Hello again folks. I'm doing this week's scores a little earlier than usual because some of the games we'll be using for October come out early in the month.
Let's have a look at how each game fared in September:
Life is Strange: True Colours impressed critics with a score of 81. This is lower than most games in the series, and many rightly predicted this game would struggle a little relative to its predecessors. Nobody got this spot on, but Balla was only 1 point adrift.
Deathloop wowed with one of the highest averages of the year, clocking in at 88. A lot of people were unsure how to rank this, which makes a lot of sense given that it was hard to tell what the game even was right up until release. But Mas was dead on the money, and Andy, Muss, and Smurf were only 1 point off the money.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits had many reviewers gushing at its graphics, and most were happy enough with the gameplay too since this one weighs in at an 82. Most of us predicted high 70's to mid-80's for this one, but it's Mas and Muss who were dead on the money here.
Warioware: Get it Together! gave most a jolly fun time, coming home with a 77. A lot of us thought this was around the score it would get, with Andy and Rum going closest just 1 adrift.
Congratulations to Mas who managed 2 perfect picks and was only a few amiss with the other 2 selections. Andy and I kept it close at the top. Smurf, gjones, Rum and Cappa were only 5 to 7 points away from Mas so this was a really tight month at the top. Elsewhere, one or both of Kena and Deathloop gave Balla, Jimbob, and Jas some trouble. Warioware was Buska's biggest wild miss this month, not quite the 100 he predicted
Mas has a September to remember, moving from third to a share of first. Treesmurf remains at the top of the table while Cappa slips to third. Rum holds onto his 4th place while gjones and Muss both rise one place at the expense of Balla. Crumpy is let down by one clanger, but has otherwise had two super good scores of 8.
And some other stats for anyone interested
Spoiler:
Monthly winners: July - Treesmurf (4) August - The Cappucinno Kid (15) September - Masofdas (6)
Perfect Predictions
1. Masofdas (3) 2. Treesmurf (2) =3. The Cappuccino Kid (1) =3 Muss (1)
Anyway, that was then, what about now? The games for October are:
Metroid Dread (releases October 8th). A lot of hype around these parts for this game, lets hope it's good!
Back 4 Blood (releases October 12th). This co-op zombie shooty banger and Left 4 Dead successor could be a hit.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy (releases October 26th). Honestly, wanted to put Nickelodeon Brawl here but not sure it'll get enough reviews. This game definitely will get the reviews and it might be even harder to predict. Could be shite, could be alright.
Mario Party: Superstars (releases October 29th). You know it.

I was starting to roll my eyes by the third video. Then the fourth had me rolling in the aisles. Muss I'm still expecting conversions of those into scores. Use the lengths of the videos or something.
Anyway sod it. Numbers time. (I reckon NickBrawl will get enough reviews, but that may just be because Nintendo Life seems to publish every other article about it.)
Scores, no dancing:
Metroid Dread: This looks like a banger. 90
Back 4 Blood: Oh great, another 'Balla has no clue' multiplat release. Argh. 82? People haven't got tired of Left 4 Dead yet have they?
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: I think this'll be okay, based solely on the people on Back Page seeming to like it well enough. 80
Mario Party Superstars: Will get higher than most games in the series because nostalgia reasons. 75

Buska, are you alright mate? Blink twice if you need help.
Exceptional videos aside, I'll join in this month after missing out on the first few! Let's see how I do:
My guesses:
Metroid Dread: 91. The original reviewed highly and I can't see the Switch version not surpassing it. Banger incoming.
Back 4 Blood: 82. I think it'll review alright, but it won't be amazingly well received by some.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: 85. Think this has been previewing better than most expected, so I think it'll surprise some with its score.
Mario Party Superstars: 76. Online play at launch should push it ahead of Super Mario Party, but not using new boards/minigames may end up pushing it back down, so let's stick to exactly what SMP got.

@buska That also made me think that you would honestly kill it as a streamer with all the wacky shit you do.
My scores:
Metroid Dread 90 - I honestly want this to be an all timer (as in mid to high 90's) but it might not take enough risks in a genre that you actually see a fair bit of these days.
Back 4 Blood 82 - A solid co-op effort that probably won't have enough staying power compared to other online games.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy 75 - Outside of the Spider-man games these don't usually score well.
Mario Party: Superstars 74 - These are usually the low effort games from Nintendo, not terrible but don't do enough to shake it up from previous entries

thanks guys. I don't know why, but I was able to find the motivation to smash that out last night after the idea popped into my head. Where is that energy when it comes to studying Japanese?

You have a weird definition of "interpret" mate. Muss will watch them, pick up the vibes I'm laying down and convert that into a number which he can use to tally up scores. And if he can't, I've proven once and for all that numerical scores are bollocks and should be ditched.

