| It was Sam & Max: Beyond Time And Space, which was pretty broken. The speech timing was appalling, so I finished it with a guide as quickly as possible and traded it in. For the curious, the vote list ran as follows: 1) World Of Goo 2) Tetris Party 3) Sam & Max Season One 4) Tales Of Monkey Island 5) Back To The Future: The Game (because I forgot I owned Boom Blox) |

| In an alternate universe, Zero Jones got his votes in on time and changed the vote. We enjoyed a completely different list of results before all going off to work at the alien-ran spaceship factories. |

| You saved Zack and Wiki, anyway. Also, Tetris Party might have ranked. You could have made Andyman so happy... |

Wait a minute... by not voting, did I save the world?! No, no, you just created another alternate universe. We're fine - bizarro world us however... toiling in alien-run hell. |

| Don't worry - by the time it gets to adventure week, I can guarantee that there will be No More Heroes. (gets coat)
Thanks to the three non-me people who have voted so far, by the way! |

| Two days to go, six votes in (including me). I'm hoping this is because everyone's getting their rhythm games out this weekend to give them a comparison. Please? (Yes I'm aware of how pathetic this sounds.) |

| Thank you kindly, gents! Excitingly, we currently have two ties in the ranking. If somebody wants to vote now (for some Hero series games, say), it could make all the difference... |

