999.

Bloodstained was always going to be pretty good as SOTN still holds up as a masterpiece even 20 years on. Again, I've not played Shenmue, but haven't they always had a hokey air about them? I reckon most knew that Shenmue III was never going to be a 90+ Metacritic darling.

When the first one came out it was the most polished & detailed game world I had ever played but it's not like it stayed that way for very long, in fact I think games that released on other formats a year or two later blew it out the water in that regard.

I don't buy that for a second, sure folk will want it to have all the quirky stuff that makes it a Shenmue game through and through but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a game that's been created over the last few years to have a certain type of polish. But with that said if you have a certain attachment to the series you can probably let some stuff slide.

GTA III was the next big one after Shenmue, which always gets the laudits over it.

Jas you said it better than me, why I brought up Bloodstained and Duke Nukem.

I almost feel bad now. If Mr. Weeks sets up an account I will apologise wholeheartedly and buy all his books.

I picked up a Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10" with a case but the book cover shutting doesn't work on the new 2019 versions which is a tad daft. Picked up some games on Xbox store which I didn't really need but I think I'll end up with £60 (More if you go with the RRP, not sale price) worth of games due to voucher for £43.

Mainly to play Assassins Creed Rogue remastered for some reason always fancied playing this one and the other big one being Castlevania Collection, which gives me like 13 games in the series to play on Xbox One.

I really need to sit down and go through them one by one like Jay did or was doing with Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy.

That would probably go a lot quicker and not involve anywhere near as much fatigue as playing through many, many JRPGs.

And iPad & a keyboard!

Heh that's nothing. Back when I bought the last seasons of Burn Notice, well, you can probably guess what puns got made there.

Yeah, it's a good read so far (those were the last three of a five-book series, had the first two on the shelf for a while). Good worldbuilding and characters (I'm a sucker for charismatic morally ambiguous protagonists and Gavin is the perfect balance between likeability and moral ambiguity), and some pretty good twists too. Got all the things you want in your epic fantasy and, so far (two-third through the second book) balances everything just right.

It's what the doctor ordered after I finished Hobb's Realm of the Elderlings whereupon the finale essentially tore my heart from my chest, showed it to me, then crushed it (you know an author did something right though when you're left with an actual sense of mourning for a character).

Excellent! Glad he's battled past his inherent disadvantages to write some good books. (I'll stop being mean now.)

The first Trails of Cold Steel game. Figured after the "game of the decade" thread's discussion and the sale of half-price on psn it was time to get started. The time's right for another long jrpg anyway, I'm in the right mood. The moons have finally aligned.

Not me, but my girlfriend bought our first Pokemon Plushie: Sobble. I enjoy trying to make it stand up, before it slowly but surely falls over, looking comically unimpressed throughout.

This one is me though: Spirit Island & the Branch & Claw expansion. I'm super into board games now, and this is a very complex but super good cooperative anti-colonial game in which each player assumes the role of an island spirit and tries to repel the invading colonial powers.