Cheers mate. Yeah, I should try my hand at streaming. I was thinking of having a go when Diamond and Pearl comes out, as I may be able to pull a few LLP listeners in.

I can assure everyone that my machine learning algorithms, which definitely aren't discriminatory in any way, will fairly and objectively translate Buska's submissions into scores.
Anyway here's my guess
four scores and seven years ago:
Metroid Dread 87 - This'll be good but I don't think enough critics will give it the big numbers
Back 4 Blood - 83 - I think this will do pretty well, the developer has pedigree, but as fun as this shooter probably is to play I reckon it will get critiqued for being too tried and tested. It'll see lots of 7's but enough high 8's from to keep it in the 80's.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy 77 - I just can't get over how weird everyone looks. It's a Marvel game though. It probably won't do amazingly but it'll do enough to be widely considered good.
Mario Party: Superstars - 76 - Another for the fun without wowing category

I'm all for giving Buska the points here and now but in the spirit of the competition...
It's spooky season, spooky because I'm getting all of these spot on:
Metroid Dread - 91% Did someone say best game of the year? Probably because it seems everyone else has done their scores before and are likely as hyped as me. Anyway this looks the tits.
Back 4 Blood 2K21 4EVA - 81% The spiritual predecessors scored well and look good fun but impressions from the beta seem to be it hasn't moved on much from them so I'm expected it to be a high decent.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy - 79% I think this could be really good, combat looks solid and they seem to have got the right spirit of the source material, said combat is also apparently a little in depth which I think will cause a few reviewers to score it lower than they it'll deserve.
Mario Party Superstars - 77% This will be good, it's Mario Party with minigames that are already proven but enough time has passed for them to probably feel fresh(ish).

Well, on the plus side, it's nice to be pleasantly wrong about Deathloop - I don't know if I'm going to get it myself but I'm pleased it's a banger.
Scorey Feldman:
Metroid Dread - 86 - great game, run down by a few reviewers because it's not Prime 4, even though it's clearly going to be better Back 4 Blood - 75 - Yeah mate, people love Left 4 Dead, that's why they're still playing it GOTG - 60 - All the best Guardians: Chris Prott, Zoe Sandano, Derek Batistuta... Mario Farty Superstars - 70

Now the points you won earlier, they're safe:
Metroid Dread 88 - "Super, smashing, great."
Back 4 Blood - 80 - "Nothing in this game for two in the bled"
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy 62 - "Let's look at what you could have played"
Mario Party: Superstars - 78 - "You've got the time it takes for the board to revolve..."