| All right, you impatient bastards! Week 8 end, etc. 10 votes. I refuse to believe that only 10 voters have played BtB or a Wii Guitar Hero/Rock Band game. That aside, here we go: Fifth place:- Spoiler:
Guitar Hero: MetallicaPoints: 7 First places: 0 You say: "Although the guitar normally scares me, this was pretty fun if I played at the appropriate level." "This may only be for fans of Metallica but its just great trying out Kirk Hammett's crazy solo's & nearly breaking you fingers in the process. " I say: I give my opinion of the Guitar Hero series further down. As for Metallica, I prefer rock to pop, but have no special love for the band. This actually got the same number of points as the fourth rank, but lacked the first place that would have made the tie... Fourth place:- Spoiler:
Just Dance 2Points: 7 First places: 1 You say: "A couple of years ago I went to a party where this was played. It was a blast - so much so that I bought it, having never thought that I would go for that style of game." "It was on at several parties I went to a few years back and *cough*Ihadfunwithit*cough*" I say: Let's sweat, everyone! Like most people here, I never would have bought this myself, and I wasn't lucky enough to come across it at a party, so I've missed it. For the sake of my eyes, I think it may stay that way. Good to know that there was some fun behind its interminable stay at the top of the charts, though. Third place:- Spoiler:
Wii MusicPoints: 11 First places: 1 You say: "Beautifully crafted, intelligently designed and as accessible as gaming gets. A bit aimless, but I consider it a Wii essential." "playing guitar to Mute City" I say: Get Castle on the 'phone/in the thread! With Red Steel having come third in Week 3, and now this, he is somewhat vindicated. Never played it, because... I don't know, really. Might have a shot at nupkin's copy. Second place:- Spoiler:
Guitar Hero III: Legends of RockPoints: 18 First places: 2 You say: "This was my first ever Guitar Hero title, and what a game it is. The Wii remote slotting into the guitar itself was pretty genius, as the Wiimote's accelerometer was far better IMO than the older GH guitars. The soundtrack to this game shaped my music taste I reckon. From School's Out by Alice Cooper, Knights of Cydonia by Muse, pretty sure the Killers make an appearance, Ruby by the Kaiser Chiefs, One by Metallica... I could wax lyrical (unintentional pun, honest) about the music in this for hours, which considering this is a music game shows they did something very very right. It was my first foray into online Guitar Hero as well, and I still recall getting my arse handed to me by numerous NGamer Forumites. A cracker of a game, and my personal favourite in the GH franchise." "Has to be commended for it’s originality at the time, as well as it’s brilliant track list and ambition. Excellent." "...it made me love that guitar attatchment." I say: And we arrive at my two votes for this week! I only ever played this at... I won't say "friends'". "Acquaintances'", maybe. As such, I never got very good at it, with my crowning achievement being scraping past Cliffs of Dover on Medium; but I enjoyed it enough to give it a third place vote. The peripheral is great fun for those of us who don't play guitar, and the gameplay is simple enough and success or failure easy to determine. A franchise I enjoy, then, albeit not enough to buy. I'm waiting for Classical Hero before I shell out! Our Wiikly Winner:- Spoiler:
Beat the Beat: Rhythm ParadisePoints: 32 First places: 5 You say: - "Really, what else could come first? You can shove your Guitar Hero: this is what a music game should be. It's the perfect fusion of simplicity, difficultly and charm, but on top of it all is what every music game should get right first: the soundtrack. An unforgettable cast of characters chucked into a day-glo world of nonsense, the tunes in this game demand and deserve to be remembered and mastered.
Just beware of the earworms! For months after beating the game, seeing a clockface brought Monkey Clock to mind, an office chair reminded me of Board Meeting, and ascending a flight of stairs was accompanied by the tune from Flock Step. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the effect of a stellar music game."
- "If the purpose of videogames is to entertain, then there’s no question that this is up there with Wii’s very best."
- "A late wii release takes my top spot because of how crazy & fun it is, Tweet, twe-twe-tweet, tweet, squawk!"
- "Because... I'll try to describe how this game is awesome without resorting to quoting soundbite from the game. The thing about WUBADUBADUBISTHATTRUE? It's Up To YouIt's Up To You AND TEN FLIPPER ROLLS - Bum bum bum TAP TAP TAP One egg hand full of peasOO KEE OOKEEOOKEE Double-up!
Ah. Sorry. ... Oh, bonus fun fact: Love Rap: my dad thought "Into You" and "For Sure" were "Interview" and "Boat Show"." I say: Monkeys (in shades) power Big Ben's clock. A samurai duels shadow beasts in pursuit of a soft toy. A mandrill's hair grows to a ridiculous extent. And those things in Donk-Donk... do whatever it is they do. While not a flawless package (see the dishonourable mentions; also Love (c)Rap, and that widget one), any flaws quickly pale into insignificance when put up against the madcap fun of the rest of the game. It's impossible to sum it up in one picture, to be honest. My first place, several other people's, and the uncontested winner of this week. If you don't enjoy this, you don't enjoy fun. Ook-ee uki uki! Honourable Mentions: - Spoiler:
AC/DC Live: Rock Band (Track Pack), Band Hero, The Beatles: Rock Band, Bit.trip Beat, Bit.trip Runner, DJ Hero, DJ Hero 2, Guitar Hero World Tour, Lego Rock Band, Samba de Amigo, Tomena Sammer Dishonourable Mentions: - Spoiler:
- Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise: "For me the margins between defeat and victory were so narrow - and not explained in the slightest - that I got very frustrated."
- Bit.trip Runner: "for sneaking in here you stealthy platformer you." (Some people are never satisfied!)
- Guitar Hero III: "Unfortunately I didn't like most of the songs so I spent a lot of time playing with the sound off."
- Major Minor's Majestic March: ""SHAKE ME PROPERLY!". None of the style of Parappa The Rapper, and all so very shallow, uninvolving and boring. I wanted to like it; a real letdown."
- Wii Music: "This says it all." (Epilepsy warning!)
- Spoiler:
And there you have it! This week, it's the mysterious Strategy/Other category. It encompasses the definitely strategy LKS and Battalion Wars; the "lifestyle simulation" AC:LGttC; the visual novel-style Trauma Centre series; Bonsai Barber, natch; and I'm inclined to chuck the original Endless Ocean in here too, given the lack of peril that I consider necessary for an adventure game. In fact, you could probably make a case for a good selection of games that haven't been mentioned yet, so long as they're not obviously adventure! Discuss, and get those votes in. Oh, and Stu's going to give a little speech about the virtues of a particular game that got mentioned this week but maybe shouldn't have.
