Yes Jay
Balla is there an easier way to see what games have been done as I feel I need to find you always first. Also, tomorrow, I guess we're not being dicks and using likes of Witcher III?

Bonsai Barber and You, Me & The Cubes on WiiWare don't even have any songs uploaded onto YouTube, I might need to do The Witcher III if I carry on like this

Where's your contribution to the thread Jas? I want to see you picking a MonHun game for every day. Especially tomorrow.
JayMoyles wrote:
I apologise for what's about to happen. I'm going to catch up AND comment on all your picks. Spoiler boxed by to avoid killing the thread, natch.
MOYLESSSSSSSSS
Keeping up with the Moyleses:
Day 1: ...can't believe you had the brass nerve to complain about MIDI for this one.
Day 2: This is more like it! I've never played a Castlevania (LoSMoF doesn't count), which feels like a massive error - nowhere more so than in the soundtracks. Great stuff.
Day 3: Ah I love this. When did I do a full about-turn and become a massive chiptune fan? Also there's a bit in there that reminds me of the Gunman Clive soundtrack, which is always a good thing.
Day 4: And speaking of cowboys... it's not grabbing me but this is nice whimsical stuff. Could've picked it for today!
Day 5: Starts off with pure JRPG bombast, then desolation, then the build... the first forty-five seconds alone are a marvellous musical journey. It's not quite so fun when you're running from the beasties though.
Day 6:
When your two choices for Relaxing Day are from a fighting game. Smash Bros. Brawl had the best version of The Roost to my mind, but it also had this:
I hated the original, as I did with most of DP's soundtrack - it's the soundfont I think. This, though? A mixture of chill relaxation and triumphant swells. It's lovely, and completely unsuited to a fighting title. I care not a whit.
Day 6 listenings:
Unlike everyone else, I can kind of see why Mas chose this piece... presuming he turned off after the first minute. That first minute is pretty chilled though!
GJones' piece sounds half-relaxing half-ominous, which I guess fits the game to a tee. Like two later picks I imagine this has as much to do with the musical context as the tune itself, which is fair enough!
I HEAR A FURIOUS ANDY APPROACHING... oh wait he doesn't know gaming music exists. This is lovely. I especially like the bit when the synth vocal sounds fade in and out. The tin whistle's a bit much.
Agreed with Jay, Blue Resort's more jaunty than relaxing. Maybe another context pick.
Speaking of, I can't believe we burned through two Dark Soulses so soon. Moyles' pick actually sounds like the soundtrack they put on when I went to a spa, so it gets my vote. Buska's definitely feels more like there's something ominous behind it, and never quite resolves. It's really nice, but I get tension from it rather than relaxation.

Not really? I could put it in the OP, but I typed the OP so it's there anyway in my sig. As for Witcher III for an indie game, nobody's going to define what that does and doesn't mean, but I'd imagine you might want to err on the side of caution given that you picked what is pretty much universally agreed to be the least relaxing piece this time!

My tune is from a game which has a relax mode, what's yours from fighting a sandbag???
I will likely go rather indie but if someone went with a game from a independent studio without funding from a big publisher, that would be okay in my book.

Be fair, it's the music that needs to be relaxing not the game! Else I think most of us would be stuffed with our choices. (Dark Souls and Resi 4 not, as far as I'm aware, known for being chilled-out experiences.) I did like your tune though.
Speaking of stuffing people by the way, I definitely would have opted for
had we not already all been stuffed by Jim.

Once again I am truly sorry.
A bit
Relaxy tune though:
The Onn theme from AER: Memories of Old.
Beginning bit: walking around some ruins. Drummy bit: now you're a bird flying round them instead.
I'm not really planning ahead with my choices, and haven't "absorbed" the other categories. I'm a dangerous rebel like that!

Side note: I realise posting my previous choices might put other people off picking them themselves so if people would prefer I left them out in future I can, the two I've got here in particular I think are really good and don't deserve to be ignored on account of me sharing them, spoiler box or not.
Catch up chat:
The Mass Effect tune sounds way too chilled for what I'd imagine it to be, same for both the Dark Souls entries, these are genuine gaps in my gaming knowledge I need to fill though. Lovely stuff with Banjo-Tooie but you can't really go wrong with ol' Kirky. The Tetris one sounds like it belongs on Rocket League, I think that's a compliment.
The Stardew Valley song is lovely, I should totally play that game as I know it'd be right up my street and this makes it sound even more chill. Really like the Bomberman music, I have very vague memories of playing that game and I think I can picture it even more after hearing this, Cappa once again bringing the nostalgia.
I like the choice within a choice for the Brawl version of the Roost although it sounded different enough that it didn't automatically click as to what it was, definitely would have preferred the SM64 choice though, damn these rules. The Aer song takes a while to get going but very chill.
Couple of thoughts on Jay's chocies, never played what many say is the best Wrestling game ever but I know that tune from the Wrestletalk podcast and I'm so glad to that it originated from gaming, just gives me more justification for enjoying it. Really like the Metal Gear one, very retro but still has that MGS vibe to it.
Great minds really do think alike as Resi 4 was my initial thought of what to pick, that changed to Resi 0 as that has quite a pleasant sounding save room by the series standards, in the end however I've gone with...
I first played the SteamWorld Dig games last year and enjoyed them so much I very nearly put the second one in my Top 10 Switch games list, I ultimately decided against it as they're a bit old to class as Switch games but some quality music in them. Really liked how El Machimo was a nice respite from the underground and the music just adds to that.
My original pick would have been better on Day 5 given the announcement:
I might as well crack on with Day 7 seeing as the date rolled over as I was writing this.
This upbeat number makes the game sound very child friendly and cheesy levels of happy, it's actually quite silly with its story as the game progresses but this gives you a good idea of what they were trying to make it appear with its cutesy Cartoon Network like aesthetic.
I previously chose...:
Everyone's favourite indie, such a great moment in the game and the music captures it perfectly.