It's that time once again where I jot up last month's scores.
Metroid Dread impressed critics with an aggregate score of 87. It didn't quite hit the 90's many of us predicted, but Crumpy and Muss got this bang to rights, with Jimbob and Cappa just the one point adrift.
Back 4 Blood was seen as pretty good but not great, weighing in at 76. Most of us had this in the low 80's, but Jimbob was once again only a point away.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy actually did pretty well, bringing home an 82. A few of us swung low on this one with a few folk predicting 60's. Of those who were close, Balladeer went nearest at 2 points from the target.
Mario Party: Superstars Must've done something right because it finds itself on an 80. Interestingly the highest prediction for this was a 79 from Mas and a 78 from gjones. Everyone else had this coming in at the low-mid 70's.
Of course, one man pushed the boundaries of objectivist critique to limits nobody has ever dared venture before. The World Excite Truck Champion and Master of Cheese, Mr. Luke Summerhayes, harnessed the medium of interpretive dance with astonishing accuracy. Mr Summerhayes, forwent the traditional pillars of critique: damage, control, style, and aggression, in favour of a method that he dubbed: "reviews just based on, like, the vibes I get." Mr Summerhayes' ever-so-slightly off-tempo interpretation of Metroid Dread was an out and out 87: the dance everybody wanted, delivered ever so slightly out of time. His robo-testosterone riddled, "Back 4 Blood", a surprisingly nuanced takedown of old genre tropes that no longer mesh harmoniously within the hegemonic consciousness of the contemporary zeitgeist, an undoubted 76. "You don't have to believe in yourself, because I believe in you;" is both a Guardians of the Galaxy quote and the obvious takeaway from Luke's third dance, an eminently positive riff on a game so many doubted, 82. And perhaps Luke's magnum opus, the take on Mario Party: Superstars, unarguably an 80% (It's only the last 20% of the dance that gets lairy, clever that innit?).
For the rest of us mortals, here's how the month played out:
I say, I say. Lot's of really good scores this month. Everybody had at least one guess that was within a whisker of perfection. Andy separated himself from the pack with a pair of perfect guesses and some otherwise very low scores. gjones and Jimbob unfortunately swung low on Guardians which scuppered some otherwise very strong predictions. Had that game gone the other way, we'd probably be looking at the table in reverse. Oh, and it goes without saying that Buskalilly was a tier above the rest of us this month.
And as for the overall leaderboard/most perfect guesses tables:
Overall Leaders:
=1: Treesmurf (11.25) = =1: Masofdas (11.25) ^1 3. The Cappucinno Kid (14.00) ˅2 4. Rum (15.25) = 5. Muss (15.75) ^2 6. Crumpy Andy (16.75) ^2 7. JayMoyles (17.00) NR 8. Balladeer (17.50) ˅3 9. gjones (18.50) ˅3 10. The Jaster (22.67) = 11. Jimbob (26.50) ˅3 12. Buskalilly (122.50) =
Smurf remains atop this table, but is now tied with Mas after Cappa fell a couple of spots to third. Word on discord is, Smurf and Mas are exchanging lottery numbers. Elsewhere, Rum stands firm in 4th place although there is a bit of a gap between the top two and the rest of us now. Andy and Muss picked up a couple of places at the expense of Balla and gjones. New boy Jay Moyles debuts right in the heart of the table. Jas holds steady just inside the top 10, while Jimbob loses a bit of ground. Oh, and despite his S rank month, Buska is still a million miles away
Monthly Winners July - Treesmurf (4) August - The Cappucinno Kid (15) September - Masofdas (6) October - Crumpy Andy (10) Buskalilly (perfection)
Perfect Predictions
1. Masofdas (3) =2. Treesmurf (2) =2. Muss (2) =2. Crumpy Andy (2) 5. The Capuccino Kid (1)
And what of the games for November? To be honest, I wasn't really sure but hopefully the four below will do. I wanted to include Death's Door but it's already been released on other consoles, and I think I'd prefer to leave off collections, which obviously ruled out GTA.
Jurassic World Evolution 2 (Out November 9th) - The toilets are getting dirty, you should check that your cleaner's haven't been eaten ~ Lewis Macleod if he reprised his Theme Park World role in this game. (I know most people here don't play these types of games, the previous game in this series was meant to be pretty good but not world class. I expect this would be about the same).
Forza Horizon 5 (Out November 9th) - Whizz Whizz, neow neow, vrooooooooommmmmmm. ~ The Cars from Cars but they can only make Car noises.
Shin Megami Tensei V (out November 12th) - "JRPG Shite" ~ The Cappucino Kid
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl (Out November 19th) - Bidoof ~ a Bidoof

Forza Horizon 5 will get a 89, some think this will be highest game of the year but I feel reviewers will go it's just more Forza
SMTV will have a 92, so will be amazing but sell two copies
Pokemon umm 81 because Pokemon

Forza Horizon 5: 88
“How's life, Mr. Peterson? Oh, I look at it every once in a while when I'm in the john. I didn't mean the magazine. Neither did l”.
Shin Megami Tensai V: 85
“JRPG Shite”
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl: 78

From experience I'd say that Metroid score was much fairer than what I predicted, my GOTG score I did purposely lower because I thought reviewers would go lower but really it deserved better so if I went with my heart I'd probably have been closer (or much further the other way).
I predict a riot:
Jurassic World Evolution 2 - 76% I'm not sure enough time will have passed to make this feel that fresh which will probably counter whatever improvements they've made over the first game.
Forza Horizon 5 - 91% Everyone loves Forza and it's coming gamepass day one and everyone loves gamepass. This has had so much hype I wouldn't be surprised if it scores higher than the last one but I've gone a little lower just because they seem to be churning them out so much that it must be leaving some people a little fatigued. FYI I'm incredibly jealous of Xbox owners with this one.
Shin Megami Tensei V - 89% I'm actually quite tempted by this myself even though I know I'd be in way over my head with it. Should do well anyway, anyone that reviews this will already have an invested interest so as long as it's not broken it'll do well.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl - 78% Too much water mountain. They look like they've done a good job with recreating this but if anything it's a bit too close to the originals which were a little flawed back then. It's Pokémon though so should do ok at least.

S'core, blimey:
Jurrasic World - 81. Seems about the mark for what will undoubtedly be good at what it does if you're into that sort of thing.
Forza 5 - 87 - I've never actually played a Forza game, but since we have gamepass I guess I'll give this a bash. People love this series right?
Shin Megami Tensai V 86 - This will do well I'm sure, although I know nothing about this tbh.
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - 78 - I think this will get love because it's Pokemon, but I really do think this generation was a relative stinker. No Fire poks, completely unmemorable gym leaders, and boring villains. There was the odd really great pokemon in this generation though.

Shin Megami Tensei V (out November 12th) - 75 jrpg shite indeed.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl (Out November 19th) - 88 folk still like the pokey mans.