Day 7: Music from an indie game
I mean, it became so huge that it feels weird calling it an indie game, but I love this track from Undertale. It has a great soundtrack so there are a bunch of songs I could have chosen (see Megalovania, Death by Glamour, Heartache...) but Spider Dance I think is my overall favourite, especially after it kicks off about 30 seconds in. It's even better in situ ("the spiders clap along to the music").

RPG music. Boss battle music. Sad music. Hummable music. Final boss music.
And you picked it for indie?

Catch Up On Day 6 Chat:
That Tetris Effect tune could have easily come from any FIFA game from the last five years. That’s not to say it wasn’t good – it was! - it was just not what I was expecting. It’s a game I’d like to get into, but I feel I’m missing out on so much of it as I’ve only got the disc, and none of the VR gear.
The Resident Evil 4 song gjones uploaded and the Stardew Valley theme that Rum Rapture uploaded is a bit more like it.
When I saw Balladeer’s Brawl pick and what he typed, I thought he should have chose The Roost…but that Pokemon tune was excellent, I’d completely forgotten about it, and that’s the type of content I’m here for. Great stuff.
I’d never heard of AER: Memories of Old. That theme sounds nice for an Amstrad CPC game.
I associate that Steamworld Dig 2 tune with the pain in the arse that was navigating the shitey, ages-long mine that I’d created from the start. Steamworld Dig 2 is such a Switch game though – I think that’s where it first came out!
Day 7: Music From An Indie Game
Is this indie enough? It’s the theme from the second world of levels in Mighty Milky Way, a DSiWare exclusive about a green-skinned, French-speaking alien who bops about planets like it a 2D Super Mario Galaxy.
That game’s soundtrack is by Jake Kaufman, who composed the music for many of WayForward’s most memorable games, such as DuckTales Remastered, Mighty Switch Force and, of course, Shantae. I think their games can be a bit up and down, but WayForward’s music is consistently excellent. Mighty Milky Way is yet more proof of that, and a desperately underappreciated game in it’s own right.

The thing is in relax mode it's not really a game as it's just the music with the background, which is there for you to chill out to, that's why it came to mind.
It is great in VR, Cappa as it does add to the game but even without I'd say it's the best Tetris and can't wait to replay on Xbox this year.
Thinking about it Res Evil 4 is a good shout for in game relax, you've beaten a boss and now got to a save point which you can relax I've done that. On to indie, I've gone for If Found... which is maybe in my Top 5 this year and hopefully it counts even with Annapurna publishing

Day 6:
That Aer pick is another spa-soundtrack-like piece. Then it becomes actual game music while still remaining gloriously chill. It's gorgeous and I love it.
Sadly SWD2's soundtrack, like for Cappa, is linked to bad memories of the actual game. Never seen what people see in the series. Oh well... Forest of Hope is golden, and another Highly Inappropriate Smash Track.
Day 7:
I didn't expect something with quite that level of epic from the picture shown - and yet, it's also fun and bloopy enough to fit the look of the game pretty well. Belter! Oh, and - don't worry about us not picking your pieces, Smurf. If nobody else does I'll definitely use Celeste for something. (Somebody'll beat me to it, natch. ) One of the best indie soundtracks to my mind...
...along with Undertale. Still livid. It's a great track, although IMHO the game has better - like, er, any of your other picks.
Mighty Milky Way World 2 is a cute tune. Not much more to say on that one. If Found... is a cute tune. Not much more to say on that one. Pony Island Escape is not a cute tune! I was all ready to slap the 'context pick' label on it... then the main melody kicks in. I could jam to this! Still sad I've never played PI.
Ah, A Hat in Time. An excellent game that feels like it's gone rather unplayed around these parts. That's a shame: it's got great gameplay, fun writing, and the traditional belting indie soundtrack. My normal pick is the third boss tune (minus its first forty-five seconds or so), which feels a bit Undertale itself; but recently I've been getting into this top track from the DLC, which takes place in... well, a cat-yakuza-controlled underground network. I think the level itself is a bit convoluted for its own good, but it's got an excellent tune that speaks to the weeb inside me. YOOOetc.

I do count as 4 people though as I'm so old. I see there's a "Year you were born" category. Cripes!
I really do love the music in a Hat in Time - pretty much every level is memorable music-wise. Even the crappy spooky one.
I think we can all agree that If Found is an indie game! And one of these days I will get round to playing Pony Island, after the man Summerhayes' recommendations.
My indie game theme could have been swapped with my relax-y theme from yesterday.
The Underwater Lab tune from Knytt Underground. This is playing far too loud in my headphones right now. I'm worrying I should've saved this for another day. It doesn't quite make me sad, although some sad family things happened when I played it. I don't get tired of it, but I'm hoping I think of something else by then.

Me too! I remember recommending it to you when it was announced for Switch, as I played through it on PS4.
I also think A Hat in Time has better tunes than the one you chose, and I'm not just saying that because you slagged off my Undertale choice. You're so mean, Balla.

So it did. This changes things, I absolutely adored it so this has only good memories for me.
Quite liked the Undertale music once it got going but definitely surprised Megalovania wasn't chosen. The Might Milky Way music absolutely slaps, sounded very 2D Sonic. Mas, I'm sorry, I know you love visual novels but that wasn't to my liking at all, saying that it probably would have worked as relaxing choice.
Am I right in thinking Pony Island gets a bit weird? Either way liked that once it got going. A Hat in Time was cool, I'm guessing that the theme of that DLC is ninja inspired in which case the music goes perfectly. I remember not getting along with Knytt Underground but it had atmosphere in spades which this music proves.
